New dentures-making me feel worse about myself

I had all my teeth removed and immediate dentures put in on 8/31. I dont even know where to begin. Trying to keep the uppers in my mouth has been nearly impossible. I'm not sure, but are the uppers supposed to make your upper lip stick out? And there's a huge gap between gums and denture on the top as well. The bottoms, yeah right. I got ulcers from them sliding all over the place when they put them in after the extractions and the pain is too much to handle to even wear them.
A process that was supposed to make me feel better about myself has made me feel worse, because now instead of hideous teeth in my mouth, I have bloody, deformed looking gums. I cry myself to sleep every night. I only had 5 teeth left on the bottom so the bone loss is huge. They told me I needed implants, but at $3500 a piece that just wasn't even an option. I talk with a horrible lisp. My job requires me to talk all day every day, thats been a huge challenge. If I take the dentures out to talk/work, well, you already know how someone sounds with no teeth.....I am sooooo embarrassed I'm just a mess! The dentist is doing a soft relighn on 10/9, but thats a month away. I'm starting to feel like my hideous teeth were a better deal.....at least I could talk and EAT!!!!! I feel like non of my family, friends or co workers can even begin to understand what i an going through!!

It does get easier .. my upper lip stuck out aswell as the dentures got too big after the swelling etc went down and i ended up having them shaved down a bit to fit. Im 6 months out on lowers and 3 months on uppers. Still have problems but i know that soon it will be all smooth sailing. I spent alot of time with them out of my mouth and have learnt to talk fairly well without them in. Once your gums heal use an adhesive to keep ur uppers in place until you get your reline.

Oh Mary Lee I'm right there with ya girl had 20 teeth taken out last Tues upper and Lower, I did go with the implants on the bottom to keep them in, but the tops were just too expensive. I was told to take mine out 24 hrs after the extractions they put them in while I was all numb. I'm with you getting them back in A NIGHTMARE I too cried and cried if I did not have such bad teeth due to chronic pain and the Medes I take I would not have done it. I have not been able to put them back in except for yesterday I had to go to my granddaughters grandparents day show. Roughest hour of my life. I went to the pain dr toothless yesterday. I did buy some Benzodent numbing cream and that's helped a little little . I just want the pain to stop. I go to dentist Thursday to get the stitches out and I will see what he says . As far as eating with them. I can't see that far ahead I can hardly talk and I have so much saliva the bottoms are so loose the flop out if I talk the tops r tight if I can stand to put them up there!! I was told no adhesive for three months!!! And he won't he attaching the bottom for three months . So I hear here ya Mary I'm depressed as well :(

So sorry for your discomfort it is a nightmare and no easy way around it. The only hope is that it does get a little better with time. The upper lip will start to adjust to your dentures after the swelling goes down and may not look as bad. You probably notice it more than anyone else. As far as anyone understanding no one does unless they have dentures themselves - not even dentists since I would be shocked if a dentist actually has dentures. Most people do not realize how emotional it is and that's something we need to come to terms with. I'm not quite there yet but I do know that my teeth look better and I'm sure down the road you will love the look as well. It's a process that takes time. Good luck!!
