New upper denture gum goes high up under my lip - looks like cartoon character

Does anyone else have a problem with their new denture being so large in the gum area that it makes your top lip and above protrude? My son says I look like one of the characters from Dr. Seuss....... I notice it too. My nose is being pushed up with the denture..
Will this change once swelling goes down and when adjustments are made over the next few months?

Your problem may be solved once your swelling has gone done. If not, either your dentist or his lab can make your denture less thick so that your lip and the area under your nose don't protrude too much. I did not have this problem with my immediate denture, but I did have this problem in one of the try-ins for my interim denture. The lab made the adjustment and it's just fine.
I know it's hard to be patient. But, unfortunately, patience is what it takes to get your denture right.

I kindof have that problem, but dentist told me that if they did anything about that, it may loosen my upper more. Still having adjustment problems and I am sure it's going to take having going back many times until it is half way right. All I want to do is chew a steak!

Sounds to me like you need a better and more concerned dentist. The excess is on the exterior rather than the interior and removing it should not affect the fit. Keep after your dentist or find another one.

I also have this same problem and have been wondering the same thing. I actually posted on here asking something very similar. My dentist said it would go down but it hasn't and I have gotten several comments from people saying I look different and One person
Said I looked weird. She didn't mean anything by it as none of these people know what I've had done. I am not comfortable sharing that info with anyone really. Anyway I messaged my dentist and have been meaning to update my post bc he sent me to the lab and when I went in they immediately noticed some issues on of them being how far it pushed my lip out. They decided it was best to start all over from scratch with new impressions. The new impression that the lab took came out really well and I had a try in visit with wax the other day and it fits so much better. It still pushed my lip out a lot but he said ignore that bc it was only bc of the wax it had to be that thick in order to put the teeth In but with the immediate denture it will be thinned down and won't do that. He did also change the teeth which I did not like and asked to have the current ones I have which he was going to change that day and I'm hoping Monday I'll have my new one. A little nervous about what the teeth will look like as the ones he had in the wax were a different shape and shade and made me look older. Keeping my fingers crossed and prayers that this new one will be perfect looking or as good as it can be for an immediate where I don't look totally different. As well as uncomfortable bc the one I have now just doesn't fit right at least I know the new one does. It fit so much better it was night and day. Impression taking is the most important step and if it's done wrong it will throw off everything else. I hope you got this resolved and all
Went well. I'm replying 5 years later in case anyone else has this same issue. If you do than talk to your dentist bc it shouldn't be like that.

I’ve had mine for exactly 2 weeks today. I hated the way my top lip looked and just began to notice a big decrease in the past 2 days.

I was told they can't shave mine down anymore. I'd have to go in and cut out bone...

I have the same thing. I'm 1 month now and still hating the look, I've been told the same things .... blah blah blah. I'm trying to be patient but I feel like a chipmunk, it too pushes up into the base of my nostrils, can't blow my nose with them in. I feel like the dentist doesn't care.

I see that your post was made 6 yrs ago, so I doubt your still looking at this. I however also look like a whoo from The Grinch. The front of my denture gum line is not only up so high that my nose doesn't even look like mine but I also have at least 1/4 or an inch of denture gum pushing my lip out at least that far. I don't know if yours was taken care of. I hope so. I also hope someone can tell me this can be fixed. Thank you

I just had all my upper teeth pulled today and the temp denture put in. OMG the pain was worse than childbirth!  They couldn't put me to sleep b/c of a heart issue.  My face looks like a monkey : ( : ( and most of the swelling went down.  Is it possible for my dentist to file off some of the gum area of the denture?  I'm seeing him tomorrow morning, then back to work where I speak all day  : (  Also the oral surgeon did not use any adhesive today b/c he said it's bad for the open areas where the teeth were pulled, question is;  can my dentist add some tomorrow or will I have to wait???  Thanks so much!!!

I feel your pain Carol , in the same boat here , but i had upper and lower pulled 2 weeks ago I'm still having a difficult time talking , pain ,and  lots of drooling/gagging incidents  .Got my first soft reline... so awful tastes like nailpolish remover and mint and doesn't quit tasting like it for several days .  They won't adjust too much at a time  because they said your mouth structure will continue changing for at least a year , just keep going back and getting adjustments as often as you can

I hope they can do something to help. It so frustrating. I got my permanent dentures and Thank the good Lord they are great. I have a few minor adjustments, but over all I’m pleased.
I had many problems with my temp dentures. It takes time.

Lisa tell them to trim down the flange a bit. That will help it from going "up" your nose.

I had them thin it out with what they called a "hard" liner. I had to leave and come back about 3 hours later. But I'm still not satisfied with it. It's still puffy looking and not "me". I go in three weeks with a different dentist. I'll see what he says, but doubt it because they said anymore it'll be so thin it'll break. Other issues...too long to mention here, but i'll just say if that's going to be this way on my permanents, i'll get a refund.

Mine was more of the opposite.  The more my upper gums shrank, the higher under my nose the top went.  Got my dentist to trim it and it was fine.
