Pain pills & ice will be your best friends for the next few days! I'm proud of you, I couldn't have done it without being knocked partially out!

I am happy that you are coming along I still have to do everything starting with extractions.  Nervous and excited although I am going to be going to a terrific dentist.  I am concerned that I will need oral surgery.  I hope I do not need that and he can pull them and replace in one day.

My oral sugeon was going to give me a general anesthetic until we discussed some of my health problems, that was when he recommended the twilight.

I was on IV sedation, was awake, but it seemed like it only lasted 5 minutes. I couldn't believe it when the oral surgeon said, "That's it. You're done."
I'm now 2 weeks out and it's much, much better. Just hang in there and healing will take place.

Great. Dentures feel natural in mouth. Still occasional sore spot and may need another adjustment soon. Learning to eat, slow process, but going out for Mexican meal tomorrow.

Hi Josie, how are you? I wanted to ask you a question I saw something about a week or two ago on this site that was talking about people making me a denture whiter by using charcoal. When I went for my hard reline the other day I asked my dentist about it and he said no your denture is not going to get whiter. Nothing is going to change the color of the teeth on your denture, kidding around he said to me if I put charcoal on half of your teeth the other half will
definitely look whiter. So I'm wondering in Canada do they have something that will get your false teeth (denture teeth) whiter?

Hi Elizabeth hope all is well. When you pick your shade for your denture that is the color. You can't make them any whiter, just like a crown. Only teeth that can get a little "whiter" are natural teeth.

Putting charcoal on your face (or just having a dirty face) will make them look whiter.

That picture also shows why if you use secure adhesive you should spread it out thin instead of just running a bead in the bottom of the grooves that fit over your gums. If your dentures are loose.  When it gets wet it swells and tries to fill the gaps. If you just have a bead of secure, it pushes the top teeth down and the bottom teeth up, making them look bigger. It looked worse than the picture shows. When I went to wash up after work, I looked in the mirror in the dark bathroom, and all I saw was teeth! That is the teeth I got from affordable dentures. They are the lightest shade in the naturals. My profile pic is the ones I made. They are shade A2.

Ken, my dentist did not give me a choice he just matched it up to my natural bottom teeth and I told him I was going to use Crest White Strips to lighten my bottom teeth but he didn't seem to care. He is a very good dentist though. I don't know what shade mine is called but I would've probably gone for a little bit lighter .

Thanks Cheryl Shay for your kind words. Thankfully I wasn't affected by the fires. I live in Ontario and that was in Alberta which is north west. Woot woot! You ate rice that's great. Kenny that was too funny! Shade A2 is a good one, not too white. Some people want them so white they look like Chiclets.

Josie...from your experience which is the most popular shade that is nice and white, but looks natural and not too white like chiclets?

Hey Debbie. A1 is the shade you want to stay away from then. Too white. A2 or A3 are good shades. They should have tooth cards that they can put at your mouth and have a look in the mirror. Some people match it with their natural teeth if they start before having them extracted and sometimes people also get a shade lighter than their lower arch. Don't you folks get a chance to pick your shades? There are also a lot of different brands for teeth and I noticed my own dentist in town has different ones then we do. If you can definitely ask them to put some tooth cards up to your mouth while looking in the mirror. :)

Thank you Josie! At Aspen in Carrollton, GA., they have the shades on a little strip. They are crammed in side by side about the size of your pinky fingernail. It is really hard to tell what shade looks best when they are like that (they are start blending together). I will definitely take a look at A2 and A3. I definitely want white teeth since I am paying so much for them, I just don't want to look fake. All of your advise on here is just awesome! Thank you for what you do!

Thanks Debbie for your kind words. Most of the time you can take off an individual tooth off those cards when you're looking at a shade. See if the tooth you like will come off and bring it close to your mouth.

Or even have a couple small, non white pieces of paper to cover the other ones.

They asked me what color I wanted, I told them one shade darker than glow in the dark! If you have ever seen the show Friends, they do a whole episode of Ross bleaching his teeth too white, the woman he was on the date with flipped off the regular lights and turned on a black Light and of course his teeth little right up. Lol

We like to go take the kids Cosmo bowling, I don't want that to happen!

The truth of it is unfortunately we are all aging and that's why a 20 yr olds mouth with teeth in good health will be brighter than a 40....50...60 yr old and so on.

They gave me the option of a general at a private hospital (12 teeth) but I opted for the chair. Would have added a few $$$$'s to the cost. I have just had my new uppers lined after a 6 month wait (dentist's orders) But he gave me a new upper after realising I needed an adustment. Teeth needed to be moved back slightly. Fit great, but my jaw is aching from the rear molars being in a different place & have a few new sore spots. But I'm so rapt in having a set that fit so well I don't give a rats A. What others have said about warm salty water is true, it works.
