-Swish your mouth with warm water or a mouthwash. Warm water will help loosen the seal.
-To remove the bottom denture, slowly and steadily pull the denture up in a rocking motion.
-It is usually more difficult to remove the upper denture as there is more surface area touching your gums and the roof of your mouth.
-Place your thumb against the back of your front teeth. Press upwards and outwards toward your nose.
-To avoid injury, do not use your fingernails or any object other than your fingers to pry the denture loose.
-If you still cannot get your dentures out you could:
- rinse your mouth again with warm water;
- try puffing out your cheeks; or
- bite into a firm fruit or vegetable, like an apple.
If sleeping in your dentures overnight will not cause breathing difficulties, you could keep them in overnight and try again in the morning after a cup of coffee or tea.
