I know exactly how you feel. I have been toothless for 3 months. I get my dentures one week from today. I can hardly wait. On the bright side, I did lose a little weight. Not as much as I hoped because I managed to eat pretty well lol.

You are allowed  to feel sorry for yourself

It is a big trauma and there is no question about that

It is a physical Trauma and even more an emotional trauma

It is interesting that your dentist advised not to get an immediate denture and we would like to hear more about that.  I wonder if different dentists are proponents of different approaches to  immediate dentures.  I wonder whether patients do better one way or the other?  We would appreciate your follow up on that question.  Ask your dentist for his opinion for us?

Keep in touch

I also had my teeth extracted and my dentist does not do immediat edentures.  Historically he has much better with waiting for the gums to completely heal before placing dentures. I think it is just a matter of individual protocol.

Hi Judy
Hope you are doing well.
Not having   immediate dentures sounds more comfortable to me  but I don't really have an informed opinion it.   I do hear  on this forum that   so  many people  are  really having such a hard time with the immediate dentures that is almost seems like NOT  having them immediatley might be a better way to go???

Please keep us updated on your  dental  journey
Are they both uppers and lower dentures you are having?
If you would like to share information on your costs and , where you are located,   and what kind of dentist you are going to we certainly  would appreciate   that information.
Good Luck
Barbara

Barbara thank you for your reply. Im trying to look on the bright side of it all no toothache ever again and cant wait to start smiling. The reason my dentist doesn't recommend instant dentures is because waiting until your gums are healed provides less discomfort and better fit

Hi Kerryn
No tooth ache again.  That is very true
Having no dentures until you heal sounds right but most Dentists at least , on this forum recommed
immediate  Dentures???

In  thinking back when I had my teeth pulled  I had an immediate denture and I had no pain at all   Then when I had my implants placed once again an immediate denture and no pain again
Who is right or do they both work??

On this forum I think I am  the only proponent of dentures secured by implants or over dentures  AKA  clip on dentures.  They're a little more expense but they really work well

Keep us informed step by step of your future progress.
We want to know.  We would also like you to share your  costs

Your first step has gone really well because you have no pain!!

Please get back to us with your next step report

I'm wondering how long I would need to wait to get the clip on dentures you speak of , I've been researching although its only 8 day after immediate and the pain and discomfort is terrible the emotional part is devastating.... I'm starving well for real food and I just don;t see that happening with these dentures . I know it will be more pain but in the long term ahhh ?

Hi Jaz1967,

I imagine you can get the implants right after  the extractions/
Implants take time to intergrate into the bone and Dentists don't like to load them  4 months to 6 months

If you are near a dental hospital clinic I would go there

What city and state  do you Live in???

Read all about it on the internet  Let us know everything you learn about clip on's
Good luck

Hi Jaz1967,

Below is a little more information on clip ons for the lower jaw.
Are  you still thinking about clip ons with implants?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER TEETH?  Ball Attachment Denture
One possible option is to have two implants placed in your lower jaw and a denture made that snaps onto these implants. This option allows for your lower denture to be more stable while chewing than without implants. However, there will still be some movement of your lower denture, and sore spots will occur if any food particles, especially seeds, are caught underneath the denture. "

Yes iv noticed they do. A have a white spot on my top gum and it was feeling strange yesterday kind of like a little bit of pressure but i had something cold and its gone now i had multiple shots of local anesthetic so it may have been the injection site not sure. I go back to my dentist in 2 weeks time for what im guessing is a check up to make sure everything is healing apparently it will take 3 months to actually get my dentures. Something i discovered is you can whistle with no teeth haha :)

Pretty good so far no pain

Could   you tell us whether you have gone to a chain or a private dentist

Are these full dentures?

Can you tell us what you paid for extactions and what the dentures will cost?

Hi  kerryn dolbey
First you have to get better..     Sounds Like some kind of infection.  Go to the doctor
the antibiotic should help if it is an  infection
First things first,  so take care of yourself medically   with the  doctor.
Everything is happening at once with you

Hi Kerryn,
I know it sounds nasty at first, but just throw the food you crave in the food processor?! I also have moments where I crave anything other than the food I can have.
