I'm on day no. 2 of my dentures, and discovered a great food that seems to work very well with the tentativeness of eating with these things: ravioli! Not only are they tasty, but they almost seem tailor-made for this ecxact situation! Try it! Just make sure they cool down a good bit, they'll go down like magic, without challenging your new dentures with all kinds of unpredictable shapes!

I'm a day 9 of full extraction with upper and lower plates and it is getting better. Honestly the first few days alI I could tolerate was broth soups. A few days before oral surgery I made different soups, stocked up on yogurt and pudding. Though yogurt is a part of my regular diet, it still wasn't sticking to my ribs. Day 3 the broths weren't holding me. Even my love of egg drop soup. Moved onto pan grilling boneless skinless chicken breast and thighs, each gallon freezer bag dedicated to specific spice/flavor. Next I used my "ultimate chopper" to puree meat to an almost paste-mush consistancy. WOW! I can eat this and it sticks to my stomach and it's flavorful!!!! Next I did the same with vegies. I call it ADULT BABY FOOD, but it works. Day 9, I can chew very small cut morsels very carefully. It gets better!

I have been eating mac and cheese and kind of swallowing it whole. I am almost two weeks in and i am still afraid to eat,, It is kind of weird getting used to. I actually ate a real dish of penne pasta .. its filling and if you really feel that you cant chew it you can swallow it kind of whole .. Hoping it gets better I am dying to eat a slice of pizza ., 7 lbs down maybe these things are the next big thing for weight loss. lol

I'm at 3 weeks and finally feeling better. Ate a lot of mashed potatoes with gravy and broth which were yummy. the first day ate alot of ice cream:). Also tried to drink powerade/gatorade to hydrate myself. Had some chicken pot pie, and mashed up the chicken into small pieces. Am going to get some mac and cheese, but have been dreaming of grilled hot dogs/bun and spaghetti with meat sauce. Just looking forward to the day when there is no pain/soreness and the full dentures do not feel like a foreign object in my mouth. :)
Hang on everyone, better times are coming. thanks for sharing. It has encouraged me.

I am so happy to have found this web site ~ there are so many great suggestions and tips!! Plus, it makes me feel a lot better to know there are so many great people going through the same thing I am!! I am only on Day 1 ~ had all my teeth extracted yesterday and dentures put right in. It is tough now but will be worth all the pain later. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Sounds like you are doing really well. I am at 1 month today and my gums are still a little sore, the warm salt rinses are helping with that.

I know how unpleasant the gagging is, Kelly. Gagging is a natural, protective function of the body, so it's not uncommon to experience a little gagging when you first get dentures (but it shouldn't be as bad as the impressions!). The gagging should definitely decrease as you get used to your new teeth - which I'm sure will look great!

Yes I gagged some the first night and some the next day. My dentist said if they make the gums sore try taking them out for 30 mins. at a time and let your gums heal . I was fortunate my gums healed fast after I had my teeth pulled. They didn't get sore until I left them end for about 12 hrs..
