Went to the dentist today to demand that they trim my palate.  Surprise - when I brought it up, my lovely dentist said, "Of course we can do that".  So, now that problem is much better and the space where there was a huge gap between my denture and the back of my bottom gum has been fixed too.  But, the best part - we made an appointment for June 10th to start the process for permanents!!!!  All because I said my goal was to have perms by my birthday in July.  Psyched!

Hope that works for me on Thursday. Lynn, were they able to make the palate portion of the plate smaller? That hunk of plastic is really getting to me. I am not getting used to it and it is cutting into my palate.

Yes, they trimmed the palate, not a lot, but some.  For the first time this morning, I did not gag when I put my teeth in.

The no gag has held!  And, I finally found an adhesive for the bottom that really works for me - Fixodent Ultra.  That stuff holds all day long and it almost takes a jack hammer to get my teeth out.  It has also help me with eating.  Before, every single time I ate lunch, my bottoms would pop loose.  Not any more.  Today I had my first roast beef sandwich (deli beef thin sliced) on soft white bread with mayo, and potato chips and everything stayed where it was supposed to.  My first roast beef sand in over two years because I could not chew at all (no molars).

Congratulations on the dentist visit working out so well. What I have done in I am 61 soon-to-be 62 and had Dentures since I was 25, I take an acrylic fingernail file and just lightly file the areas were I get sore spots or the opposite side of the sore spot and if you think about that it will make sense to you. But I will just ever so lightly work on them and including the back portion of my palate because I too had an awful gag problem. Now it's a non-issue and I only went to the dentist twice for adjustments. I've had this set of Dentures for 35 years but they don't make them like that anymore this is made of porcelain and of course my gums have shrunk back but in the meantime I found a great product called cushion grip that helps fill in that space and it adds a soft layer for my gums to compress for eating. Best of luck to you once you get this going well you're going to be very happy but just remember the bottoms will always be an issue for you that's just a given with this.
