Is it better to have teeth cut out vs pulled?

I read so much about bone splinters that I wonder if it will help by having the teeth cut out? My husband had his extractions today surgically and the surgeon found several areas from previous extractions that he smoothed the gum and removed pieces of bone that were left behind. He really has very little pain or swelling that he is not controlling with Tylenol ( so far, knock on wood).

All of my teeth were surgically removed and the surgeon smoothed everything out too. I’m two months in and haven’t had a single bone splinter. I had asked about it at my initial consultation too and he explained that after smoothing it down, it was not likely that I would have any splinters, although possible. I also had very little swelling. I was given a steroid through IV during surgery and then took it orally in diminishing amounts throughout the first week. I managed pain by rotating between Tylenol and Toradol (anti inflammatory). I did take painkillers, half at a time, the first few nights at bedtime also. Not so much because I was in pain, but I was worried I would have trouble because I used to grind my teeth.
