Hello,I am new here.I am from Croatia. Last few month I spent searching for  some help or advice. I got extracted all my teeth,22 of them because I have had paradentosis. It was painful and horrible experience. I got my dentures, but I just can't stand them. I have a huuuuuuugeeeee gag reflex and I just don't know how to handle it. I can't eat, speak and so on. So I was searching for some help and advice and come across here. I'm thinking to cut palate. I think I don't anything to lose.

I had the same problem & still do occasionally, especially at the end of the day. Due to the gums shrinking. I use dental powder which helps. Really it's a matter of getting used to them. My dentist suggested that if there was no improvement, he could score a small piece off at the back. Its this area that causes you to gag. You do get used to them so hang in there.

I had the same problem with my new permanent. Palate went too far back. I went back to my dentist after a day. He cut it down. Problem solved .

I’ve heard of the smallest amounts making the biggest difference here.

Same here, palate was too far back in the mouth so he trimmed it down and now it's perfect.

Thank you,I' ll do that. I'll call my dentist for an appointment, and ask her to trim the palate. I'm not giving up,I am aware that I can't live rest of my life walking around with no teeth. I can't get implants because of severe bone loss,so I have to wear my dentures however i know and can. :)

Kako si Renata! My best friend is Hrvatski/Serb and my bosses wife is Croatian. I can speak several words due to my best friend teaching me years ago and going to Croatian parties and picnics with her. :) Please call your Dentist to have some of the palate trimmed to stop the gagging. If you trim it yourself and trim too much you may lose suction. Unfortunately you will lose suction as your gums are receding for the next 6 months but you want as much suction as you can get for the healing process.

NO ONE should even leave a dental office when their denture goes so far back that they're GAGGING-more of dentists not knowing what to do or what they're doing-they rely on the lab to make it right-get it done until you're satisfied-not just from gagging but how it looks.  never give up....

Just because you have bone loss does not mean  you can not  get implants

Yes,you are right. But it will be very expensive and long treatment. I need bone upgrade. I know,I talked with my dentist, she sad that this isn't going to work for me. And dentures are the only solution for me. To be honest,I can't imagine to have implants. procedure is to scary for me. I don't know how I survived all this extractions :O

Hoping you can help me. We are conducting a paid survey looking for denture users to test out a new oral care product. It's a type of product that they already use, just a new and hopefully improved product. It's not for sale, we are just looking for people's opinions about it. Participants will get paid $50 to test the 2 new products for 1 week each and do a 15-20 minute online survey to give their opinions about each product at the end of each of the 2 weeks. Please let me know if you can put the word out to the entire forum, or at least, please tell your friends who might fit the project. Thanks!

I just wanted to be sure you knew all your options concerning implants and you do know some of them
Implants are not really  a painful procedure  It is  much less painful then the extractions you had and the recovery is much quicker and not painful.  You should do more research on  the internet about implants.  also of course there is no gag reflex, and no glue involved

Hi everyone :)
I have an appointment at the end of a month. So, I'll ask my dentist to trim a little bit of palate, and will see what's going to happen with my gag problem. And she said that she need to adjust all my dentures, because they are to big now. I noticed that dentures are to big. So I'll let you know how it works. And ,good news, yesterday I ate with them. It was weird, and painful but I manage to ate a few potatoes. So,I figure it out, that when I have some kind of food in my mouth,I don't have a gag problem....
