So I just bought a few things from the store and I got Poligrip Powder and also got poligrip strips.  I tried the strips and did not like them at all.  or maybe i was putting them on backwards  lol  anyways... I tried the powder and I must say it worked great! Since my guns aren't healed yet and I can;t use adhesives this powder is great.  without the powder my dentures on top fall out when i talk and thats embarrassing! lol  Anyways great product by far

I'm in your camp on the powder as well. It holds all day. It doesn't get the slimy squishy goop buildup that you get with paste adhesives and clean up is a breeze. I've retired all of my nasty pastes.

It has been 3 weeks since I had 27 teeth (or pieces) removed and an immediate upper and lower placed. I'm still using the powders fixadent and/or polygrip most of the time. They used fixadent powder when they placed the dentures, so I figured it would be ok to keep using it. I've read about problems with the zinc in fixadent, if you use too much. Polygrip doesn't contain zinc so it is what I use most. They both seem to hold pretty well until I eat or drink. My mountain dew floats the bottom right loose and I'm still eating mostly oatmeal and soups the hot liquid makes them turn loose. I probably have more trouble than most since I had so many teeth extracted at once and it was all guess work on what my gums were going to do as they heal. I got the package deal from affordable dentures which includes a reline and a new permanent denture. I don't want to rush the reline as I will have to live with it for a year until I get the permanent dentures.

I have used the paste a couple of times and it does seem to hold better, but if food gets under my dentures it is harder to clean up. With the powders I just pop my teeth out rinse my teeth and my mouth, re-apply the powder and pop 'em back in. The paste is harder to clean up. Its a trade-off I guess.

Iam getting used too the fixodent now don't apply as much and find most of the goo is on the denture and not in my Gob thank the Lord. . If I don't wear fixodent lizzy I can see my denture flying out my mouth and landing on a customers fish and chips how funny that would be haha x

Mags, you have my interest piqued. What foods are you referring to above? (Speak English would ya? LMBO! I absolutely had to say it ;-) )

I live in the States and I believe Chips are similar to fries, but not sure of others.

Keep Smiling!

Y'all sure do Ken! But the BIG question is - do you drink soda or Coke? And if it's Coke, is it a Pepsi Coke or what? ;-)

I have a lot of family in Hendersonville, I used to spend a lot of time down there many moons ago. Haven't been back since my cousins husband passed away.

I think I've discovered the answer to several questions I've had, such as why everyone else seemed to have trouble getting their immediates out and having pain days after I did and why my teeth worked loose as soon as I ate or drank anything. I decided that since they didn't want to do a reline for another month or two, I would try one of the do-it-yourself soft reline kits. The first time I mixed too slow and the material set before I got it spread (kinda like cake icing). I bit down on it but it didn't shape right.  so I peeled it out and used the other pack. Here is a picture of how it turned out. It only made contact in the front and 2 points in the back.

Notice the gap down both sides. Since I needed another kit so I could do the bottoms, I used a second pack to try and add to my upper to fill in. Even that didn't fill it in completely. I guess I talked so much they over estimated the size of my mouth! LOL

LMAO! We love you Mags!

This is definitely an American thing as to what the different regions call soda pop and snack foods.

Like in Ken"s area if he went to a restaurant or friends house and asked for a Coke, they wouldn't know what he wanted. Whereas in Michigan if I were in the same situation and said I wanted a Coke they would bring me a Coca-Cola. (How'd I do Ken? )

Here is a link to a fun little map and I think there is more than soft-drinks.

Ken do they still make RC? And you didn't say what part of Tennessee you are from.

I'm from Sweetwater - Its between Knoxville and Chattanooga. Yes we still have RC down here anyway. By the way you did good. Down here if I say I want a coke they say "We have Pepsi..." and I say "good enough. I went to New York once and asked for a sweet tea, and the waitress said she said "You're from the South aren't you?" And Mags she is right, I meant no offence. We pick on each other too. Even in the U.S. each area has terms that are strange in other areas. Americans have enough trouble understanding me. I'm from an area where we are known as rednecks or hillbillies. Southeast USA. But please don't think we are like the Beverly Hillbillies...well maybe some of us are. LOL

Update on my do-it-yourself soft reline:

After adding a second pack of the reline material to the upper and putting one in the lower, the top still wasn't full, but felt a lot more comfortable. The bottom filled in quite nicely, but I still needed powder adhesive for upper and lower. I glued them in and had breakfast: Sausage, biscuits (not cookies) and gravy, and eggs over easy. I didn't bite sausage off, but was able to chew everything just fine. My only problem now is my upper won't come out. LOL My lower came out when I pried it loose. I think I'll leave them in till after church, then try again to get them out for cleaning.

You know another thing about the U.S. I don't understand is that I live in Michigan (Mid-Michigan to be specific) and we are considered the Midwest, but take a ruler and draw a straight line to the middle of our country and there is Tennessee and y'all are Southeast.

Strange to me.

And with the Redneck explaining why they are called Hillbillies/Rednecks; in Michigan we have the Upper Peninsula and they are referred to as Yoopers, and those of us in the Lower Peninsula (or theI mitten) are referred to as Trolls, since we live "below" the bridge!

Just a little fun fact from Michigan!

Thank you Lizzy! I fought the fight but now I'm being attacked by others -called a bigot and racist.

I didn't come in here to have to fight every day against some pushy bully that can't answer a couple of legit questions . And now I have Sharon coming along saying such nasty hurtful things to me.

I hope that you, Mags, and Ken will keep in touch!

I got my teeth out, but they won't be falling out on their own. I had to apply pressure and kinda rock them till they let go. No wonder they came loose so easy before. My gums fall just outside the arch for the roof of my mouth, with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap down each side on the outside. They left plenty of room for swelling. I think if I can get a couple of weeks out of the home reline kit I'll see about a hard reline, or I might try doing a couple more soft relines at home first. At least with the soft reline I can eat a lot more solid food. I ate a sandwich for lunch today, but I still had to tear it off. I still can't put much pressure on my front teeth to bite it off..

Lizzy I lived in San Antonio for 2 years in the eighties.I miss fajitas from Taco Cabana. Up here fajitas are a big sit down meal. Its hard for people here to believe you can get them from a drive through.  If Texas was about where Georgia is, I'd probably still be there. I'm glad we can make you laugh. We might as well make the most of this thing we're going through.

Alicia I hadn't thought about it in a long time but the Texans called me a Yankee! They called anyone not from Texas a Yankee.

What, Lizzy? Are you not even gonna correct me? I figured you would say "no we don't call ya'll yankees Its @#$% Yankee! LOL  I'm just glad to be able to eat something besides oatmeal or soup! Oh, it was a ham, turkey and cheese sandwich with about 5 thin slices of ham 5 thin slices of turkey and 2 slices of cheese. Maybe that's why I had to tear it off. I was feeling like Superman after the sausage I ate for breakfast, but that sandwich must have had kryptonite in it. Once I tore it off and got it in my mouth I managed to chew it pretty good though. It won the battle but it didn't win the war.

Sorry about the double post earlier... not really sure where that came from. I tried to delete one of them, and tried to edit it. I lived in San Antonio for 3 years, not 2. My cousin and I installed storm windows and doors as well as vinyl siding. We did a lot of work in Austin and a little in Corpus Cristi

I think I'm just a few days ahead of you in this journey. Its been 3 weeks and 3 days for me. You hang in there too. It DOES get better. After using the soft lining kit I realize that with a proper reline and a good fit, this IS possible. The reason we're having so much trouble now is that our dentures don't fit our gums or is it that our gums don't fit the dentures?
