Just got 28 Extractions and Immediate Dentures 4/11/18

Yesterday I got 28 extractions and immediate dentures put in, upon the dentist putting in the top denture he told me that they would look a bit " toothy " and told me not to worry that he would fix them, when he showed me in the mirror what I looked like I hated what I saw. Due to swelling and numbing I was unable to talk and let him know what I thought, but today I had a follow up appointment and I let him know how disappointed I was not only because of how i looked but that because I am unable to close my mouth, my teeth in the top denture are so large I am unable to eat or drink without the liquids or food falling right out of mouth.. I slobber constantly and it to runs out of my mouth because I cannot close it in order to swallow my own saliva, I have cried and cried for 2 days almost regretting this decision. I feel like i would of much rather kept my bad teeth then to walk around looking like a horse because these are so big, anyway long story short. he told me he cannot fix them, the teeth were placed in the gums of the denture wrong and now i have to wait until i am healed, get more impressions and have my tops remade, all will take around 2 months if not longer.. I am so disappointed and I know i will not be seen in public like this. I guess my question is.. is there anything I can do to get these to where atleast i can close my mouth and hide them, eat, drink until my new dentures are ready? I am so upset about how these look I wont even look in the mirror, my kids stare at me funny and its just awful. Thank you for any advice,  I have been reading stories here for weeks leading up to my surgery, was just hoping I would be someone who could report good news afterward :(

I got my full mouth done all at once 4 months in now. It was very hard for me at first also I could not

even eat or put my dentures in for the first 3 weeks I lost 20 pounds did not want to be seen in public

and when I finally did get my teeth in my family was like, you said, your mouth looks so big I was so depreessed and

upset cried uncotrollaby thought I made the worse dession of my life. My dentsist kept assureing me

that they would receed in time she said it is better to have them sticking out like that at first because your jaw

is going to keep shrinking and the teeth will go back more in time if they were already way back ultimatly

they may be to far back at the end.  It has not been an easy road at all but it has been slowly getting

better with time. It has been a long process for me but I am now doing pretty good and the teeth are

slowly going back. Personaly I think the best thing for me was not to wear them for the first 3 weeks while

my mouth was healing but I realize everyone does not have that option. I am now wearing my teeth

every day and I can eat just about anything I feel like I look pretty good in my dentures they are still a

little puffed out but not at all like at first. Please hang in there it does get much much better just

remember it is a life changeing experience and is going to take time to adjust to your new mouth.

Thank you so much for encouraging words and sharing your story with me, I took think I may be one of those who are unable to wear the dentures until healing, I took them out last night for the first time for bed as the dentist ordered and then when i woke up this morning I have extreme swelling in my cheeks and my dentures will not go back in with out horrible horrible pain.

I had 29 removed and/or cut out Monday afternoon. Before I left they put my immediate dentures in and sent me on my way blood pool and all! Lol! It was horrible! I decided to wait and take mine out wed night and have done ok since. I had major jaw swelling and bruise on jaw and cheek. In the mornings, it is more difficult to get them back in comfortable. I am on day four now and heading back to get my first adjustments done hopefully. My tops are huge and protrude much more than my normal line is suppose to be and my lower teeth are short and smaller so they rub below my lip gums and now that the swelling has gone down even more (still not completely down) it feels they float in my mouth. I can't speak more than a few words before they just fall down and out of place. On applesauce and yogurt and Ice cream still.
I wish you the best of luck and try to keep them in as much as possible. Definitely do warm salt water rinses for these have helped me most I believe. I took ibuprofen and Tylenol since day 1 and didn't intend of needing anything stronger and luckily I didn't have to have anything harmful for the body. Good luck! Keep us updated please!

I just had my extractions and full dentures 3 weeks ago today. The first few days My uppers stuck out some as well. It was due to all the swelling. It took about 3 or 4 days but the swelling went down and look completely normal now. But, big but.. if he revealed to you that the teeth were put in wrong then it is their error and therefore are responsible for making it correct. I went in for my first adjustments last Thursday and was told that when I go in for my hard reline at 6 months that my office is going to make me another set because my bite is off. Of course I didn't realize my bite was off, I've never had dentures before. I was a little upset and told the lady that I loved my teeth and they are so pretty that It scared me to have them redone. She told me that she guarantees that my new ones will be just as beautiful. My point is that they are making me new ones at no cost to me due to their error. This is what should happen for you as well. Good luck!!

Yes he is going to make me a new upper set for free, I suppose I am just so upset about the wait time until i get them, I either have to go with no teeth or use these which are really big.

I would be upset as well. Hopefully when your swelling goes down they will suit you well enough to make due until you get the new ones. It really is a shame that we spend all this time, energy and money making this decision and then get bad results. I wish you much luck on your journey.

yes it is, I have been debating on doing this for years and really wanted a better outcome, going through all the pain and sores and sleepless nights would have been more worth it to me IF my teeth were pretty and I had something to look forward too when it was all over, But i am trying and did manage to get the bottoms in today, called the dentist to go in for some adjustments on the top Monday morning

Good luck tomorrow I hope you get a big improvement. The sore spots will slowly go away as your mouth heals and get readjusted when you go to the dentist. It is a process.
