I have a huge problem. I had all my teeth extracted and immediately had dentures put in. They were so big and could not stay in my mouth. It's been over 2 months now and they put in a soft liner. I can put the top in but can not close my mouth. Same with the bottom. No way do they fit in my mouth at the same time. Also have a huge gap on the roof of my mouth when the top is in. My mouth looks square with them in, top or bottom. Dentist tells me my lips will form around them and I can relearn to speak. Even go to speech therapy if need be. Omg. I am so upset. Idk what to do. I don't understand why he can't get them to fit my mouth.

I'm going to a different dentist for a second thought. I won't go back to the sane dentist that did this. They should of all ready fit my mouth and me be able to close my mouth.

Sounds like the thing to do.  Immediates never fit very well, but that sounds very out of the ordinary?
Some Dentists don't care once you move on to Dentures as you are now "a pain" to them rather than a cash cow.  Sad but true.  IMHO

I am struggling bc my dentist who I used to work for has made me immediates but I look horrible. I'm not swollen in my face but I look like I have rabbit teeth. Or horse teeth. They push my upper lip out and I'm
Trying to understand why? Why do I look so horrible when I feel like other people don't. I'm young and this process has been horrible and people just keep saying things that upset me further like this is a humbling experience as if they even can relate. Someone please tell me should I look so weird? Shouldn't my temps fit my face? He says he wants to make me perms In a month? Is he just trying to get rid of me?

I'm no expert in this field but I had the same problem and my answer to you would be go get a second oppioun. The temporary denture should fit your mouth and you should be able to close your mouth. I was given huge horse male teeth. I went for a second oppioun and was told they were wrong. I got a complete refund and gave them there horse teeth back and got a new pair that fit perfect the first day. My before and after picture is on this post somewhere.

That’s all well and good and glad your temps look so well but I am dealing with temps that make me look like a beaver. Can’t hardly talk let alone eat with them. They also protrude my mouth out and doesn’t close all the way. I don’t think they should be this way even for temps. Would like some feed back on this idea. Thanks

Hi Kathy, don't know when u posted this, my temps were hugh in size because I had a lot of swelling (due to an infection), but he put comfort grip (white soft material) on them so they didn't hurt my gums, in other words they were wide, BUT the teeth were perfect in the front, but after about 6 mths were too big to wear my mouth was exhausted in a half hour.  Finally, after a yr. 4 dentists, $8,000 I got them right.  But only because last night (got them a week ago was back there 4 times already with problems).   Now remember I broke one bottom (had to pay another $1,600 from another dentist, rip off in price and denture) the teeth were facing my cheek.  She told me that's how my natural teeth must have been, have u ever heard anything so crazy?  Now a wk ago went to Affordable Dentures (last place around where I live I've been to 8 different offices walked out of 3, one wanted $6,000, one wanted $3,000, and u don't know if they are gonna be wearable either.  So just at the dentist yesterday morn, thought great.  Was wearing them at home for about 3 hrs. and my mouth was exhausted again. This is ridiculous.  So I got out an old pair that felt great but the teeth were terrible.   Believe it or not (just put out another $1,400, said I can't touch these or loose them, lost one bottoms out having soup the ring hurt so much I took them off, put them in the case at the bottom of my pocket book, got home, NO TEETH.   I hope I'm going in the right sequence.  Last ngt I took out the pair that felt good, put the new teeth on top of them and saw one side  of my new ones was too short, so the teeth on the top were not locking in, and so I had nothing to steady them.  Against every grain in my body, I warmed the new ones ever so gently ever hr, up half the nght, I would warm them and try to stretch out the side a little more, all nght long.  Over a yr of this, 4 times back in one wk, said I have to do this, THEY NEVER WILL.  This morn. much better, but not quite right.  Warmed them again, stretched gently, put them in all the sore spot I had were gone, the one side that seemed flipped up on bottom now went around the gum, one ring was too tight before and the second just not doing anything, now they both felt the same.  I have them on 5 hrs now and they feel great, first time in over a yr. thousands of dollars, I like the teeth and the fit, a little sore but I think that will go, I had completely given up hope and no more money for new ones.   What I did all nght they never would have done, I be going back and back and still have problems.  Don't know what's wrong with them. But I say if you don't like the appearance of your temps, do not get the perms from that dentist.  My temps were made while I was asleep and were the best, would have stuck with that dentist but he threw me out cause I called my ins. co. on him (they only gave $800 medicare special needs_) and I gave $5,000.  He said, no one calls on him, I lost most of that money, filed a claim, did everything u can, could not get the money back because he was paid up front for the perms that he never did.   His reviews are fantastic especially on face B.  people rave, but it was down hill after him.  So having said all this do not want u to go thru what I did, RED FLAG if temps are not good, I know people who still wear the temps never went back for originals, they basically are the same thing a dr. told me, temps are just made larger for swelling, I guess the people I know who kept them didn't have much swelling, I did, and the teeth looked beautiful.  Finally got both, but not because of the dentist because I spent all nght on them or these never would have been wearable.  Don't understand, my mother went once, never had to go back a 2nd time for anything and other people have to go thru hell.   Hope I didn't ramble too much, know I was all over the place but I'm still besides myself over this whole experience.  DO NOT trust him with your permanent ones if he can't make good temps, the best of luck to you.

I forget Joan... you have a lot of bone loss and your bottom jaw can't do even the Mini-Dental Implants, correct?   I'm very blessed that I have a good ridge and at 56 years old don't seem to have problems some do.  I think we talked about your problems a few weeks ago of so?

If they forced all posts to the bottom of the page like a normal forum, it would go a long way to making reading a thread easier!

As is, I can jump in mid page and then that becomes the most current point of content insertion.

Not very bright of getsatisfaction's software engineers IMHO.

So you regret the bottom dentures. I have bone loss so can't do mini implants but can't afford implants. I know I need dentures but afraid I'll be worse off than what I am now with bad teeth

I have completely good news. I'm getting a refund for them. It's enough to cover my new set at the new dentist. I can say it was handled completely professional and the manager Deborah gave me no hassle on my refund. Special thanks to Ted, you helped me to calm down and handle this. I'm just beyond happy and excited to actually start this process the correct way now. I will definitely keep you all informed on how my new set is coming along. Thank you all again!!

Well that's GREAT NEWS!  And you are very welcome.
Now we can't wait to see your new smile!
Bonus:  A lot of gum shrinking/receeding happens early on so your new ones should fit great for a while until you're ready for your permanents.
Congratulations!

Hi Ted, can you help.  Had new bottom denture last week.  Terrible fit.  Cant keep them in when eating and they move around my mouth when drinking.  The dentist put the mold in my mouth and popped out of the room.  Not knowing what to do I sat there with my mouth open and he came back in and took it out.  It never touched my teeth,  bottom gums or the top,as I sat with my mouth open, not knowing what to do,  but he wont accept that. have I a comeback on him?

I,m on my 4th set.  $8,000, new dentist said since Ilike the look of my temporaries I can have them religned and wear them as my permanent.  They are too big and heavy, I'm worried that they are so heavy now, once religned will be heavier.  Don't know why he didn't suggest making new ones that look like the temps did.  It's worrying me, no money handed over yet, I am screwed because I lost a partial bottom because they hurt so much and couldn't get an apt., 2nd pair I started working on I got so frustrated.   To anyone reading this DO NOT do anything to your dentures or you will not get your money back.  $8,000 and I have worn the 3 sets maybe 10 times in a yr.  So depressed no words can say.  I am in Fl. 2 of my drs said so many of his patients complain about their dentures, he said, don't get them made in Fl, like I can spend thousands to fly and stay somewhere else till they're made and sore spots etc are fixed.   Worse thing that ever happened to me in my entire life.  Hadn't had my haircut, nails polished, nothing, what's the point if you don't have teeth u can wear.  Now I'm not sure about this dentist either.  Georga, what State did u get your teeth done in?  Beautiful

Me too and the dentist laughed at me and said they are only temporaries.  Mine are forward even more.  Plus wide.  But in the back on one side they are too small and don't go around my jaw.

Georgina - Get some Secure Adhesive on Amazon.com.  Great stuff.  Here's the Recipe Datsun 260Z was talking about from a mutual Denture Friend:

"Crazy Glue" that baby!

Most times I do not use any adhesive at all. However, some occasions call for cementing in the dentures - mainly my lower partial. I accomplish this by using both paste adhesive and powder.

I call this paste and powder combo "crazy glue".

First put in the paste (I use Poligrip). I squeeze a bit in and then kind of smooth it around with my finger. After that I lightly spray with water and then sprinkle on Fixodent or Wernets powder (spread that by sort of shaking the denture lightly - kind of like flouring a cake pan). Then, lightly spray with water again and place in your mouth.

I used this on my lower partial whenever I know I'm going out for a sticky, chewy meal. For me, this holds quite tightly and often I can't get it out when I am ready to go to bed. Usually it comes out in the morning after a cup of hot tea.

March 8, 2015

I thought I would add another little tidbit of information ....

Another combination that works for me is to use Poligrip Strips in my lower and then sprinkle a bit of Fixodent powder over them. It really keeps my lower in place and keeps all the food particles out. I've had that lasting me all day - three meals and a snack - and it is still in snug at the end of the day!

Poligrip strips seem to work well on their own, too, and they are highly portable since they come in little individual packets. The strips help fill in those areas that may be a bit open from shrinkage, at least until the next reline.

REMINDER: Just remember that you do NOT want to use paste adhesives until your extraction sites are healed! Until then stick with just powder or wafers!

Benzodent is another good product to have on hand while adjusting to new Dentures.
It's like Orajel and other Benzocaine "Numbing" products but plays well with Denture and Denture Adhesives.  There's only one store near me that carries it though.

8 days ago had all my teeth pulled - well all the front ones as they had removed the back ones earlier this year. My new dentures were made at that time.  Kinda of a guess since when they made the molds, I still retained the front 16 teeth. Here's my problem.  The top plate fits great but the bottom denture is way too big - my lower lip sticks out like a monkey's. No way can I chew, talk, cough, or close my mouth with the bottom denture in place.  I've read the responses and recommendations on getting use to the lower denture.  Somehow I liken it to trying to wear a shoe that is two sizes too big for your foot - just ain't ever gonna fit right.  Any suggestions on what I say to my dentist.  Will these dentures eventually fit into place. Am I going to look like a monkey or a talking horse forever?  What do I do if the dentist refuses to reduce the size of the lower dentures?  I appreciate any advice you all have for me.

Well... you could learn a lot from what you can read in this post.
The before and after pictures helped me visualize Georgina's issue.
Your first step is to go back to the Dentist and POLITELY assert your feelings on the fit and function.
That didn't work at first for Gerogina.
She took the initiative and got a second opinion from another Dentist which was a great idea.
I would do the same if you don't get anywhere with the first step and take it from there.
Sometimes it helps me to write things out prior to speaking just to make sure I am making a sound and logical argument/complaint.

Ted: and/or DATSON260z, Josie: Are you still around this community, I hope.? :-)
Mentioned to denturist that we have sought to find a local dentist [ only had long distance 2 hrs away surgeon ] with implants expertise to follow / to consult with re: healing, how are implants doing? is soft tissue looking okay/good/or inflamed? how to open the bite? what about TMJ problem? Wow. Such a negative reaction from the denturist. Said: no dentist will see or follow work that they did not do. No, they won't see you. And they cannot touch the dentures they did not make. Pretty much put the 'forbidden' fear into us for sure. Pretty much said we don't need a dentist. Guess we'll have to somehow manage to get someone to drive us the long distance back to see the surgeon (whom the denturist referred us to for the surgery) ---
whose office post-surgery said "Dr won't need to see you again until 6 months, to uncover the implants." Silly us to think it might be wise to find a local dentist?? There is zero communication between the surgeon and the local denturist. Denturist doesn't even know where the implants are in the arches and seems to have no recall re: goal to open the bite.
We are chagrined. Advice welcomed. We are in week 11-12 post-op. Extraction sites are still 'open', 'cratered', tender and sensitive.

Well good news - it wasn't all in my head!  Went back to the dentist this morning and she agreed that the lower denture was too large.  Taking new impressions and guess we're gonna start over on the lower.  Top denture fits perfectly.  I'm without bottom teeth right now but can deal with it.  I go back tomorrow to surgeon and have stitches removed and hopefully sometime next week I can SMILE again.  Now eating is another story - oh well - got plenty of pounds that I can afford to lose.  Will keep you all updated on my progress.  What an adventure.

I had a bone disease passed down from my father...it slowly took each tooth. I feel so sorry for myself right now cause I don't feel the same anymore. I've lost half if not more than half of my taste...this top denture covers the entire roof of my mouth...food is not the same anymore. Food is my life...I've cooked my entire life. Idk if I wanna even be a sous chef anymore.

Hi Georgina,

Maybe you can consider the All-on-Four permanent bridge that leaves your palate uncovered?

This is a huge adjustment for most people.  When did you have your extractions?

Taste buds are in the tongue. Taste isnt affected its just your mi nd processing things that changes temporarily . Its almost texture you have to adjust to. I cook. I havent lost taste. It was 2 or 3 weeks before I figured out how to swallow easily but YES. with the permanent denture it gets better. Its just waiting to get the immediate replaced. It is easy for me now.

georgina - ask your dentist is he can remove part of the pallet of the denture that covers the roof of your mouth - as long as the denture is still secure, i dont see why this cant be done - then your tongue even if it can still feel part of the roof of your mouth - might help you to adjust to it. good luck!

OMG, I have an issue as well. Today is day 5 of full extractions of upper and lower teeth and immediate dentures inserted. I really DO understand that there will be shrinkage, speech issues, pain, etc. However, I was allowed 2 weeks off from work for this procedure. I work in a call ctr, so my voice is my work. I can't pronounce anything correctly, and my denturist says I have to practise. Every day I read aloud to myself, I count from 59 to 100 and back again. I sing, and I will spend awhile to over pronounce all my words. Nothing helps!  I feel like my top dentures are too big. When I try to talk, my tongue sits on the smooth top of my plate. To my tongue, it feels like a HUGE wad of gum flattened to the roof of my mouth. When I try to talk I can't even get my lips to move properly, and my lips look like they're hardly moving when I form words. I think the teeth are too far out, since I can't even place my tongue against the back of them to try to help with speaking. My tongue only feels that smooth top.. I am so freaked out, as if I can't talk when I go back to work, I will not have a job!!! I will put up with pain, and all the rest of the  issues, but dear god, I need to be able to talk!!!! Has anyone else had this issue? Can my current dentures be refitted or somdething? I don't know what to do! Please...any ideas? Also, I spent $3200 for these pieces of crap, and I don't have more money to pay out for a new plate.
