Possible problem with getting dentures.

I have to have my teeth pulled and get dentures.  I have no problem with this concept.  My problem is that I have an awful gag reflex and if I have to use the glop people use to hold in their dentures, I WILL vomit.  Is it possible to get by without the gloppy stuff?

Hi Tammy!!! Ok I'm gonna b straight honest. In the beginning with temp denture u r going to 99% sure have to use the adhesive. But I will say this, if u use the powder type it's so so so much better. I was the same way, the cream types were horrible and made me gag so bad. But I started using the powder and no problems. Also secure is awesome. It's not a powder but it's so different and better than other cream adhesive. Now once u get ur permanant denture u shouldn't need adhesives too much. I just got my permanant little over month ago and haven't used any at all. The reason u need it with temps is cuz ur gums shrink so much for the 1st 9 months to a year so the denture will b loose. But just hang in there. Once u get ur perm it should fit perfect. Good luck and let us know how ur doing afterwards. We r all here for any questions or just to talk and vent.

You can solve the problem by getting implants.  With implants you will eliminate the gag problem.  If you get implants on your uppers you will not need the pallet over the top of your arch.  You will not have to use adhesives.
There are different implant procedures and different prices for the various approaches.   They are much ore like your real teeth
Read all about it on the internet.  If you can afford it go for it immediatley.  If it is a money problem figure out a way to do one of the approaches.  It can be financed.  Think of it as buying a new car
Educate your self about implants.  Read all about them on the internet  Read all these blogs that you are on right now
You can even go to Costa Rico or Budapest for less expensive
implants
Go to at least 3 dentists for free dental consultations and let them explain each option to you

I would love to get implants, but I am on a very strict budget that doesn't allow even financing them.  But thank you for the suggestion.

Tammy how much are the dentures???  How much more would  the less expensive Implants (the all on
4) cost or an over denture on mini implants cost?

Powder or strips... If you try the creme, less is more.  You shouldn't use sooo much that you are gagging.  More will not give you better hold, actually, the opposite is true.  You will get worse hold.

Thank you for your comment.  The problem is not the amount of goop.  It's the fact that I can't tolerate anything in my mouth that I don't identify as food.

Tammy DenSureFit does not have any kind of gooy to it. Theres no horrible taste or smell. It doesnt stick to your gums it sticks to your denture. I have been wearing dentures for 42 years I have tried everything. This is the only thing that works. You can look on u tube they have a lot of videos showing how it works. You can buy it on line. Its worth the money. It can be used for the top and bottom. Its real easy to use. I eas going through a tube of fixodent free a day. God Bless, Sharona

Never go out of the united states for a procedure, ever!  They do not follow the oaths, laws and regulations that the united states sets to protect the patient from bad practice, bad equipment, bad prosthetics, bad techniques used during procedures. You are plying with fire if you do that. Yes, I have heard of good and very bad outcomes. They can get away with cheaper, non regulated, no oversight, murder!!

It is up to the patient what he or she decides to do, but the patient should be totally informed about all of it!

I have a friend that is in a nightmare with her upper implants with pain, the post breaking and being loose! Yes, also sensitivities. To metals titanium. The will cause auto immune problems! And yes there are some that do very well. Which one are you going to be?

RESEARCH EACH PROCEDURE ON MULTIPLE SITES AND THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EACH OUTCOME! RESEARCH THE DENTIST AND HOW MANY SUCCESSFUL PROCEDURES HE OR SHE HAS DONE AND HOW MANY THEY HAVE DONE!

Doing the research thoroughly will definitely help you find what you need!
That is the best for you and it will help you feel more confident!

Hi Dona
I totally agree
Do the research

As far as implants are concerned as long as you go to a specialist You are in good hands
I had all implants done over 10 years ago and they are
perfect.  I feel like they are my own teeth and I have never had one day's problem with them.  They also are better looking
then my own teeth were.   I  know many people with implants and they all are  happy with their outcome. I also know many
people who have dentures and are miserable with them.
Half of them have their lower dentures in drawers and can never wear them.
Yes read all about it on the  internet.  It's a new world and people no longer want to be unhappy with  dentures and
unhappy with the glue and dentures that hurt them
.
As far as the USA being the only country with good dentists
Think again.  If you want to say it is inconvinent to go to another
country I certainly would agree with that.

Try secure and he Civ strips. They are sort of like double-sided tape. No group in the mouth! You can buy them at Vitacost and other places.

There is on the market in our Wal-Mart a compound called Fixodent Powder that might work for you and then there is Sea Bond that is a sheet you cut to fit in your dentures, those are the two others I have used, I just stick to Fixodent goo!

Hi Tammy and Patricia,
Re: Sea Bond
I used that once for a temporary denture and I did not
like it  all.  That of course must just be a personal
thing
