Pain and gum healing

Four days ago I had 6 top teeth pulled. No stiches. I immediately had the denture put in after the extractions. I was told by the dental assistant to wear the denture for 48 hours and then take them out for about an hour and put them back in. So, every morning I take them out for the hour and then replace them. Putting them back in is a little painful, and until they are in for about 2 or 3 minutes it eases up. I found that the hour without them is a relief. Is the dental assistant correct in having me put the denture in my mouth for this period of time, and will my gums heal ok. I was told this would be the procedure for a while until the healing is complete. I am also going to have a partial denture for the bottom and must go through impressions again. Not looking forward to that.

Hi Larry, immediate dentures act as a bandage and help control swelling, so it's normal to wear them continuously for the first 48 hours.
