New dentures and a really painful sore throat?

I'm on day 10 with new full top and bottom dentures and doing pretty well for the most part. (I'm hungry!) My question is can dentures make you have a really sore throat? I am on day 5 with an extremely sore throat and am not able to see my dentist until next week. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Dentures themselves should not make you have a sore throat. I would suggest some hot teas with honey added. Possibly gargle with warm salt water, or drink some chicken broth. Dentures can cause sore spots in between the gum line and lips. As well as the roof of the mouth. But dentures should by no means effect your throat. As far as eating goes, I got by with tons of Hamburger Helper, until I felt better. You can always get free support with Denture Support Groups where others have already voiced opinions on good foods to eat so you wont be so hungry. Also now that I have fake teeth ICE CREAM IS AWESOME!

Thank you for the reply. I can't/don't eat pasta so all of those options are out. I have found some soups I am enjoying and Ice cream is a great option as are smoothies. I made a dentist appointment for today. I think it may be from the top denture going too far back on the soft tissue in the back of my throat. I can barely swallow and can see some ulcer/irritation back there when I look. Ouch!

Cheryl,... I didn't experience a sore throat until I got my permanent dentures, some 6 months later... I told my dentist about my ''sore throat'', since I didn't feel ''sick'' at all... I don't remember what she did, but she adjusted my dentures and the sore throat went away... It is possible, and probably rare to get a sore throat, but a simple adjustment will help you a LOT. Call your dentist anytime you're UNCOMFORTABLE.... As far as ''soft foods'' during this time, there's mashed ''vegetables'', like peas, carrots, potatoes, beans and creamy soups are good too.. Ice cream, pudding, jello are easy too.. It will take some practice ''chewing'', but you'll try that soon, just cut things ''smaller''... I had ''Steak'' about 3 weeks afterwards for my Birthday... Good luck with your new teeth, it is a ''process'', and you'll learn more each day.... You'll love your beautiful smile too!

The lingual flanges posterially are too long. Ask your dental practitioner to shorten them.

My throat is sore too since I got my new dentures. I thought it was from a medication so I quit it and the problem continues so I've left the dentures out til I go to my dentist Tuesday. It's been about 3 days and I can still feel "swollen"(?) in the back of my throat and it's red and irritated so bad. Didn't have my dentures for a week lol but it's ok. It happens. Lol but good luck everyone and popsicles are amazing if you're hurting and wanna numb your throat.
