U should b able to eat sum things. Soft foods. Mashed taters soups my husband browned ground beef and chopped really fine and mixed it with mashed taters for me. Any kind of soft food u should b able to eat. I know the first few days to week I only ate things I could swallow almost without chewing. Ice cream too. Lol. I only got upper denture so I'm sure its slightly different with both but just take it slow and try eating soft things. Good luck and hope it gets better for u. I'm about 4 weeks with denture and am eating quite well. Still probs with few things but doing better daily.

Did you try SECURE they also make strips.  BTW I use SECURE and sometimes I get so annoyed with the bottom that I just take them out.  Period.

3 days into full extractions and new top and bottom dentures and at the moment, haven't had much pain. I know this will be a long road, but I'm already feeling more confidence in my smile. I as a lot of you have commented, am working on my speech. It's to early for me to use the denture adhesive yet, but it's only a few weeks away. Feeling blessed that I don't have that day to day tooth aches. I hope all is having a. Blessed day and god bless.

Jana: Good luck on 5/8. Most of the difficulty I had post extraction were due to 2 things, which are fairly predictable. The 1st is pain caused by the new denture rubbing against your gums causing leukoplakia. That produces white patches on your gums. It's not serious but it hurts a lot. For the 1st 10 days I dreaded putting my denture in. But your dentist can help you a lot. Do not be reluctant to get their help.

The 2nd problem is tiny bone fragments that gradually emerge. When they do, they cause hot spots on your gums. The dentist can help there, too. But I've gotten pretty good at taking care of them myself.

One thing that really helped me was gently brushing my gums. I don"t remember how many days post extraction I started to do that, but the sooner the better. I'm thinking it was 8-10 days after the extractions. Take it easy, and you will be amazed how good it feels.

Second, use salt water rinses at least 4 times a day. One tsp salt to a cup of water warmed in a microwave for 30 seconds is all it takes. And try not to get impatient or down. The 1st few days can be tough, but each day is better than the one before it.

Don't ever forget that you're doing something that's going to improve your health, and you're going to come through this experience as a stronger, healthier person. You have the support of everyone on this chat, and let us know how you're progressing. All the best to you. Joseph

It's so easy to forget that, Joseph. Thanks for the reminder. There have been many times I've told myself if I could go back I wouldn't have done this. Even my cruddy teeth were better than this... But ultimately it's just not true.

I have had the thought of why did I do this, I want to go back to my crappy teeth, they were so much better. But truth of it all, that is not true! I love my new smile, it is beautiful! I love knowing I will not have another tooth ache, an infection, a trip to the ER because the infection got so bad, I need iv meds now. Nope this is 100% better than all that crap!

Jana: There is something I've been debating bringing up, but since you still have the extractions ahead of you, I decided to do it. The worst night I experienced had nothing to do with the pain. I never took anything other than Advil, but I was taking about 12 a day. No opioids at all, but it still screwed my system up but good.

I was absolutely miserable, and that was exactly one week after the last extractions. I gave up the painkillers immediately. I haven't had one since. Senexon helped me get through it, and I have been fine since. Dietary changes - soft foods and maybe a lack of protein - probably contributed to it as well.

I still take 2 Senexon a couple of times a week just be safe, at least until I get back to a regular diet. My mouth still hurts some if I have to bite hard, and my diet remains somewhat restricted. I have not seen this especially difficult issue discussed anywhere else, and I could be the only one affected in this way. I somehow suspect not.

I just wanted to give you a heads up. I hope you don't mind, and I hope all goes well for you. Joseph

Glad I stumble upon this. I had 14 teeth removed 10 days ago. Have been struggling with simple eating simple things I ate fine with almost no teeth before. I had a adjustment today and feeling better. Last two days teeth sat in a bowl it hurt so bad. I've been tearing up Mac and cheese with the small shells and jello and pudding. Rice and burritos as well. Hot dogs are ok if cut up small enough to swallow like a pill. My problem is dentures keep moving around like they are possessed and tops keep making me want to throw up. Have appointment this Friday hopefully I can start using adhesive.

Welcome josh! This site is awesome and every1 is so nice and helpful. I'm about month and half in and this place has been life saver! It helps talking to ppl who know and understand what ur going thru firsthand. Idk if ur dentist has told u to not use adhesive at all right now but from day 1 my dentist told me i could use little on top area where no stitches. Then after stitches removed he said i could start everywhere. Learning to eat again takes patience that's for sure. Hope u get to use adhesive soon. And any questions u have sum1 here will know the answer!

Hi Josh & Welcome! This site is great, everyone here is very nice and easy to talk to. There is lots of useful information here and don't ever be afraid to ask questions, as we're all going through the same thing, at different times But you can be sure whatever is going on with you someone has gone through it and can offer their advice! I am 20 days in from extraction and immediate dentures! Its a learning process that's for sure! But like I said everyone here is very nice and always offers great advice!
My advice, take it slow and one day at a time! Don't rush eating, it will take time to get back to eating like you were before or even better. Cut everything you eat into very small pieces, chew with your back teeth and on both sides at the same time. Just be patient.
Once your stitches come out, you should be able to use adhesvie and it will help with the bottoms flipping around. The tops also if you don't have good suction. My top dentures make me gag when I take them out every time, no matter what I do. Once they're in, I don't have a problem though.

Hey Josh WELCOME TO DENTURE LAND.  Only eat soft food.  When u heal u will need to ty different products.  I think you are not there yet.  Ice cream, milk shakes, pudding etc.  Relax u will be ok.  What u r feeling is very normal.
