It's been a while!

It's been 8 weeks (on the 12th) and things are great!  I am thankful that this has been an easy process for me so far.  I have been able to reach my eating goal of what I was looking forward to eating once I was comfortable enough.  I've had 4 cheeseburgers and 3 steaks.  A cheeseburger is the one thing that I really wanted once I was healed.  Sliced cucumber is not easy to eat and biting a chicken wing is a little difficult but other than that I'm good with anything.  It's nice being able to bite into food and chew on both sides of my mouth!  I've chewed on the left side of my mouth for so long that I had to train my brain to remember to chew on both.

As far as cleaning the dentures, my prosthodontist just has me brushing them with a toothbrush, no cleaners or anything.  I have soft material in from my adjustments and I just brush them and rinse them off.  I do brush my gums with Fixodent mouth was and rinse my mouth out with it as well.  I use Fixodent Ultra for my adhesive and it works really well on the top and about fair on the bottom.  The bottom will usually last about 4 or 5 hours and then comes loose.  I have learned to keep a small tube of adhesive in my purse in case I need to reapply.  I never knew a mouth could have so much saliva!

But seriously, I never believed this would have gone so smooth.  I was so terrified and nervous and didn't know how I was going to feel about all of this but I have absolutely no regrets.  I feel so much better about myself and people I know say that it's obvious.  I saw my family about 3 weeks ago and they all could not believe how good they looked.  One of my aunts thought I had veneers!  There are times during the day that I don't realize that I even have dentures because they feel that comfortable.

I know that everyone's experience is different, some worse and some better, but I look at it as would you rather have the teeth you had before?  I knew mine couldn't be saved so I could either continue living with them the way they were or I could do something about it, bite the bullet, and get the dentures.  Those of you who are struggling with deciding what to do or if you're struggling with how your healing process is going, please know that I'm praying for you.  There is a brighter side!  If you need someone to talk to, shoot me an email at xylochikrhs65@msn.com and I'd love to chat with you and give you some encouragement!

In the next day or so I will try and add a picture to this post and show you all my teeth!  Have a great weekend!
