Hi Martha I have had my dentures for 18 months yes u can redo the adhesive: If your like me you probaly got some really inspensive dentures since there so unaffordable . I had relined my twice now myself I used perma soft Amazon has it for 24.00 . I also buy secure adhesive from there also it works the best either the strips or the cream if u call the company they will send u a free sample off the strips. Our gums get smaller and smaller so the plate becomes very lose. Also the more u drink that also makes them lose . That's the great thing about the secure it's drink proof ( water prof) lol .
I hope this helps u some. Dentures are terrible. But I'm happy I have them. I was a nurse with no dental insurance so I brushed all the enamel off my teeth thinking I was really cleaning them good. They don't teach U about teeth in nursing school . Hang in there

I think the concern with applying more than once is if the denture adhesive has zinc in it. But they make them now without that. Even the Secure mentioned by Pam now has one without Zinc. I have read that Zinc is what makes the denture stick. I also use the PermaSoft  mentioned by Pam, but that is not an adhesive. It is an actual denture reliner and it is very good. I find that the denture adhesives don't adhere very well on the bottom. I thought maybe it was because of whatever the PermaSoft is made of, but I don't know that. I apply adhesive to my bottoms but it doesn't hold up very long once I drink or eat.

Reapply as often as you need to.  However, if you find that you are needing to reapply adhesive frequently, it is probably an indication that your dentures are no longer fitting properly.  You may need a reline.

I use Fixodent Original daily.  It is one of the few adhesive creams on the market that still have zinc in it.  Fixodent also says to only apply once per day.  My dentist tells me that this is because of the zinc content.

I find that adhesive with zinc holds better and for longer than products without zinc. (I have not tried Secure yet.)

From everything I've heard and read, the "zinc scare" has been really over-hyped.  It is similar to the reason there is now children's toothpaste.  A concern was raised that, if a child "ate" a full tube of regular toothpaste, then they may consume dangerous doses of fluoride.  The same type of scare has been circulated about zinc.

To put Fixodent with zinc into perspective, according to Fixodent's web site, their research indicates that the average Fixodent user absorbs about 2mg of zinc per day.  Last I checked, the recommended daily allowance for men is 11mg.  So, even if you reapply a couple of times AND eat a diet containing zinc, you are still in "normal" parameters.

So, I don't worry at all about zinc.  Even the multi-vitamin that I take contains zinc.

Edit:  I just double-checked.  According to WebMD, the dietary allowance for zinc is 11 mg per day for adult men and 8 mg per day for women (unless the woman is pregnant).

Hi .. I didn't no about that "zinc" thing . and its been 6 years and now my tops are looser I have to fix them all day. If I am out via the NY transit system . I have to bring a dry cloth in my purse with the fixodent ( superior hold I use). If I drink coffee while I'm on the ferry or train I have tostop in a public rest room and hide to reapply this stuff. I hate it but have no choice.. As for the zinc content I hope I don't get sick from it ????

Could I ask a question in here please?  I don't have a full denture on the bottom, (though I almost should since so few teeth are left) but I have a partial with a metal frame(?).  I bought the Secure adhesive, the denture wash and the adhesive strips.  I showed some of it to my dentist the other day (which he encouraged me to try since he had never heard of the brand, and would like me to be the guinea pig so if it works good he can tell his other patients about it...LOL) but he asked if I could use the strips on the metal frame.  Does anyone know?  Also, I started using the denture soak on the upper denture and lower partial.  It seemed like when I started to use it, the soft liners in both seemed to be drying up really fast.  I know I read about not using the cream with a soft liner, but could the soak also affect the liners?
If anyone knows anything about either of these, I sure would appreciate your knowledge.
Thanks y'all!  (heading back to Texas for Christmas, so I have to get my Texan speak calibrated...LOL)

You need to get some cushion comfort ez.  It is not cushion guip but its the best I have found fornow.  I use it in my bottom plate.  If it works in it , it will work in top denture.

I use Polident because it does not have zinc.  The directions say apply in strips of adhesive but I find if I start on one side and do one continuous strip all the way around, my bottom stays in all day no problem.
