Just a fact of life for me

Gave up on bottoms when out, I put more of the fixodent or whatever one I have on hand, after everytime I eat, if not eating about every 2 1/2 to 3 hours I replace it, just a fact of life with the bottoms. I have tried everything and at 72, not going for replants, so just accepted what I have to do, at home, unless eating, don't wear them.

I agree. I went to dentist today and they did soft reline..again. They told me I have a small mouth and the dentures are just too big and also my lower jaw is a little off. She got them filling better..at no charge. But after everything said that I would either have to have implants..and I have little bone....but I can't afford that anyway. She suggested a..somethint or other...----- dontist. After the cost 2-4 k more..then I just crossed that off my list. I take them out at home..and cant eat with them in anyway..but would like to be able to eat out now and then. I guess they think they are helping...and they have..but if the dentures were too bug, is it my fault my mouth is too small? Regardless, I'm not going to worry about it yet. The apoxy that they used for the reline not only stinks, I seemed to have some kind of reaction to it. But, perhaps you know.... My teeth are airing out right now in my bathroom...still smell. But, since a had a reaction to that stuff..I would like to soak them but don't know how long after I had this done I should do this. I was going to call there tomorrow...but I get more info on here. But, at least I don't scare anyone in public...I can smile.

I've never had a reline and I had to go to a denture lab and pay for my set because the set I got thru medicaid was terrible.they looked like horse teeth . One week after I had my surgery to remove my teeth I had to go to this lab and I paid 600$ for the set and the difference was amazing. Well that was 7 years ago. . I live in them and sleep in them and use fixodent plus superior hold . the bottom of course don't stay to long but as long as I'm not eating its fine..I can manage. I also noticed that over the years passed my bone has decreased and it's like when I talk I can't see my top teeth . its like they r hiding behind my top lip and I don't like it at all. I thought maybe I need this reline because I uses to glue them once a day and now I find myself doing it all day long.. Its driving me crazy.. The top has loosened over time and it has to be the roof of my mouth has changed.. I always had a big smile and now when I look at myself in a video I notice I look very different..
I should be counting my blessings reading what a lot of ppl go thru here with there dentures...I'm lucky enough to be able to keep them in 24 hours a day. without them I feel naked and can't talk right .I definitely can't eat without them ! But if it wasnt for that dental lab I wouldve been looking like Mr.Ed !! Lol.

Oh, I forgot exactly what she told me...i was using... like. Blank blank font is
It sounded like. Orthodontist....but that braces....however...once on here a person who was a denturist commented that what they do is ....i believe they said...
Eliminated the middle man
Meaning that this was much of what they do. Not a typical dentist office. Because, for me,this they did free today, but my dentures are never going to fit right. I appreciate what she did...nut I can't get past that I spent 7000 for the extractions, impressions that were made and too big for my mouth????? So I was told at this specialist...
The ???? Dontist. Would cost up to, or more than another 4000. Implants were suggested bit, even then she said they might not work. I'm not paying for a maybe.those are a lot!! Pretty disappointed tonight. So if the denturist is around..lve got questions. Can anyone out there in denture land remind me of this specialist that I forget the name to??? All I know ended in dontist. Sorry, by that time I was seeing dollar signs on my head
Maybe I'll try to Google. She said these were people who help when there is a big problem with the dentures fitting. Sorry not much help

Crystal 545....i will look into the lab idea. If that is all they do...shoild be good at it. Yes. I feel like Mr ed myself
Still.shaking my head..

.were my dentures not fitting my fault because my mouth is small?? If dentures to big...isnt that the person who took impressions problem? Although the same person work on me today....she did a lot but..

Was told that they will never fit perfect
I'm confused what I paid for. I will look into the lab idea.

I had a set the dentist use that reline stuff on my first set of dentures. It was so gross I gagged each time I put them in my mouth.

At home never in.  I eat without them.  Full denture on bottom and partial on top.  SECURE is what I use when I go out.  I really hate them.  Sorry but that is true.  I have declined many invites because they never feel good or stay.  I have very little bone.  I wished I made different choices, but cant look back so I try and move forward when I have to.

I understand,Joan. When I go out with family to eat I usually just get coffee...maube something soft but that is pushing it. Then I get my order to go and dig in like a monkey on a peanut....without my teeth. I wish I had made better choices too, but I have a sister who was very loyal at the dentist....and she had major work done last year. Going to 3 different teeth professionals. Cost a lot and she's in 70's. I think I would just let it be, but that's me....but then I think if I had money? No, I still wouldn't. But. I turn down a lot cause of my teeth. Sometimes just because they hurt after time and nothing to do with eating. But, at least they look better than they did.

What a journey.  Its really hard for people and don't wear dentures and for some that have dentures and they are doing just fine.  Its all about good bone.  But sometimes its just knowing that denture is always a reminder in my mouth.  UGH

Hee hee..glad I not only one ( my husband thinks it like being lazy...). But, then I put myself back together again...not so bad. Since I will have to pay more to get my dentures to fit, and I just won't, I will at least make sometime to relax, which hasn't been such a bad thing. I never thought to take a breather before.....all these years I'm learning how to take time out. I like it. Still mad at my stupid dentures though. Stupid things......

Secure, Secure Adhesive, Polygrip, Fixodent, Kroger brand etc...etc....etc......I have no faith in any of it.   Does not work for me and never will.   I HATE MY DENTURES but there is no other alternative for me.     Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Polygrip I find to be about the best, but have not tried secure.  I am going to have another set made next year, my mistake I let them make a healing plate they called it, and all they did was reline, reline, reline, never another set, so to me they are just plainly too thick.

Sometimes dentures are taken out during the meal at the restaurant or in the car.  Did I mention I HATE THEM.

Reading all the comments makes me feel a little better knowing I am not the only one who hates my dentures. I use fixodent so much that it is making me sick. But I hate when my dentures are lose. The bottom one's hurt the most. I had to take a picture for my work badge and I swear I cried for days because I hate the way my smile looks. I have considered implants but there to darn expensive and I don't have enough bone on the bottom jaw to have implants.

If I'm going out to eat with my family I make sure I put (mouth glue) as I call it in my purse so that I'm not embarrassed by my teeth falling out. Or I can at least enjoy my dinner without the bottoms killing my jaw.

I wish everyone good luck!!

Ann, just to let you know I hate my denrure also and I only have a top one, however I will tell you one thing Fixodent which is the first thing I used because they gave it to me with my little package I guess you call it that has the container that you are supposed to clean them in every night, and it made me sick to my stomach that I actually threw up some green stuff. I haven't had that problem with poly grip or secure.

The Fixodent product I used had zinc and I have a problem with zinc, I know they do have some products that don't have zinc in them but I don't even want to be bothered with Fixodent at all.

stay away from zinc, as you can only use it I think twice a day, I get the zinc free ones, polygrip has been the best, and without zinc can use it as many times as I want,  I have not tried secure, will give it a whirl next time I need some more.
