New day, new post.... approximately 80 hours in

So today was interesting. Saw my sister and her kids for the first time. The kids, who I expected to be brutally honest, had absolutely nothing to say about the way my new teeth look. I’m going to chalk that up as a win. My sister told me my smile was so cute, even though I feel like it’s toothy and gummy and unnatural looking (and to which my boyfriend says I need to get out of my own head). I took as stab at actual chewing and “successfully” ate some ramen noodles. It was awkward as all hell, my mouth isn’t entirely sure what to do yet (any tips are welcome!!) but it felt good to have something semi-solid in my tummy. I also applied for a new job today. Within 2 hours (no joke) I got a call for an interview. I handled the call quite well, I actually surprised myself! We scheduled for next Friday. Hopefully that’ll give me some time to not only prepare mentally for an interview, but also to keep practicing my speech and soon-to-be winning smile. I’d be lying if I said I’m not kicking myself in the behind for applying to a new job while I’m still in the path to recovery.... but hey, maybe it’ll mean another new beginning. Another stepping stone to a new and improved, healthier me.

I’d like to also take the opportunity to again thank all of those who have chimed in with words of encouragement and support, with tips and tricks, with word of wisdom, and tales of their own. It means the world to me to have found such a kind group of folks doing what they can to support and care for one another. I’d like to encourage those who may just be starting out in this journey, or who are maybe just quietly reading other’s stories, please reach out if you need help, or advice, or simply need to vent. It’s astonishing how helpful it can be to just simply write it out.

I truly hope each and every one of you are having a great day and I look forward to continue sharing my journey with you all.

Ohmyword30 such a great post and good to hear! You are an inspiration to many on here I'm sure. Glad to hear you're having a somewhat good experience on this new journey. Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, protein smoothies, meatloaf, pasta (small noodles), soups to name a few...well may be more then a few will help keep your health on track. Maybe trying Tic Tacs will help distract you and get more "used" to your new teeth. Your family sounds awesome and yes sometimes one feels to appear toothy and gummy but it can be in your head or also true at the time but will change as your gums recede. Glad to hear your positivity and a great support group. You go girl! :)

Thanks Josie! I like the tic tac idea. Give my tongue something to do while it gets reacquainted with the new setup! That seemed to be my biggest issue trying to chew... my tongue doesn’t know what to do, where to push the food and likewise I can really feel where the food actually is. I’m sure with practice that will improve

Yes girl it will improve with time. Your patience will be tested so please remember that. Singing and talking aloud like you're doing will definitely help. You have to relearn how to chew again and with that the tongue is going crazzaaaay wondering what's in my mouth??!! The Tic Tacs doesn't help everyone but it's small enough that hopefully it will give you some distraction. You might be salivating a lot as well that will go with time. Just keep trying to stay as positive as you can and most of us never lean on someone so keep accepting the support you're getting. You deserve it! :)

I’m very grateful for the support I have here and at home. My peeps are my rock steady and have been unbelievable. I’ve had some tears over the last few days but My boyfriend is right there in my corner getting me through it. I’m one lucky duckling. Speaking of boyfriend, I asked him to pick me up a box of tic tacs on his way home tonight, I’m curious to see if it will help. Thank you so much for the suggestion! So far I haven’t had a problem with salivating, but the corners of my mouth got pretty raw and my lower lip went and got nice and chapped on me. I’ve been smearing a good hydrating lip balm on them like it’s my job and it’s improving thank goodness! Another first happened just now! I sneezed for the first time with these dentures! I was dreading that to be honest. I had this awful picture in my head that, just like in the cartoons, my teeth would come flying out of my mouth and land in some strangers lap or something lol pleasantly surprised that it was no different than a pre-denture sneeze. Kind of made my night actually.

Great attitude, ohmyword30, and Josie will always be helpful. It's nice to hear positive posts, because, let's face it, this can be a very trying experience, but staying positive and focused is half the battle. Every day is a new day with dentures, some good some bad , and some just meh, what's bad today may be better tomorrow. Next month I start my permanent process, and I feel excited but I feel like I'll be starting over, but hey it's progress. Good to hear you have a great support system, that helps a lot.
Have a fantastic day.

Thanks Lisa! You’re absolutely right, every day is different. This morning for example was rough. When I went to put the dentures in it was pretty painful. the uppers hurt so bad in the front way up high on my gums where they end. It felt like they were digging into my gums. The bottoms hurt right on that little bit of tissue where the lower lip connects to the gum. I have a visible sore there. I was instantly annoyed and frustrated because they had literally done adjustments yesterday morning! But within a minute or so, the uppers didn’t hurt anymore and I applied some numbing cream (okayed by my dentist) on the lower sore spot. It’s felt fine since. I just ate up some scrambled eggs which felt like a nice little mile stone and my mood is much better. I’ve been hanging out with my mom today, just talking and that’s been nice too. I called my dentist office this morning. They’re closed today but scheduled me an adjustment for early Monday morning. Hopefully I can manage it over the weekend. Just got to take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time.

Congratulations on starting the permanents process! I’m sure it’ll be another adjustment period with annoyances and frustrations, but just like the first time around, you’ll overcome the obstacles and love your smile even more.

Thanks Lisa, though not always easy, I try to roll with the punches. Because what’s the alternative? Wallowing in self pity? Ain’t nobody got time for that!
