New here, tons of questions!

Hi everyone. I am new here and have tons of questions so bear with me! I am 3 weeks into my dentures and still have sores. Is this normal? They aren't painful, the only time I feel them is when I take the dentures out or put them in.

Also, the only adhesive I've found to hold the bottoms in for any length of time is fixodent maximum hold, however as soon as I start eating the come loose.  I am only able to chew soft food at this point, part of this is the dentures don't feel like they line up right.

Another question is is there a way to keep your mouth feeling fresh and clean?  My mouth feels pasty all the time I can't get it to go away.

I have had a problem in the past with clenching my teeth. I stopped doing it when I got the dentures, probably due to the pain, but now that the pain is subsiding I've noticed that I'm doing it again which is causing pain.  I don't know I'm doing it.  Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas on how to stop doing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm looking forward to being part of this community!

It is the Fixident causing the pasty feeling. Try Polygrip and others. I couldn't stand that pasty feeling.

I did try the polygrip, it was worse. Plus it was so goopy (for lack of a better term) when I took them out. I don't know if I'm using too much or what I'm doing wrong.  I did order secure from amazon because I read in this group that it works well. It will be here tomorrow. So fingers crossed.

I like Sea Bond. I alternate between using the sheets and the adhesive. Both are really easy to remove at the end of the day. Yet they also give a very good hold.

It'll take a while to get used to dentures.

If the adhesive is feeling goopy to you, you might be using too much.

What I learned several years ago is you will have to experiment with different products. You will find what works best for you. I can't use Poligrip, it is too gooey and Secure did not hold at all. If you use too much it's going to oose out from under your dentures and feel awful. Every time I put mine in I have to dig the adhesive out from around my dentures. I use Fixedent, Sea Bond for lower dentures an Fixedent powder. I also use a Denture Relining cushion stabilizer on my lowers. It has taken me along time to get this routine down for myself so have patients and good luck. Also DenSureFit works well too. The reclining cushion and the DenSureFit both have to be ordered.

Kathy Edwards you use all of that for your bottom to stay firm? I am having an awful time trying to figure out how to keep mine in while I eat too. I will try your routine and see if it works for me. I have give up and surrender to the restroom when I go out to eat and take my bottom teeth out just so I can eat and not be embarrassed as my bottom teeth come loose and fall out in front of who ever I'm with. Hahaha.

Yes i do all of it but my bottoms stay in all day. I have very little bottom gums and they had sores on them all the time. I couldnt get the dentist to build my dentures up the way i needed so i did it myself. They sat too low on my gums so i build them up and they fit good. I used to use Cushion Grip and it was the best but they stopped making it. Good luck with yours.

If you dentsures are rubbing your gums they are to loose and thats why you have sores, and why you clenching your teeth. You do it to hold in your teeth. You need to go back to your dentist and have an adjustment made. There is no product in a store that works. Try DenSureFit it is a sicone thats exacly like what they use for soft relines. I have been using it on my bottoms. You will get 4 time out of the tubes. Its esay to use. Watch the video. I have used it for a month.
So go back to
get densurefit.com
Poligrip tablest to soak you teeth. Wish mouth with listerine. Hope I answered all your questions.

Ur welcome I have tried it all so far densure fit is the best. Secure didnt work. But I pray it works for you. The dentist really should reline your dentures when ever there loose. You paid for dentures that fit. You shouldnt have to buy a bunch of stuff. I had to send my dentist a demand letter.

Good point. He told me it would take about 3 months for all the swelling and everything to go away, so thats why he suggested the reline at that point. But I will make an appt to see what he can do for me now. Thanks again!

I've only had my dentures 2 weeks (but had a partial prior to dentures for 4 years) and still have sore spots. I'm sure it's going to be a common occurrence until the gums are completely healed up. I only get sore spots where I've never had dentures. Can't answer on the adhesives since I haven't used any yet, looks like you got a few answers already though. I feel my dentures fit exceptionally well seeing how there isn't much I can't eat and that's without any adhesives and dentures aren't loose in my mouth either. Hopefully a soft reline will help you out.

Before dentures I clenched my teeth together too and still do it now, unknowingly. Haven't found a solution either.

Amber Im so happy that your doing well and your dentists fit. Most people have problems with them fitting. I think the clenching comes from having loose dentures. Your trying to keep them in. Then it becomes a habit. Ive had dentists since I was 15. Ive had 3 sets so far. This set fits terrible and they dont wont to help me. Any way if there still loose Cari try DenSureFit if the secure dont work. It has no smell and taste to it.

I am only one week In of having full mouth extractions and immediate dentures and I too am having issues with sore spots, I have went back to my dentist twice already for adjustments on these spots and it seems to work for a short while then the pain comes back. I have spend countless hours on youtube, here and google looking for advice or tips and all that i found was Benzodent so I ordered some online the other day but today while I was out and about i ended up finding it at my local grocery, so super excited about it.. I purchased it and went straight to my car to use it and was amazed right away. My dentures on bottom feel better then they have since day one, I cannot feel the sore spots and my comfort level has dramatically changed.

I bought a 4 way 'nail buffer' and have been 'adjusting' them myself, where the pain is. I think the brand is 360. I lightly file the area on denture, then smooth it, then buff it. I just bought 3 more of these '4 sided nail buffers' online. The pain from dentures digging into the mouth tissues is so unbearable. Glad you found something, I'm going to look for some of that now. ~ K

I am so sorry ... these things are so darn frustrating. Unless a dentist / prosthodontist has had to wear dentures, they have no clue how irritating they can be. Hugs to you. ~ Kim

Hi Cari I'm 10 months in with my upper plate, probably went back about 10 or 12 times for adjustments in the first few weeks because of rubbing. At 3 months she decided to do a hard reline and that was messed up the first time and they had to redo it. But it was a worse fit after the second time to the point when she put them in they fell out . So I told her I guess if I have to use adhesive for the rest of my life I'll have to use adhesive for the rest of my life. She said I probably would because she didn't know of anything else she could do for me.Now after this I was still having issues where I couldn't even eat a salad only soft foods. Then she did a little grinding on the right side on the teeth itself so I could chew. That worked for the chewing so now I can eat a few more things but still having issues when chewing on the right my teeth would pop on the left ( missing five bottom teeth on left side, need to get a partial) if I chewed on the left side towards the front they would pop on the right side. So I would use a little more adhesive which helped somewhat. I take them out every night and clean my gums, I no longer grind my teeth at night. I heard about Den Sure Fit and was going to order some but then I had a hemorrhage in my right eye and lost part of my vision, I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up. Fixodent just came out with an Ultra adhesive I started using that use less and it's working great. I'm able to chew quite a bit of different foods in the last 2 weeks since using this Ultra buy Fixodent. Once I get my vision better or back I will go ahead and order the Den sure Fit, I've read a lot of good things about that product and looking forward to using it.

I just found the best TOPICAL for any pain in the mouth ... It's called HURRICAINE ... Received it on Saturday. I got it from Amazon. They have a spray with an attachment so you can get it EXACTLY where needed. They also have a gel. I got the Spray. Just put the end of the 'straw like' attachment where it hurts, and lightly spray. Works instantly.

You're welcome. My dentist/prosthodontist used it on me the other day while he was 'trying' to rid some sore spots. As soon as I got home, I ordered it. I figured if the Dr. Offices use it, it must be good. I sprayed it on a 2x2 gauze pad, and placed the pad against the sore areas, also. That worked too, without getting my tongue too numb. OH IF ONLY WE WERE BORN WITH 3 SETS OF TEETH. ... This has been a 5 year nightmare for me. I lost 95% of my gums. Am in the process of having gum grafting done. My whole life revolves around my mouth. I only eat yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, instant mashed potatoes, and drink Ensure. Sorry for rambling, it's just nice to connect with someone who is going thru similar issues. Hugs hun ~ K

You're very welcome. I'm actually going to go and apply some now, so my 'mouth nerves' will calm down a bit. I need to get in some online 'game time'! I love to play Pachisi online, (it's like the game Trouble / Sorry), however when in pain, as you know, it's hard to focus and enjoy anything. I know it's a bit pricey, & I was hesitant at first, however I've spent more than that on 'other products combined', that did not work. Best Wishes, ~ K

First thing I will say is, its only been 3 weeks. Your mouth is healing and changing. I had my teeth out and immediate dentures on the top on march 26th. I just had to go in for an adjustment. She shaved off some of where it hit and instantly felt better. Sometimes a few ibuprofen help. I still can't bite into anything. Its getting better.
I have found incredible people at total freedom In Scottsdale. Everyone is awesome and very helpful. I have a dental phobia but not there. They were very honest and told me to skip the bottom dentures they are known for not fitting well. I decided I'll save my money and do the snap on dentures later this year.
I still had all my teeth pulled. My dentures on top are so awesome. Fit great. No one can really see my bottoms gums anyway so I deal with just top.
My daughter also got dentures top and bottom and within a couple weeks she said bottoms are a waste of money more problem then they are worth.
Since you and I are st the same healing rate feel free to keep in touch and ask me anything.

Thank you Lorrie. I got mine done on March 29th.  I only had 4 teeth left on the bottom and I've waited 7 years to be able to afford this so I was super excited. Now I am super frustrated.   I've had them adjusted once, which helped alot. My sores on top don't really hurt unless I put pressure on them, like Sharona said I think its because they are loose and rubbing.  My bottom is all healed but I can't keep the dentures in for any amount of time.   Making an appointment today to see if there is anything the dentist can do for me.

Just wanted to let you know, Cari ... you're not alone. Same thing here. I saved and saved and saved $, was so excited to finally get them, and it' been a nightmare. I feel for you, I truly do.
PLEASE go on Amazon, and get a 4 way buffer. It's brand is 360, and it had 4 sides to it. I adjust my own, in the area its hurting. Lower Bottom yesterday was on fire, I was able to lightly file the area away, then smooth and buff it. IT IS AMAZING WHAT WE CAN DO OURSELVES, SINCE WE KNOW WHERE THE PAIN EXACTLY IS. The dentists just can 'guess'. I have 3 of them. When one begins to wear out, I order another, because It Works Wonders.~ Kim

If you are three or four weeks into dentures you will find that your gums, particularly the lower gum, will have shrunk quite appreciably.  If you are having any sores or pain this is probably because your lower denture no longer fits your receeding gums.  You need a reline.  You can do this yourself.  I had not heard of DenSureFit when I was at your stage of transitioning to dentures.  There are other home reliners which are much cheaper. I now use Perma Soft which is long lasting so it is only suitable when your gums have fully healed and stabilized.

Your dentures are only going to feel fresh and clean if you do not use a conventional adhesive.  My recommendation is to try to do without an adhesive but then your dentures must fit really well.

Eating with dentures is difficult and it takes more than a few weeks to manage.  Again your gums have had to heal fully and your dentures need to fit well to maximize your ability to eat with dentures.  You will have to make some changes in how you eat but you should manage so do not despair.

I have no advice on how to stop grinding your teeth but it is not going to help preserving your gums if you continue to do it.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your advice. Been working long hours so haven't had a chance to respond.  The secure did not work.  Doesn't last any longer than the fixodent.

I work at an assisted living and my boss gave me a tube of "cushion grip". I have not used it since I've never heard of it. Since he gave it to me I've read all kinds of stuff about it. Its supposed to be awesome. The downfall is, they don't make it anymore. But I think I'm going to try it.  Maybe it can at least get me to my reline!

The only adhesive I have used is the benzodent on the sore spots and Poligrip which seems to hold for me pretty well, I just do not like what is left behind when I remove my denture, lots of goop and mess in my mouth that is difficult to remove.

Please try the dentsurefit. You can utube it and look at the videos or online. Its just line the soft relines. But better. No goop, smell or mess. I think Ive had them in now fot 7 weeks. The down fall is you cant brush your teeth. Just kidding. Lol Thought I would try and make you laugh. The price is $50.00 but think about how much you have spent already trying to find a product that works. They sent me 3 tubes the first time. Its easy to do but you get better at it. The best thing I learned is when you have your teeth out your gums get oxygen which causes them to swell. So do the reline after u have had your teeth out. The videos will give you a lot of advice. Its says for only top teeth but everone is using it on the bottoms. The only other product that works for me is fixodent fix. I tried the knew one and didnt like it.
