how long before my facial features return to normal?

Day 7 after 6 top and 7 lower extractions. 4 total surgical 2 top 2 bottum and the rest normal.. Full plates top amd bottom.
My top plate makes me look so strange. They are very noticable. And makes me look VERY different from pre dentures! Will that go away?? They feel so large in my.mouth. its hard to even pucker to kiss my kids goodnight. Possible that my face is still swollen?

Thats me too! Im 5 weeks out and I still look like a dork smilimg. It hurts but also, I always did not smile because my teeth were soooooo bad. I do not know how to smile. I just try to act normal and not look at myself! Lol. I try to wear the bottoms as much as I can tolerate because the gums shrink every week slighly making them fit more comfortable. I think they took out all the sore spots they could without getting them too thin. And the soft liner they put in made it much more tolerable. If that helps. Its just a long process! But worth it!

Jo Lynn, I'm a month (on Friday) since I had all 16 teeth extracted.  I completely understand, it all looks and feels so foreign to me as well.  I remain hopeful, however, that once I get my permanent dentures, that it will finally seem right.  My uppers are weirdly crooked and I hate looking at myself in the mirror.  Give it time and have patience.  It WILL improve.  Hugs to you.  You look beautiful to me!

I had a slight over-bite for years before extractions and dentures. So I realize I had to get used to the new me now that I have a normal bite. I'm still getting used to it.

I had straight teeth and when my teeth got bad I guess being without teeth caused me a small underbite cuz when I went in for my bite block they told me I had a small under bite. But I'm happy and dealing with my situation. Very happy jus having teeth.

I'm two weeks in and now it don't look so bad. At first it looked like I had beaver teeth or horse teeth but with putting the adhesive powder in top it makes a major difference. I think I'm gonna set up an appointment so they can relign or adjust the top denture be cause without any adhesives they come out when I talk. Lol. Not cool.

You do look beautiful!!  I know how you feel though, I felt the same way.  They feel so big in your mouth and look so unlike predenture.  I like Vaglia was mad, but more at me for not researching everything more.. I too told my dentist had I known what to expect I never would have done it.  I am a month now.  I am looking forward the permanent dentures and hoping it will make a positive difference.
You have a great outlook and that is half the battle... you are beautiful..

Actually, it is quite common to have a "full mouth feeling" when you have newer dentures. That feeling will go away shortly. Hang in there!

Thank you. I never ever used to smile now I'm always smiling. Sometimes I think I have my old teeth and don't wanna talk but I remember that they are fixed. It's a process.

Lizzy -- you are looking great. Smiling doesn't come easy to me. Even before my teeth went bad, my teeth were not the best. I had one oversized eye tooth that also was crooked and would stick out when I smiled and my two center top teeth were slanted in so I learned how not to smile. I really should have had braces when I was a kid, but I was the 6th of 8 kids. All of my older brothers and my older sister had very straight teeth, without braces, but my younger brother and sister and I all had very crooked teeth. It must have had to do something with my mothers age when she had us or something, not sure about that. Anyway, my youngest sister, had the worst case of crooked teeth and she was the only one that got braces. I'm happy that she got them, but was disappointed to never have that option myself. Anyway -- I think I look weird when I smile, which is why I haven't posted a picture of me and my new smile! Hopefully, one of these days I will actually get a shot that I am willing to post. My teeth look great though!

I've been trying to get one. I will keep trying. Even my high school senior picture, which is probably the best picture I ever had taken, my teeth were not visible. Lol.

Gina2, like I said even when I smile I sometimes think I have my ugly teeth. When I talk I feel people are looking at my teeth but they're not. I've had bad teeth for over 8 years and I'm barely learning that my teeth are fixed. Growing up I had great straight teeth but due to hanging out with the wrong crowd and getting into drugs my teeth were the least of my problems. Been clean now for 12 years and well my teeth got so bad. I'm very happy that my teeth are fixed. And I bet you look great smiling. It's gonna take some courage but once you smile and post that pic you'll feel great. Don't think of the past. Think of this as the future.

Well said Lizzy!

As I've mentioned before, even though I knew how bad my teeth were getting and ultimately how bad they were, it never dawned on me to cover my mouth when I smiled or talked. When they got close to their worst, my mother-in-law was in the hospital dying and my teeth were the last thing on my mind. Once she passed, we had a very close friend of the family that passed away just a week after and then in the 2 ensuing weeks we each lost a long time personal friend.

I took a selfie the night before me E-day and thought "damn, that's bad", now I love my smile but need to lose a bunch of weight again (thanks to some horrible meds I'm on!)

Side note - it's nice to have some our good people back and showing their faces!

Hi Alicia, I never saw a picture of you before you had the work done on your mouth but I wanted to let you know I did see you on Facebook and you're a very pretty young lady with a nice smile I believe that it's you a person with the same exact name and I hope everything is working out for you with your other health problems, the procedure you had yesterday and your dentures God bless.

Elizabeth, I would love to say thank you, but unless we are friends on Facebook (or your a hacker lol) I don't believe you can see my pics. My Facebook cover picture is my grandson and my God-daughter's little girl, so basically my 2 grand babies.

I need to get my collage together to post!

As far as the treatment, it has helped quite a bit, but it's not a long-term solution. I have these done every couple of months.

But thank you so much for your kind words!

May God bless you as well!

Nice to see smiling pic's of so many pretty ladies. You have either started or are now well into the process and those further into this journey can help those just beginning their #DentureAdventure with words of true wisdom.

It is natural for you mouth to feel and look slightly different as your mouth goes through this time of transition. Your gums will be swollen after the extraction of your teeth, and you may need to have your “bite” modified to even out the pressure during this time of transition. Regular visits to your dentist or prosthodontist are important to examine any irregular area during and after healing. Don't hesitate to return to the dentist who made your dentures for adjustment. You might have already scheduled a follow-up appointment. Be sure to share all of your concerns at that time. It will all be worth it!
