After several years of avoiding dentists because 1. I have a phobia and 2. I knew that I couldn't afford the work I needed, I broke down and called a dentist in mid-September of 2015. I was expecting that I would need to have a combination of bridges, fillings, possibly partials, but wasn't really expecting to be told that I need full uppers and lowers. But that was the result.

Luckily I have been able to save money over the last couple years and went in with the mindset that if the work that was needed would be covered by that ($10,000) that I would move forward immediately. I was quoted $8088 for everything.

I then booked my appointment for my first round of extractions, the remaining molars on the right side, a week later the remaining molars on the left side in early October. I then had to wait about a month for healing to do the impressions, try ins, ect. On December 18, I had my remaining teeth pulled and immediate dentures installed.

I have been back for several adjustments, and now 2 1/2 weeks later I am doing pretty good. I started using  a small amount of adhesive after two weeks for the lowers, the uppers fit well without any adhesive.

The dentist(s) I went to for this have been great. Very nice, friendly and helpful. They have fit me into their schedule on a moments notice every time I have called for an adjustment, even when their schedule was booked solid or short staffed. I picked the right place to go.

My main challenge now is eating more solid foods. I'm taking it slow and since the latest adjustment just two days ago am able to try to chew anyway and each attempt has better results that the last.

This forum has been very helpful for me. I've been visiting daily and now that I can see some light at the end of the tunnel I am hoping that I will be able to help others who may be have issues.

Good Luck with your denture journey! I have had my extrations and temporaries since Oct. 23, 2015. I am having some issues, but as long as I have so e EZO cushions and my extra denture container with me, I do okay. I just need to start setting eealignment appointments soo er than every 30 days. I really need to set appointme ts up, so I can have a relignment done every 14 to 21 days. Especially since adhesives are not the best thing for me to use, since I have a reaction from them.

Meredith, we are sorry to hear you have a reaction when you try to use denture adhesive. Do you know if it is a particular ingredient that you can't use or what the specific issues is with cream or powders? TY!

So Gina I'm month in on having my immediate dentures and I must say things are going well. I went in for a relign on my upper and lower denture. They also did some shaving and adjustments so my dentures would fit better since my gums have been shrinking. I can eat food but my dentist said to take it easy because my left side was swollen because of all the chewing I was doing and I'm not quite healed yet. So I'm going back to the soft foods like yogurt and apple sauce and soups and macaroni. Maybe I'll lose more weight in the process. Lol. Anyways. Best of luck to u

Thanks Lizzy! I'm doing ok. I'm going to be looking into a soft reline soon. My daughter has an appointment for fillings next week with the same dentist that I go to so I am going to set something up then. When I wasn't using adhesive the first two weeks I would just call and they would fit me in, but now that I am using adhesive I prefer to get an early morning appointment so I don't have to try to go through part of the day (at work) with my  teeth slipping.

Eating has been very challenging for me. I haven't pushed it too much, but my dentist was very up front with me from the beginning that it would take time and that in my particular situation, eating things like steak (without cutting it into tiny pieces) would probably not work for me. I generally don't eat steak anyway so I am ok with that.

As for weight -- I lost 10 pounds after my first two extraction appointments in October when my molars were pulled, and have lost about 15 pounds since I had my remaining teeth and immediate dentures inserted on December 18. I'm ok with that since I have been working on losing weight anyway.

Hang in there!

It sure is gonna take time for the eating. I don't eat steak either but like sandwiches and things like that I've tried and I have to cut them in pieces. Apples also. I love fruit so I cut them in small pieces any way cuz I makeike a mini fruit bowl. I loved chewing gum and the only gum I can chew is freedent. I've only seen it at Walmart. But for some reason I'm chewing weird and I always wanna swallow my gum. I think I have to just keep practicing. Like I said good luck to u.

A very special thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop and share about their positive experiences. It helps as much as the challenges we are facing. Welcome to the denture family and you can expect a lot of shared experiences, issues, and help! Thanks again. :)

So I took my daughter in today for her fillings and made an appointment for Friday morNing to see if it's time for a soft reline. I did find out if they do one there is no charge. I'm very happy they were able to get me in so quick. They actually offered to find me a room so they could take a look today, but I declined. Not sure I can handle having them removed without being over top of a sink because of the adhesive. Lol.

On a side note..... I ordered a box of the clean it wipes and received them today so used them for the first time today. I didn't think they were going to work at first but they actually did work pretty good to remove adhesive. Much better tHan paper towels.
