New to top dentures tomorrow

I am sitting here reading all the comments on dentures.  I go in tomorrow morning to have six teeth pulled and a full top denture to go in right after.  After reading everything I am somewhat terrified.  I am also young in my late 30's but apparently bad teeth run in my family.  I thought I was doing the right thing ,but after reading some of the comments I am not to sure.  Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I just had 8 teeth pulled on Monday and I was terrified. I got some really good and positive advice from this group. Are you going to sleep or is your dentist using novicane. I was a nervous wreck. Since you don't have time to get a relaxation tape, if you can take some type of music and listen with ear plugs. There was a big window outside of my dentist office so I concentrated on the sky and birds, before I knew it , it was over, I went in at 2:30 and he was finished at 3:10. If you feel any pain at all raise your hand and let him know you need more novicane. Think positive and you will be okay, top dentures are much easier than lower dentures. Please follow your doctor's instructions after and good luck and remember just try and relax.

Hello, My dentist also just uses novicane, but he did write me a prescription for Xanax for anxiety and to help me relax.  Good idea on the ear plugs and music  that is one of my favorite thing to help me relax.  I hope you are doing good, and I will try that's for sure. Thank you for the help and advice.

Hi Michelle,
I know you are scared and that is understandable.  Tomorrow makes 2 weeks for me since I had 27 teeth pulled.  I have top and bottom immediate\ temporary dentures.  It is tuff for the first few days but my advice to you is to take the pain meds and take as much time as you can to heal before going anywhere.  I was off for an extra week.  I just went back to work yesterday and I'm doing good.  I am older than you are but I'm still working and I do still care what I look like.  Dentures are not for Sissys but it is worth it when you look in the mirror.  I haven't tried to eat anything solid yet.  Pudding and soup and jello and scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes or potatoe soup are filling and comfortable to eat.  Just be patient with yourself and know that it does get better.

Definitely listen to Shirley, take your meds as prescribed by the doctor at all times, this is very important because it controls your pain and keeps you under control, please be consistent. I had 8 teeth pulled on Monday and I am in pretty good shape because I listen to someone on this excellent site that told me even though you feel better do not discontinue your meds, when I did I was in more pain, I won't skip again.

How are you feeling now? Are you having any difficulties at all?  Hopefully not. :)

I am the Michelle that commented on your emotional pain post. Not to terribly but like I said in the other post I keep my pain meds in me.  The emotional pain is hard enough to deal with to compound it with physical pain.

Oh, yes, I know. I was really wondering how you are managing eating since you didn't mention that.

I haven't really tried to neat anything solid.  I didn't eat anything on Thursday after the procedure.  I had a very big lunch though. :) On Friday I made a couple of fruit smoothies sorta I don't put yogurt in mine I don't like it.  Then for supper I had french onion soup which was really good.  During the day I usually just eat/drink smoothies.  Then Saturday I had homemade bacon cheeseburger soup.  It was a little more difficult because it did have bigger pieces of meats.  This evening for supper I made homemade chicken and noodles with mash potatoes my(my daughter's favorite so I am going to give that a try.  Don't know how well it will work but it sure smells good.
