Does anyone have any recommendations for me when I get all my teeth pulled ? I will be getting dentures immediately after and I'm scared to death. I'm only 24 and I have had a calcium problem since my adult teeth came in

I would have lots of soft foods on hand, ice packs, pain relievers, and lots of towels. You have a tendency to drool afterwards. Plus more gauze. They never give you enough.

Awesome! I am not able to have any actual pain killers like Vicodin and what not so,I'm hoping with me not being allowed to have those I can deal with the pain. I'm such a huge baby when it comes to pain but I refusr to go without teeth.

I definitely agree with more gauze!!! And don't have a pillow you don't want to drool on. Had full extractions before Thanksgiving....they may offer you Tylenol with codeine. Otherwise I used Excedrin. It's not really pain as much as pretty sore, running and just generally getting used them. I have temporary set....permanent set at 6 months. That's how Aspen dental recommends. Nothing to eat that's too hot or cold the first two days. Good luck!!!!!!

Soft foods and small bites. You will be re-learning to chew and speak and it takes time. They are called immediate dentures. Look up on line what to expect. It will be a frustrating period but hang in there it will get better

If I were yu I would take a couple more days off. My swelling and pain were worse day two and three. I only used ibuprofen for pain and swelling.

I'm pretty new to having my dentures. I still have trouble with the bottoms staying put and if I wear them it's hard to talk. I am wearing my top denture more when I have to talk and leave bottoms out to wear at home to find a resolve to keep bottoms from floating. It's not terribly noticeable that way.

Yes in my experience and from what i keep reading and seeing on YT videos is that the pain gets "real" on day 3-4. I had a buttload of extractions done a little over two weeks ago and i feel fine now but that first week was miserable, i only had advil and tylenol to work with, i hear Ibuprofen works good. I wanted to sleep alot and i was moaning and bitching most of the time, but you have to get through it.

The best way to get your speech back is sing to the radio or talk to yourself. Sounds crazy but it will bring the speech back a lot faster. Your speech may not be affected at all. I've seen patients that before they leave the chair they are talking fine so don't be too worried about that

Also sleep with the new teeth in for 72 hours. Main reason is to compress the tissue in the roof of your mouth in order to gain some suction. Acts as a band aid as well. When you not singing to the radio stay clenched to compress that tissue.

The clenching wont hurt? And ill def keep them in,at this point I dont think I ever wanna take them out unless I lock myself in the bathroom lol so will just regular cleaning and brushing be fine for the first 72 hours?

You should be fine with clenching. You can determine the pain level . You should take them out at night after that. I say it's like having a band aid on your skin all the time. You need to take it off to let the skin breathe. The mouth is the same. You need to let that tissue breathe and relax.

Stock up on frozen yogurt. Pudding. Cream of whatever soup. And drink tins of water. It will take about a week before you will start feeling like yourself again. I had mine dine in July of this year.

And Ensure is great for making you feel like you've had some nutrition.  I lived on it for days and it kept me satisfied.  Get yourself a 12 pack because if you are feeling shaky, it makes all the difference.  And it tastes great.

Ice packs for the first 12-24 hours! Ibuprofen and Tylenol combo if your health allows it. Jello, broth, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, protein shakes.. I was eating soft food WAY longer than I expected to be. Rinse your mouth with saltwater GENTLY after 24 hours and keep doing it several times a day for a few weeks. It wasn't as immediately painful as I expected but the recovery was longer than I thought it would be!

If you are 24 do not get dentures
You are too young for dentures
You should get implants and live a life with permanent teeth
I have all implants and I love them
Get a loan if you don't haave the money
If you believe you can not do this,  At the very least get over dentures which are dentures  attached or  secured by implants.
If you live in New York there are less expensive implant places

I agree with everyone else that soft foods in hand are a must. I was soft foods only for two weeks before I was allowed to use adhesives. I had 16 upper extractions and honestly ibuprofen did the trick for any pain. I was mostly sore and in pain from the denture moving around. Definitely do salt water rinses after the first 24 hrs. The more the merrier because it helps heal you faster and it is soothing if you have discomfort. I didn’t have bruising or swelling but I did use an icepack to help numb from the outside with the denture sores. I would suggest staying away from work for at least 4-5 days because you need to rest and deal with any pain in those first couple of days. Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress. It is worth it to not be in constant pain from baf teeth. Some people are just born to have horrible teeth no matter how hard they try to have good teeth. Many times it’s genetic. I inherited my father’s weak teeth and small mouth so my issues really ramped up in my young adult years (once my wisdom teeth reared their ugly sideways and impacted heads) and here I sit at 36 with a full upper denture after spending thousands trying to save my teeth only to lose them anyway. It was time to end the vicious cycle. :)

I can ask them that? I feel like they'll think im just trying to get drugs lol. I live in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee and i know doctors and dentists are very strict on that stuff here in gods country. Maybe ill let them know its causing me to have anxiety

I don't think they would think that. Most dentist give valium anyway. Not strange at all to ask for it especially with a dental procedure. NO ONE like the dentist..LOL..You shouldn't have to ask, but I guess your dentist doesn't give valium without asking. Dang, your getting all of your teeth pulled. That causes extreme anxiety. Don't care what they think, you're having to go through this, not them. I know what you mean about asking for drugs tho. There is a epidemic of drug abuse in this nation. It happened to me, I know. I have several reasons to be on pain meds and was. When my hubby died seven years ago I became addicted to my pain meds. I used them for depression. I now have my life back and no longer on pain meds. I do have to be on suboxone but at least I have a life again. I'm not ashamed of what happened, It is part of my past and I can't change it. I can only take one day at a time and be the best person I can be for that day. If someone wants to judge me for that, hey that's on them, not me. I'm excited for you to be able to smile again.

As I keep saying to everyone that says they are getting dentures at a
young age that  before you  extract all your teeth research it completly
because there is no going back.  Large numbers of people can not wear dentures or get such a bad fit they can not wear them.
Visit a prostodontist for a consultation, Consult with an implantologist   Go for free consultations.  Read all the blogs on this site.  Read about it on the internet   Find a dental school clinic for a consultation
There are also better alternatives then dentures and that would be  implants or dentures secured by implants or mini implants,

  • Thank you Barbara, it just shows that opioid addiction can happen to anyone. I am a 60 year old woman who never took pain meds in my past. This was several years ago but I believe the epidemic has gotten worse since that time. I'm not brave tho, just human. LOL..

Good luck with everything
Be very clear with the dentist that you want whatever  he does to be
comfortable.  No getting used to it routine.  Never get used to pain or a misfit
Just insist that you want it to be comfortable.  That is what you are paying for and that is what he must be giving you
