I have new upper and lower dentures. They do not meet in the back. Is this normal?

I find it very unusual that my dentures touch in the front but not in the back.  Just can't get used to it.  Is this normal?

This is for Angie-- my dentist insisted that my dentures fit me properly although I was unable to close my mouth to a relaxed position comfortably.  I had to take the dentures out and place the
top one on the bottom one to prove to her that they did not "meet" correctly.  Well, well she finally agreed with me!!!! Unfortunately the dentures needed to be returned to the lab to be corrected.
My bite is now much better.  Sadly, six months later, I still have not adapted to wearing dentures and wish I NEVER made the decision to do so.  My speech is not good and I am very self conscious talking.  Biting into food and eating is also very difficult.  I hope you are having better luck than I.

Eek. That is sad to read. I have to say my new dentures also do not meet fully at the back but this does not stop me chewing at all. It's only day 3 for me and already I am able to chew again better than I have been able to for many years. Yes they still hurt where my last few remaining teeth were removed but I would never go back. I have a full set again now. My partial is history. I can smile & eat again with confidence. Yes, I have to use fixodent but that is such a small price to pay for having a fully working & trouble free mouth again.
