Just got dentures for the first time after having all teeth extraction about nine months ago. It took nine months for my gums to heal up properly to begin fitting for new dentures. This is my first day with them and the pain and discomfort is quite awful. The dentist didn't really prepare me for the amount of pain I would be in, so I thought I would come on a forum like this and see if it's normal. I've done some reading and it seems that it might be normal. The dentures aren't shifting or sliding so that's a good thing, it's just pressure and pain pretty constant as long as I'm wearing them. I've got a tube of Fixodent, but I was wondering if anyone had any better product suggestions. And, if anyone in a similar situation could tell me if they had comparable pain and discomfort and a general time period of how long it lasted...I was told there would probably be sore spots and I have a check up in a week to see if any adjustments need to be made to the dentures, but I tell you what - it's going to be damn difficult to carry on 8 hour work days while in this much pain.
