Please make a product comparable to Cushion Grip

We have a special need for a product that Merk Lab has discontinued called Cushion Grip. They only sold the product at CVS and then complained it didn't sell enough. I used to go and buy up every tube they had. They started selling the 1oz tube for $3.99 when I was buying it then it went up to $7.99 which I thought was pretty expensive but I have to use it everythime I want to eat because my bottom gums are so sensitive. The plastic stays soft while you eat. Fixodent only tries to make the denture stay in place but does nothing for the cushioning. I bought Cushion Grip for $26.00 a tube and could no longer afford it. Right now on Amazon it is selling for $80.00 tube...4 for $255.00. I would say your marketing department should get on the ball and start making a comparable product because their is a need for this product. I have used it for years and my dentist recommended I keep using it because my gums are so sensitive. I have told many people about it and they are happy with the results. PLEASE MAKE THIS PRODUCT or I and many more people will be eating baby food. You should make a fortune and please make bigger tubes than 1oz. Please send this to your marketing dept.

Rick. Do you think this will work on an upper denture? I am having problems keeping it in. I have severe bone loss and right now I am using alot of adhesive just to keep them in but still can't chew down because then it comes out. I guess if anyone wants to buy these beads now is a good time since Halloween is coming up. Looks the availability is at every store that sells Halloween stuff.

I do not have any trouble with my uppers. I used cushion grip for padding my lowers so I'm not sure about uppers but thermoplastic is the same stuff cushion grip was made of.

Is this thermoplastic stuff non toxic and FDA approved? We are already putting the teeth in made of who knows what, I would be cautiously concerned about adding more toxins in to our systems.

Jani .....these dentists are all about money once they take out all your teeth they don't give a f#$& about you and after they know that we will be back for adjustments, relines, and cracked dentures for life. They feel that most of us if we didn't take care of our teeth that's our problem. This is a multi-million dollar practice.

Natalie...I am beginning to see that. I read ALOT of these posts and the things people are doing to get a comfortable fit. Or like me using a crap load of adhesive just to keep the top denture in and the first chew its already clicking out with my lower. Nuked a potatoe for my dinner and gummed it to death. The dentures fell out at 3pm and I wasn't about to put them back in after I got all the crap off my gums and roof of mouth.

Sorry your top flys out, my top is great the bottoms suck, so tired of using so much fixodent to keep the bottoms in for awhile-as long as I don't eat much they might stay put for 8 hrs. I had this fantasy that once I got dentures I could EAT anything-didn't bargin that I'd be on a soft diet forever. With my 8 or so bad teeth I could eat more then I do now. I kinda figured welfare dentures would suck & yep they do,yet michigan paid like 3,00 total. They got screwed too.

Beth, I had the same fantasy! I honestly thought that at this point (10 weeks) I'd be eating real food again. At least with my bad teeth I knew where to chew, etc.

Side note -Where in Michigan are you? I'm in a fleck of dust on the map just north of Lansing.

Just got a reline & man they actually fit & I can eat, the only problem is near the backs on both sides it hurt like hell putting them in or taking them out I'm afraid if the dentist grinds them down I'll lose my fit so for this next wk I'll try to learn how to deal with the pain.

Merk sold CG to Bayer.
So to get someone to HEAR us we ALL need to contact Bayer. NO ONE IS LISTENING TO US HERE.
Perhaps  we can get some notice if we all post to Bayer's Facebook, Twitter pages. At least we will be posting to the actual company that can make CG again. Here are the links:

Hi Sharon,

I actually did contact Bayer OTC dept earlier in an effort to get more feedback to the marketing dept with everyone's issues.
I posted it somewhere that I had done that with the phone number. It's going to take many calls before they realize they are losing $ and put many people in difficult situations.... I have a small mouth, so I've always been the last to finish eating.... I've done everything I was supposed to so I could learn to speak again (I speak in Sanskrit when I teach yoga) which was difficult to somewhat get back my speech pattern.

I had no idea Fixo hosted this forum.... I made the call and fairly certain it will take many more!
Thank you!

Hi Roxanne:
Thank you so much for posting that phone number. Maybe between that and the links we can finally get their attention. I am going to link this website to my next message to Bayer. Then they can read(hopefully if anyone there cares) what we have all been saying. Fingers crossed that they will finally see the light and realize how much more money they can make from it. Win-win for us all.

Retha: Thanks for trying, but Merck doesn't make Cushion Grip anymore. They sold that department to Bayer. You can contact Bayer at :Bayer OTC Dept: (412) 777-2000. If you have the time, please give them a call. Lots of us are doing that. Also Charlene has setup a Facebook page that we are also using to get Bayers attention. https://www.facebook.com/Cushion-Grip-Dental-Products-1075838522427584/ Charlene has had some responses. I have also emailed but haven't gotten a response yet. We need all the help we can get to get CG back on the market.

Charlene,

I just now made a lengthy post about this on the Bayer website. Here it is:

Lori Ryan: There really is a great need for this discontinued product. If it suited someone's needs, they pretty much became a loyal lifetime user, as there was no other product available that works like this one did. No longer being able to purchase it has caused great suffering to many people, because to not be able eat comfortably greatly reduces quality of life.

Lori Ryan: What Comfort Grip offered that no other product did, (or does), was provide more than adhesive qualities...it offered a comfortable, semi-permanent layer of cushioning to the denture's hard surface; making it possible for the many people with sensitive gums to once again eat in "comfort" in spite of the unfortunate conditions that forced them to have their own teeth removed.

Lori Ryan: I think it could have been a much better seller if the original manufacturer had perhaps just advertised it a bit differently; as it really isn't an "adhesive" per se; more of a form-fitting liner.....if it had been advertised to let people KNOW that, more people NEEDING exactly that could have found it. As it was all the advertising was pretty much through word of mouth. That alone created many loyal lifetime customers, but not in the quantities that would have been possible had advertising led the right customers to try it. People strictly looking for a glue-type adhesive were likely disappointed, because, as previously stated; Cushion Grip was NOT that, really. I truly believe different advertising could have changed all that, as opposed to discontinuing it. Hopefully Bayer might consider bring it back with a new advertising slant, or even offer the patent to some other enterprising company? Either solution would make thousands of previous customers extremely happy, and undoubtedly thousands more who need this but just didn't realize that a product that worked like this even existed.

Lori Ryan: There are forums online devoted to this dilemma; many many people anxiously awaiting some news on the subject. Could Bayer possibly give some consideration to this matter? It would be much appreciated by many people currently unable to enjoy one of life's most basic pleasures: eating. Thank you, Lori Ryan

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wanted to say thank you to you, Charlene, for the great idea to contact Bayer, and for providing me the link to do so! Also many thanks to the Fixodent people for providing this very useful forum, where they so graciously let us discuss all denture products; not just their own. Fixodent gets a gold star in my book for that!

My thought is, the people that are selling it now, had a personal stock before it was discontinued (perhaps saw in advance that it was being discontinued and bought it up).

Christine:
There are professional groups, that big companies contract with, that will buy up all of a companies discontinued stock and then resell it for a large profit. Sometimes they sell batches of the products to smaller sellers who then turn around and sell it at even bigger profits on private sale sites, such as eBay and Amazon. If you look at the sellers on eBay and Amazon you will see that several of them are selling ONLY discontinued products(not only Cushion Grip) at very large mark ups. They know that if someone wants something bad enough they will pay whatever it costs. Absolute Greed.

They must have had inside information about it. I also guestion the fact that it was not make public before it was taken off the market. I wish some smart lawyer that wears dentures would get involved about what is going on with the people on Amazon and EBay that has it and selling it for $500.00 !

I think a class action lawsuit should be brought against Amazon and EBay for Price Gouging. Maybe that will get many people's attention, along with notifying your local TV NEWS stations, who do stories on Public Rip-offs or stations who do things like On Your Side stories. If enough tv stations start contacting the people and places who allow these high prices on a one ounce product to be posted, something might get done. Amazon and E-Bayers selling this item should also have to list the expiration date on the tubes!!!!

Good luck with your efforts,, however, as someone else explained it, eBay and Amazon are not the ones selling it. Therefore they cannot be held responsible for price gouging.

Think of them like a flea market. They are NOT the ones setting the prices, the third-party sellers set the prices.

I feel bad for everyone that needs it, but a class action suit is not the answer.

I'm sorry!!!!

I found a product made by DOC. Dentist on call which is a denture reline kit. I found it at Walmart in Georgia but not in South Carolina. I just did it, took an hour. Will try out tomorrow. My bottom is very painful. They don't want to do a reline because my new dentures are not centered, and still swelling on the bottom. I coated my bottom gums with petroleum jelly and trying this reline. I'm two weeks in.

I just wanted to stop by and quickly about a few items topics. First, thank you so much for acknowledging that regardless of this being a forum sponsored by Fixodent, it is more important that all denture wearers are able to find information about their situation and solutions to their related problems from people who have or are going through the same thing. Whether you are here to help others, make a product recommendation, or ask a question, everyone is encouraged to speak freely. The Denture Living Forum is for everyone!

Also, AleciaP is correct that websites such as eBay or Amazon are not selling the discontinued product, it is individuals who immediately buy up any quantity of popular products that have recently been discontinued. It's how they make their living. It is their prerogative to set the price. It is simply supply and demand, no matter how unfair it may seem. We often see this with many of our brands, from denture adhesive to toothpaste, from laundry detergent to fiber bars. I see that many folks are concerned with expiration dates, which you should be! You are certainly able to ask these sellers for the expiration date on a product. In this case, it would be in the crimp at the end of the tube. If a seller refuses to give you the date, you have the option to not buy from them. Wishing you the best of luck with your preferred products making a comeback! Thanks.

Rosie, why are you allowing this Eric Guy to talk the way he does to people??  I have spent the last few days reading this forum .  I have been working on a article regarding the disconnected product Cushion Grip , I truly want you to review some of the things this guy is saying  !  This is just one of many I have seen " eric commented on a reply to this idea:

Please make a product comparable to Cushion Grip
Thank you for reminding us all the past safety issues of Toyota vehicles. I still remember vividly some TV footages of Toyota chairman testifying at the congressional hearing. And I am very sorry to hear the loss of your friend in that tragedy.
Perhaps, a long established household product like “Listerine” here at home may be more appropriate to be used as an example in the context.

In any event, Vincit omnia veritas says it all....Toyota’s no exception.

This should be a safe place to ask questions, gain information, and in general, educate ourselves and each other. Unfortunately, some like to be trolls and instigate problems for others. You just have to completely ignore them, and they will move on. Spouting nonsense and supposed intellect just shows true insecurities.

In all fairness I have to say that I was not offended by Erics response to my reply. I did understand his reference to substituting Listerine which does follow the context of the discussions we have pertaining to our denture journey. This site has been so helpful to me during my transition to a denture wearer and I want to thank everyone. Hopefully soon we will be able to share the products that may help each other with no insults or hostilities. We are all in this together and sometimes the journey can be difficult enough.

I see a lot of comments that would constitute bullying and they are not all comments made by Eric. At times, this site looked like a teenager blog which I recognize because I taught high school for 42 years. I am at this time using the product Eric recommended and will give you a review after a few days of using. I would like to try CL, but have not received the sample yet. As I said before, if you don't like the comments, just scroll like you would on Facebook. I do have to say, the site was pleasant and informative for the last few days.

I've gad had my "starter" set for 10 yrs?  They absolutely do not fit.
If it wasn't for CG I would of bee out of luck 9 yrs ago......
My Question..............
I checked on flexible. But they're only used for partials. It was a good dream anyway.

Can anyone tell me what is the best type of denture to get?  Open to suggestions

Thanks Rosie. Cindy, mine are some type of acrylic and I love them. Had them for a little over 2 months and I'm doing great. I do use adhesive but more for my piece of mind. My suggestion would be to find a dentist you trust, if you don't have one already, and discuss the different options.

Rosie, I am surprised you only removed one person. However, I am glad the site has gone back to its original purpose--helping people with dental problems. I don't think anyone should sell their product on here except Fixodent. But that being said, I'm glad I have Eric's email because the product he suggested is the best product I have tried so far. And believe me, I have tried just about everything except CL and I plan to try it next. For me, it was a good suggestion. I never used cushion grip, but from the description his suggestion is very similar. Thanks for making the site available for us unfortunate toothless people.

I just got dentures 2 weeks ago and the adhesives that I've purchased don't hold very well and make my entire mouth sticky; it's pretty gross and causes my mouth to be dry and that affects my speech incredibly more thank it already is totally garbled.  My question is:  Has Fixodent created a product like Cushion Grip yet?  Thank you!

This question has been asked elsewhere and Fixodent has stated they do not have a product like it.  In one post over a year ago one of the moderators was going to forward it to their R&D department.  I never did see anything further.  That being said...

There are a number of products available worldwide that are similar and some have stated BETTER than Cushion Grip.  Cushion Correct is one and can be purchased on Amazon or eBay.

There are others.  Additional information can be found here:

I've tried all the other so-called Cushion Grip alternatives, including Comfort Lining and the Asian products. None of them come close to the ease of use, convenience or durability of Cushion Grip.

The worst one of all the "alternatives" is a basement concoction called Comfort Lining. There's absolutely no way to tell what it's made of, but I believed its website hype, and I was so desperate for a Cushion Grip replacement, I bought a couple of tubes. I was extremely disappointed, to say the least. It's virtually impossible to spread on the denture because it stays pliable outside of the tube for about 10 seconds, and that's after heating it. Just watch some of the YouTube demonstration videos to see what a joke it is. I experimented with countless ways to get it to works, and all I ever ended up with were globules of semi-hard rubbery plastic.

I will not pay the inflated prices now being charged online for Cushion Grip, and I've come to the disappointing conclusion after all these years, that no manufacturer is coming to our rescue by making the original formula. We are stuck with all the old products that hardly work.

Unfortunately, when Cushion Grip was still widely available, there was zero promotion to support it so relatively few denture wearers discovered it. As a result, the sales were too low for the manufacturer to bother with the alleged health problems and threatened lawsuits, which is why it's highly unlikely that another manufacturer will pick up the ball and re-introduce it. The risks to a company far outweigh the benefits.

It's the sad truth.

I really like Cushion Correct (non-ez best).  I've also tried the Toughgrip and Liodent products and think CC is best of the four Japanese products.  I've used Cushion Correct for over a year now and found it is a little bit of a pain to remove, but otherwise quite good.

I just ordered a product called DinoBase 7 from Europe and am going to try that for "for comparison" sake.  Once it gets here I'll give it my honest review.  There is a thread started by me under that name already.   It's made in Italy and the Italians are pretty good with "rubber-type" products.  Pirilli Tires and Mares SCUBA gear are both leaders in their fields.

Just so people can find it easier if they Google it, the product is Dinabase 7.
