I'm Going Insane With New Dentures

It's been only 6 days with new dentures and I am having SO many problems. 6 Days ago I got all my bottom teeth removed. They put in the immediate denture. I can't eat anything, at all without some sort of pain. I am hungry ALL the time, and miserable/cranky because of this. I have tried protein shakes but they aren't the same and though I can eat baby food the taste is starting to make me very nauseous. Around day 4 I noticed I cannot close my mouth comfortably at all. I went to the dentist and she did some adjustments which relieved the pain a bit but now my mouth is open at almost ALL times and my have EXTREME dry mouth. The dry mouth is so bad I can't even sleep because it wakes me up since it irritates the wounds in my gums which are still fresh. I also can't sleep if the dentures aren't in because I still have top teeth and my jaw keeps clenching and slamming down into the wounded gums causing immense pain. I haven't gotten any decent sleep or food in DAYS. I am an emotional wreck and I cannot handle this any more. Everyone keeps saying it gets better and I'm willing to believe that but think of it this way. Before extractions I was only 109 pounds (at the height of 5feet 9inches) I cannot afford to lose MORE WEIGHT and I cannot keep my weight up if I'm on a liquid/baby food diet. I cannot function on only 2-3 hours of sleep at a time then having to get up to brush my teeth or rinse my mouth. It's too painful to eat, too painful to sleep, and even the really heavy pain medications aren't doing anything. My dentist won't even let me use poligrip yet she told me to wait. What am I supposed to do? If I can't sleep I can't function and I kind of need to because I'm 30 years old and have work to do. Can anyone help me with ANY of this? ESPECIALLY THE FACT THAT I CAN"T EVEN CLOSE MY MOUTH COMFORTABLY even when I'm awake?

I'm new with an upper denture 5 days and I can understand the frustration you must feel. I saw in cvs a rinse from biotine that helps with the dry mouth. I have my bottom teeth so reversed on the sleeping. I also got something called sea salt rinse. My biggest issue is the mouth sores and for the upper the hard palate. I literally cried tonight thinking I'm not going to survive. So my wishes to you and to me that it will get better.

I am so sorry! I really feel for you because I have so many sores on my lower gums that when I take the dentures out and put them back in, it irritates them. Also I was suppposed to take medication (Liquid) for anxiety/help me sleep since I've been having so many problems and it burned the heck out of them so my face was throbbing for hours after that. I am using a lot of dry mouth stuff to try to treat my dry mouth and it's BARELY working. I'm no stranger to dry mouth but it's never been THIS bad so no idea what's going on there. Thanks for the suggestion on the salt rinse though. It's been 8 days now, officially and though there are things that are SLIGHTLY better the over all living is NOT GOOD and I don't know how anyone gets used to this. Hang in there, it must be awful for you and I have to get the top teeth done as well (Getting full mouth implants) so ugh not looking forward to that either.

The dry mouth will end.hot salt water will help with the sores. I had three weeks of sores on the bottom at six months out it wasn't any fun at all.now that my teeth have been relined I have sores again on the bottom but it helps to keep fixadent in them it helps a lot.

I have a partial on the bottom for now and will get the rest out over Christmas break (not looking forward to that but it's the only time I can with work, I am a teacher) my problem is having the fixodent stay in for the whole day. I can wear it for about 8-10 hours then they start to come loose and tonight I reapplied it so I can eat some snacks at night....I am worried about the zinc in this and wonder if they will ever make a product without zinc. How long do your dentures stay in? Have you tried using other products or the sea bond stuff? I really need to have these stay in longer..I have very long days

The fixodent had been working just fine for me (and I had been using less than the normal amount) but apparently a bunch of it collected in the back of my throat even though every night I clean my mouth SO WELL and the dentures too I'm terrified to ever use that stuff again.
