Now that I got them to fit like I want, I’ve got irritation and all these little bumps on the roof of my mouth. My wife thinks its thrush. Any good remedies for this?

Rinse with hydrogen peroxide, and eat yogurt. The peroxide will kill the candida and the yogurt will restore the natural bacteria that might have become unbalanced due to all the anti bacterial precautions that I'm sure were taken during your dental surgery and healing process

I had thrush on my tongue because of the antibiotics I was taking after surgery. It was fairly mild but the oral surgeon prescribed a lozenge that I dissolved in my mouth 5 times a day for a little over a week. Honestly it cleared up pretty quickly so I probably didn’t need it that long, but wanted to avoid recurrence. I also ate yogurt and took a good probiotic daily, which I believe helped it clear up as quickly has it did. I’m still taking a daily probiotic to help keep the balance of good bacteria and I eat yogurt most days anyway. Supposedly, swishing coconut is another option, but I can’t speak to how effective it is. Might be worth a shot.

Hey Chucky, all the suggestions above are great. Put some Kefir in your smoothies if you're still making them. Salt water helps as well. Hope you're feeling better today.

Josie, do you know if coconut oil rinses works for thrush (or any other benefits it might have)? When I had thrush I was considering it but everything else I was doing seemed to be working. Wondering if, in your opinion, it would be a decent alternative should it pop up again.

I know coconut oil is "supposed" to be good for oral rinses. I've never tried it yet but I have been using it on my face as a moisturizer lol for the last 3 or 4 yrs. I think anything natural is worth a try before running to pharmaceuticals. That's my opinion. I try very hard to try home remedies 1st and the Doctor 2nd. Sorry this may have not been much help. :)

Hahaha I’ve also used it as a moisturizer and I use it in my hair periodically too! I think you’re right. If I see any symptoms start to put up, I’ll just give it a try. The worst thing that could happen is it doesn’t work, but it certainly couldn’t be harmful

I used  coconut oil rinses in my mouth to fight off dental abscesses.  It worked!  It worked better than hydrogen peroxide and surprisingly, better than Listerine.  I was always amazed by that.  But I was also eating raw garlic, (which I chopped up and let sit for 10 minutes), and when garlic is prepared that way, it's stronger than penicillin.  So I can't be sure how much of my success was the coconut oil.  But the garlic worked faster when I used the coconut oil rinses.

I’m doing salt water still. Plus my wife is making apple cider vinegar/lemon/ cinnamon/ and other stuff tea. It actually takes away the irritation. I will be going in tomorrow at 4. The dentist wants to look and do a cancer screening...

No smoothies anymore. And I don’t know what kefir is. Sounds like an animal

Oh that's a yummy tea concoction. Good to get a cancer screening done but I wouldn't worry about it. HAHAHA! I used to think the same when I heard the word Kefir. It's liquid and you can get it in flavors as well. I've never tried it on it's own as I hear it tastes a bit on the sour side. I don't like sour things. Anywayysssss it's supposed to be better than yogurt. Here's a link....

Thanks. I will try anything to help. Just wish I knew the cause. I keep to a very strict cleaning schedule, and since I started adhesive nothing has been getting under them. Just want to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Oh and Vita Mft are pretty strong teeth for posteriors so check if they can use that brand as well. Posterior denture teeth are rare to break but we used a brand in the past and it happened a couple of times so the Vita Mft has been a success.

Have a good time. And no, they have never did anything for fit on the lowers. The flanges on the cheek side are pretty short, and there is miles of space on each side of my gums. Is there a reason the partial can’t have a reline?
Photo of Josie

Josie

  • 1533 Posts
  • 553 Reply Likes
There is no reason why a Reline can not be done. It's just like a full denture but less teeth and material. I'll try and make this a short story....lol. an actual hard Reline is taking new impressions of your mouth and impressions poured into models. Then it's articulated. Then trimming several millimeters of acrylic out of the interior of the denture amd then roughed up. New acrylic is placed and while it's wet it's pushed down onto your model accurately into place and excess acrylic gushes out. Once it's set any excess or "fringe " is trimmed, pumiced and polished so there are no rough spots and looks like new. It takes almost a whole day because of the models settling, the work that needs to be done and the setting of the wet acrylic.

Soft reline as you know is chairside and temporary material and excess material trimmed away, pumiced and polished on the spot. Relines can even be done on Cast Partials only where the pink acrylic is. So I don't get it??!!! Oh question.. The temp Reline you got on the upper...did they trim the temp material out a bit where your extractions are? Hope that makes sense.

Thanks! I moved to cottage country 12 yrs ago. Approx 300 small lakes in the area. My friend bought a house with 7 acres and a river is at the end about an acre from her house. We drove down a path they cleared ...climbed down about 20ft cliff and sat on muskoka chairs that she put dowm there woth our feet in tge water. Not another human in sight! Such a beauty and peaceful. It's a resale and needs some work but they did good. Their hopes are building a cabin right by the cliff where the river is some day. Our next plan is to do a river run as she's already done it with her cousins. :)

Lol. Okay so there should be a little bit trimmed away so that your gums can be healing properly at the extraction sites. Try and have a look and see if your gums seem to be healing in a flat way and not like a crater like way.

Lol awe. When you go in next ask them if they've trimmed in the extraction areas at all to let your gums heal. One reason is if there's too much material it will push down on the spots and will heal kinds of like holes. Or if you take a good close up pic and post it on here I may be able to see if they've done that. Pics are not always the greatest as in person but sometimes can help. Yes it will kind of make the spots like little air pockets but better for your gums to heal.

That’s good. I seem to have gotten over the virus I had. Still doing the mouth wash. Over all I feel good. Maybe a new liner next Thursday, at least I hope. If they do the partial I would be happy, but so far I haven’t been able to convince them it needs it. They said I would do better to have no liner and use no adhesive with it. Just let it float. All that does is make a bunch of sore spots. So I may have to deal with it until around November

Nah. Don't be a worry wart. The stress might make it worse. An Oral Surgeon will probably be able to detect the symptoms as they have more education in the field and might prescribe you something stronger. I know one popular med over here is Amoxocyllin 500mg. I think there's another popular one but can't think of the name. Being at a Denture Clinic we don't prescribe as we can only work above the gum line.

Ugggh. Hopefully you asked how much it would cost and it's not a lot. I had some kind of white spots on my cheeks and there wasn't a big concern from my Dentist. My hygienist said the toothpaste I use may have too much sodium lauryl sulfate which is basically like a bleach in toothpaste. I also have a bad habit of biting my cheeks when I eat. lol Seems to happen when my weight fluctuates which is most of the time. haha.

Talking about potential biopsy, lab work, etc. they wouldn’t give an estimate, but in the US I have no doubt it would cost thousands of dollars. I just need to find someone who takes my insurance. Don’t want to pay a lot for something that could be adhesive irritation.
I should be able to tell sometime tonight. I’m not using anything right now. I also don’t feel any irritation.

If you don't have any big plans this weekend and will be around your home don't wear adhesive and actually give your mouth a break and don't wear your teeth for awhile and see what happens. Yea it will probably cost soooo much for those kind of tests. I wouldn't book yet. I honestly don't think it's something serious as it's too coincidental that it's happening shortly after extractions, dentures and using goop.

It's probably the goop. Let's blame it on that.

Have you gone to your family dr for a check up lately? Do you have to pay for a check up?

Lol, in the states we have to pay for everything. And yes, I’ve been to the general doctor 3 times since my surgery

I was wondering when the infections started in relation to your dental work.  I don't know when you got your dentures.  Drinking echinacea tea has helped me with infections, and also I swear by raw garlic.  Hoping for your good health!!

Ok. I had my extractions and immediates on 5/2. Actually had tremendous sinus relief right after. Probably a week later I had a sinus infection. Right after that I had a respiratory infection. After that another sinus infection. Then, a few weeks ago what the dentist said was some type of virus leading to the lesions in my mouth.
My wife is big on home remedies too. I have drank countless herbal concoctions, taken garlic pills, and who knows what else. It’s been a tough few months. I just feel like my immune system is down.

Thanks for the details. My reaction to what you explained is that getting dentures is a bit of a trauma, especially considering the extractions, and maybe it did strain your immune system.  Even though I'm grateful for modern dentistry, this has been a jolt for me, lol.  Considering how rattled I feel, I can imagine my body taking a wallop from this.  In fact, I've been having some light dizziness.   I hope you feel better asap!!!

Yeah, personally I've cured things by reading the stories of other people who have my symptoms.  Have a good day full of good health!
