My husband just got his partials on Friday, his lower partial isn't giving him any problems but when he puts in the upper he has problems with gagging and not being able to keep it in to eat. Can anyone help with what to do?

Hi there! Sorry to hear your husband is having difficulty with his upper denture. It isn’t uncommon for upper dentures to cause a gag reflex. Sometimes it’s just a matter of having to adjust to the new denture, but other times the denture is too long in the back. Bulkiness can be an issue as well. If this is your husband’s final set of dentures and not temporary ones, you may want to call your dentist and make sure that there isn’t a way to make the denture fit better. Some people actually have the back portion of their upper denture shortened slightly to reduce their gagging. I hope this helps!

Thanks Stephanie. These are just temporary , but he is still having problems with the upper. When he went to the dentist Monday, they sort of fixed them however he still can't eat with the upper partial in. He has stopped gagging as much so I think that might have been part of the problem. Thanks for the advice
