Give it a little time for your gums to adapt.  I think the more you wear it, the better the fit,  try sleeping with it; remove for cleaning only.

Even if they told you no adjustments for 2 weeks I would call
the dentist and say  you are in agony and you think
something is wrong and you want an adjustment NOW
Sounds like they are too long???

Laura,  I'm on my ninth day with immediate dentures.  I can agree it feels like they are very bulky.  My tongue wants to push them out constantly.  My dentist did a soft realign on the fifth day.  That helped a lot.  I can now talk almost normal.  My tongue has learned to relax, another milestone.  Once it, (my tongue) realized that the big hunk of plastic is going away, my speech improved.  If your swelling has gone down, and your tongue relaxes, I think things will get better.  The biggest problem I have now is biting into foods.  That doesn't work.  I've found in other forums that you have to push while biting so that the upper plate does not come loose.   Everyday is a learning experience.  You have to learn how to talk, eat and sneeze without your plate flying across the room.  (Just kidding.  That didn't happen.)  I'm finding it an interesting challenge.  Heck, I'm very new to this and already giving advice.  After you have that soft relining, things are sure to get better.

I think you should not be trying so hard to get used to uncomfortable dentures
I think you should be asking your dentist for an adjustment

I agree, thats exactly what ive been trying to do. Thinking if I wear them enough they'll start feeling better. The answer is NO. The more I wear them the worst they get and the more sores I get. My jaw is swollen. Dont put up with it. We dont put up with other stuff we get done. Like going to get my hair foiled blond. If it turned green it would be unexceptable. I would demand that they fix it immediately. So on that note I am calling them again.

I'm new to this forum, but can advise purely from a dental-nurse point of view. We would tell patients to come back if they felt they needed their new dentures adjusting to minimise discomfort.  Many a time I watched my boss do simple filing to smooth off some of the bulk, so it is definitely possible.  We would also advise sucking (not crunching!) on boiled sweets to help get used to the feel of the teeth.  Dentists don't usually recommend sweets, but in the case of new dentures, it did help many patients.

sometimes just a small adjustment will make a difference
It should not be such a torture
The dentist is the professional and he should fix it for you

Laura I would call and get an adjustment now. Dont wait like I did. They are telling me its to late. I have had 3 different dentures made in 30+ year have never had on fit so big on top. Dont put up with nothing they say. I notice once they get there money they dont care. We become an inconvience to them but its free when you have to go in and get adjustments and realignments. Your mouth should only hurt because you got teeth pulled not because of the denture. Something is wrong with the densure. My bottom top are so big and loose ive got deep sores in my gums. There twice as big as my last set. I took my denture out at night when I first had my teeth pulled. Just soak them in warm water and make sure you dont drink anything especially through a straw. It can cause impaction this hurt really bad. Make sure you put your teeth back in your mouth first thing in the morning. Good luck. Give them a call Monday. Always remember a customer is always right.

They want you to go away once they have their money
Don't let a dentist do that to you
Don't let a dentist tell you you have to get used to discomfort
Have him make adjustments until they are comfortable and if they can't make them comfortable ask for your money back and go somewhere else

I complained to the big company for affordable dentures. The agreed to do a new hard realignment. Problem is every time I call to make appointment they put me on hold and never come back. I have lost 13 pounds and have spent a fortune on ensure and Anbesol. I am so pissed off and upset. My bottom gums are one big open sore.

Good for you with the complaint.  Get there and have them do the reline.  Can you email
them and tell them you have been trying to reach them to no avail
Remember if this reline does not correct the problem then you have to tell them you want
a refund.  Don't let them scare you into taking a reline and  then giving up if it does not solve the problem.
Is it only the lower denture that is the problem
You can  not be tortured like this.  You did not pay this money to be miserable and tortured.  If the reline does not work you have to  ask for a refund and this blog will walk you thru how to get the refund
Good luck and let us know what the next step brings
Take care of yourself

Thanks Barbara for taking the time to respond to me. I am gonna have to go to ER my mouth is so bad. The sores are getting infected. My top teeth are fine. My bottoms are so big that I have sores on both sides of my mouth from trying to get them in my mouth. I cant get use to them there so big. I compared them to my other teeth and they are boby the size. Theres no excuse for mine being messed up, as there was no shrinking of my gums to deal with. I may just contact my attorney. As I have gone through hell. I will send pictures later of my old and new teeth. Also if they will show up I will take pictures of the inside of my mouth. It looks bad. I wont go without no matter what.

THE PRroblem WITH ATTORNEYS and dental cases is that almost NO lawyers will accept a dental case because there is no money in it for a lawyer. So it is almost impossible to get a lawyer unless he is your uncle. But speak to your lawyer and see what he reccomends
I think you should send a demand letter to your dentist
Ask your lawyer what amount you should ask for
Frequently it is the small claims court maximum amount

How much did you pay your dentist??
Please let us know how you want to handle this
You certainly can at least get your money back
Let us know. Keep us informed
Take care of yourself

I agree with Sharona and others who suggest not to wait. They may not want to do a soft relign in 2 weeks, although they can, but they most certainly see you during this time as often as necessary. For example, you may develop sores in your mouth where the dentures are rubbing. Each time this may happen, you go in and they check that spot and will take their little tools and correct that so as to not keep rubbing on gums. For me, this made my teeth fit better. In my office the staff told me I could go every day if I had to. Although the front desk said no, I just went anyway. Dentures cost a lot...and not to hurt that's for sure. I understand your emotional state as well. It is almost like a life changing event. But relax, follow instructions they gave you. And if they hurt too much, then take them out and rest and eat something. Not eating or if too uncomfortable to sleep won't make you feel better. I could not afford permanents, so after 2 years, I still have immediates. I hope you feel better soon. I know many can wear their dentures right away with few problems...even eat almost from the get go. Today is Saturday, if they are in office, I would go . But, if not rest up the weekend. Take them out if too painful. Maybe see them Monday. I'm sure it will work out once your mouth has healed.

What do you mean when you say:

"Laura I would call and get an adjustment now. Dont wait like I did. They are telling me its to late. I have had 3 different dentures made in 30+ year have never had on fit so big on top"

It is NOT too late.  You have 2 years to get a refund if your dentist made n incorrect denture
You can still complain to the Dental society in your state or go to Small claims court for a refund

The first thing to do is to send a letter (called a demand letter ) to your dentist asking for a refund  Tell him you have done everything he asked you to do and he still did not make you dentures that you could wear without pain  Most states have a 2 year dead line so if it is within 2 years you still can get your money back and go to another dentist

Send the letter Certified return receipt requested.  If he does not give you the refund the dental society will   have another dentist look at your denture in your mouth and if it is incorrect they will see that you get your money back

If you prefer not to go to the dental society you can go into small claims court and ask for your money back

You are  right they have your money and they no longer want to pay any attention to you
Good luck

Really, Barbara? I told my dentist that I had been quoted up to 20,000 for dentures. They told me they could do much cheaper. They led me to believe that the 4,000 I had on a care credit card, would get me ythe impressions and dentures made and then a small amount for the rest. They gave me a folder with everything that I needed. Didn't give me the total amount but I had made clear I could not afford much. Then when the immediates were done and I scheduled an appointment fo have teeth pulled etc. they happily told me it would only be about 12,000. I said I had told them I couldn't afford that. They had suggested it would not be near that amount. So they said that they could not refund for the immediates since they were done, found out later that they weren't, and sai that they would lower it to 7,000 but I could not get permanents but they could get the immediates to work. Well, they couldn't cause my jaw goes slightly to left. Also, my after visits were not covered. Nor alignments so they didn't even tell me about them. I found out on this site about them. They waited until dentist was on vacation, and did not charge me for a soft relign. Never got a hard relign. And even though they got them to fit better. I cannot eat with my dentures in. They told me I'd have to start all over with new dentures. So another 5,000. I told them I didn't have that. No concern to them. All in office were so nice. The dentist very nice. But they certainly didn't care when my money ran out. I had it done March 2016. I'll check date, maybe it hasn't been quite 2 years. But I would like to be able to eat out or with family and friends again. Too embarrassed without my teeth. Thanks for info.

Teresa you can find a demand letter online. All you have to do is fill in the blanks. Please do it AASP. Do you know how long its been. I know how you feel about not being able to where your teeth. When I have to wear mine it causes open sores in my gums. It hurts so bad. I feel so stupid. I paid thousands for something that causes me extreme pain.

Hi  Theresa Benoit-derry
Boy have you been overcharged and still you do not have teeth that are comfortable
You deserve to get what you have paid for an this has NOT happenned

Write the letter Theresa because it is your money and they have not done a correct job
The letter does NOT have to be a masterpiiece just an ordinary letter

If you paid $6,000?  Just say "this is a request for return of my $6,000 as I can not wear these dentures and I paid for dentures that I could wear
Tell him you have done everything they asked you to do and and the dentures still do not fit properly.  You must do your self a favor and do it.  You have worked hard for this money and no one should take it from you

Tell him if you do not receive the money withing one week you will either go to the dental society or sue him in court
Send it registered return receipt requested
Let us know how you are doing with this
You should also go to another dentist who offers  free consultations  and find out what a new denture will cost you and that  dentist will probably tell you what is wrong with your dentures
I have implants and it is wonderful
Good Luck Theresa

Time is a problem here.  You have to move very fast.
You should send the letter Tomorrow.  Have it typed today and mailed from the Post office
Remember   it does not have to  be perfect.  Just say what you have to say.  You want a refund because they did not provide you with dentures that you can wear.  Do it  tomorrow and then we will  figure out what your next step should be as soon as you post the letter (certified return receipt)

March 20, 2016?  Well is that the last time you went to the dentist or is that the date they first
delivered the denture???  When was the last adjustment date???

One way or another they OWE you

Laura, do the salt water rinses several times a day. The sodium speeds healing and toughens up the tissue.

Etsy shop owners can not delete negative comments. I have an Etsy shop so I’m familiar with all that. Etsy itself will only delete comments that pertain to shipping problems that are out of the hands of the Etsy shop owner.

Thank you Barbara. Some if the charges are for the extraction itself...and that costs alot, and I know I can't get that back. The girls in office did have me come in when dentist was on vacation, and they did not charge. They worked on them, but still my teeth hit each other...like how the lowers go slightly behind the uppers...well mine don't. They hit together, due to my jaw. I think they messed up by not taking time to look over my mouth, and then assuming I were getting permanents. I can't get implants because I had lengthy chemo, and bones in mouth might be tricky. And the cost. But, you have given me the incentive to go over there and just put my foot down. At first I didn't want to get girls in trouble for helping me out doing relign while doc iut of town, but I would like to eat out once in a while. They are also blaming me that I didn't wear them much after I got them. Well, I did what I could. I ran fever.ok enough of my troubles. Thank you again and have great weekend. I will make appointment at my dentist next week. And, I have a dentist picked out that gives free consultation...however...it may be I'll still need new dentures. I agree free consultation to fine best dentist is way to go...I happened to get mine because I had abscess and fever and he was across the street. That's when I explained my dilemma and they said they would work with me cost wise. I think they honestly thought they were giving me great deal. But dentist have money...so what do they know. 11,000 or the 7000 they settled on...was cheap to them. Thanks again

It's a good idea to go back  but to preserve your rights to get a refund you should put it in writing.  They must be put on notice.   They have an obligation to you.  You have paid them their fee they have not done their job.
No one ignores anything in writing
Don't worry about getting people in trouble just think about yourself first

Yes , sounds great!!! I will get back to my dentist
This coming week. But, I have this worry that I'll get him angry and then I will accidentally break mine or something and then they won't help me. They had said they keep my impressions in case of lost or something. But of course I'd have to pay. I'm in south Florida, where there is a dentist on every corner. Finding one is not a problem. It is finding a good one. Thanks to both Dar
Tsunami 260 and Barbara.

Yes you are absolutely right. I let it go on too long. Not long after I got dentures, my mother in law got sick, broke hip and then liver cancer came back and she passed away. In between she had to go to rehabs and live 3 hours away....I couldn't get to dentist regularly, so of course when I got in there they would say just about any excuse. Now they were nice, but at same time pretty much did nothing. Didn't explain things. Questions I had were answered on here. I think I just got tired of them. But no excuse, I should of pushed harder. And I will. We were tight financially from going back and forth to my mother In Laws so often. I was happy to have any teeth that I felt comfortable to smile with. But....they flat out lied to me. However I've heard worse stories on here. And going in will be contingent on how much they will charge for visit. Dentists and veterinarians...both overcharge because they know your back can be up against the wall. But, I'm not speaking for all. Many are ok. Thanks for the help. I am still interested in this mail order teeth thing.

Russell is a VERY nice guy. It's all Mail Order. Too much info for me to try to give you. Search on You Tube/ FB.  Easiest is to contact him. I have my immediate vacuumed sealed and stored as a spare. Amazing how much lighter the perm  is. I'm almost 3 years with my "Russell," no issues at all. Please drop him a text/ email.

One thing about Russell's, they are heat cured. Some people can have a reaction to the cold curing.
