Hi, time to vent so i apologize in advance. My bottom dentures just won't stay on, they come loose just by drinking water, my dentist said "that happends with bottom dentures". I use Fixodent food seal and no matter what i eat they come loose immediatley and gobs of food gets under them, has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what did you do about it. My next appointment is on Thursday, any advice on what I should tell my dentist? This is very upsetting, the thought of eating gets me upset I already lost 10 pounds and I'm one that dosen't need to lose weight.

I'm Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager. You don't need to apologize. I know this is frustrating, and insight from others is so helpful. Feel free to post anytime you need advice or when you just need to vent.
I'm sorry your lower denture becomes loose so quickly. Fixodent is designed to hold for 12 hours. However, hot liquids such as soup, coffee and tea can loosen denture adhesive, as can the flow of saliva, which is often increased when dentures are first placed. Ibelieve it was the beginning of the month when you had your extractions done, soI expect your gums are still healing. As they heal, swelling goes down, which can cause loose dentures. A lower denture is naturally more difficult to hold in place than an upper denture, but please don't lose heart - it will get better. As your gumsheal, your dentist will continue to make adjustments to your dentures for improved fit, andtime will allow the muscles of your mouth to learn to hold your lower denture in place.
I'd like to follow-up with you via postal mail. Would you mind sending me an email with your name& address? Please send it to smhc.im@pg.com and include your username in your message. Thanks!
^Karen

Steve,
After 8 months, are you able to eat? Do they fit better? I’ve had mine only one day and I find myself clenching really hard to keep the bottoms in. Then I suffer with shooting, throbbing pain for hours trying to space my 800 mg Motrin according to the 6-8 hours between doses as instructed. What an awful experience. I wish I had the $10,000 for the treatment plan my old dentist had for me. Or good credit so I could finance the root canals and crowns. No bottom teeth is shitty and these damn immediate dentures feel like a hard and painful piece of plastic. I was in so much pain today I cried. After reading some parts of your post, I cried for you and then laughed hysterically. I gagged a few times at work and my co worker asked me what I had in my mouth. I realized the damn dentures were protruding out of my chin like a mouth guard professional boxers wear. I can’t live like this. I’ll probsbly have to resort to cashing out my retirement to pay for denture stabilizer implants...rather than buying that beach house by the ocean I’ve been dreaming about. All I can say is that my denture specialists are going to know my name too well as I will be in their worst nightmares if they can’t do something to make these big ass bottoms smaller. There is no reason I should have a piece of fake gums protruding out of my chin. And just so you know, this is not from swelling. It’s the denture, the fake gums that go way too deep for my small framed mouth. I just want to scream for u and with u. I hope u have found some relief. And hopefully there is a good civil attorney that will take on your case so you can at least be compensated for all of your pain and suffering, mental injury and lost wages as a result of your trauma. Best wishes to you and your family. Thanks for sharing and bringing a smile to my toothless face.
Take Care,, Belin

I am 2 wks in and also have the big chin,
it looks like I’m chewing tobacco. I can see on my temps where it needs to be shaved back a bit only on one side. The left side is flat and the right side protrudes. I tried to bite a kit kat today and bottoms fell out before I bit down all the way. However last week I couldn’t drink w o losing bottom plate and w o having it pour all down my front but I can drink fine now so I have hope eating will hopefully also be possible in a couple weeks . They say it takes at least one month to get used to them.
Don’t be afraid of bothering your dentist , that’s why they r there and what we are paying for. Be patient (e z for me to say)

Lisa,
There really is no way to damage your denture with the application of Stabil-Dent.  It is just acrylic and can be easily sanded away.  We also offer the option of our professional application if you would like to send us your denture.  Let us know if you have any more questions as we'd be happy to answer them for you.

What we have been doing is having people call the office and let them talk to the Dr. for a moment so he can get a sense of their issue with their lower, if they are interested in professional installation.  It is generally 24 hour turn around and is $155.  Please give the office a call at 406-257-5283 (M-TH 8a-4p MTN).

I'm sorry Karen but I got my dentures last July and I HATE them. I also can't get my bottom's to stay in. I usually wait til I am on my way to work to apply my Fixodent as that way it's a 30 min ride with nothing to eat or drink. I can't eat anything that you have to chew. A hamburger, steak, out of the question. I can't even bite into a nectrine that is ripe. I have people that went to the "cheap" place and they came into work the same day that they got their teeth and ate corn curls of all things!! I spent good money and researched the dentist and wish I had my rotten old teeth back. Not a day goes by that I don't regret it. Also Fixodent makes me gag and choke and that is with putting the amount called for.

Hello everyone!  According to my Dentist...Affordable Dentures....the bottom gum line recedes and there is not much we can do.  I use Fixodent Plus (superior hold) in the gray a purple tube, it holds my top dentures very well (sometimes they won't come out until the next day); but the bottoms ones....same story as all of you....they will NOT stay in while eating!  Sometimes when I talk they will just loosen up!  Sometimes I hate I got them pulled but, I had to...I had pyaria so mine were falling out. They did recommend implants....but I said NO!

With the technology they have to send people to the freaking moon, they can’t make a denture cream that’ll hold dentures better? Give me a break. Come on people you’d make billions if they could make dentures hold better. Besides implants that NOT everyone could afford.

Sorry people. Lower denture is a problem for 99% of wearers. If you can't afford Implants [All on four] try checking out your Faculty of Dentistry to see if you can get into one of there implant programs. [Supervised] Students do the work - fee is nominal.

Luck!

I've tried both fixadent, polygrip, and then the polygrip that is "supposed" to hold food out....it's frustrating I can't seem to even eat a small simple ANYTHING no matter what time of day it is if i've had them in for a minute or all day the bottom WONT stay in.
I'm afraid to go out with friends worried that they will come loose...they can be messy as you all know and I don't feel entirely comfortable taking it out, and gluing it back in the middle of a restaurant...just frustrating..

Diana , mine feel huge too. But now almost 2 months out they feel much more normal. Give it some time for your mouth to get used to having foreign matter in it. If you're still uncomfortable, have them remake the denture. Or they may can chisel it down . I went back twice to have mine altered in the first month. Good luck ! Brenda J.

All of these comments about bottom dentures is starting to depress me. I had all of my teeth extracted on Monday -- 4 days ago -- my bottom dentures are giving me all kinds of problems! I keep telling myself that it will get better -- but now I am not so sure it will. When does it get better?? Is there anyone out there who had these problems in the beginning but found that it got better??

Tammy, I only have one thing to tell you. It WILL get better with perseverance and a good dentist. Keep going back if you need adjustments made to the denture and get them relined as soon as your gums return to normal. Good luck and never give up ! Brenda J.

I've been dealing with both lower and upper dentures for about 3 years now. Implants are out of the question, I m allergy to the posts. My uppers are fine. My lowers are pitiful. I'm a 56 yr old woman with lower jaw the size of a 8 year old. Extremely small. I've used every denture cream on the market. Fix a dent ultra hold works extremely well for me except the tube opening is to large. I have to use a toothpick to get the cream into the channel. Once my dentures are set for the day I'm good for about 12+ hours.

I too have the same problem with my lowers which i have been dealing with this for about 3 months. I keep calling the dentist and having him see me yet again over and over to fix all the issues with it. I am getting ready to tell him i want new ones .....This is crazy.

Yes, it will get better.  I had all my remaining teeth taken out on 2/22 and immediates put in.  After a visit to my dentist yesterday for adjustments, and the application of Fixodent Ultra this morning, for the first time since I got them they stayed in while I ate a fried fish filet for lunch.  Second, had a nice convo with my dentist yesterday - yes the immediate dentures are bulky and take getting used to.  But, they are made after one mold and one bite.  We have set the first of 4 appts for my perms, new mold, new bite and then a wax mold to see how it all fits before the finals are made.  It will get better!!!  After several years of worrying about people seeing my teeth (one of my fronts decided to look like Nanny McPhee at the start of the film) I can smile and converse with people I see and not worry about it.  That is worth it!

My heart goes out to each of you that is having issues with your lower denture. I went down this road with both my parents....relinings, tweaking, more relining, a second plate for my mother...on and on and so was the cost. I finally found a Denturist in Kalispell Montana (on the internet) that has developed a product called, "Stabil-Dent". It is for the bottom plate and helps secure the lower denture beautifully without the need for expensive implants!!

When I called, I was so impressed with what I was told, I ordered a kit for each of my parents right then and there. The kits were mailed them out the next day and they were VERY easy us to install and VERY inexpensive, but the best part is they WORK!!!

Both my parents are extremely pleased with the results....my Mom is even going out of the house now and both just went to lunch with friends the other day which is something neither of them have not done for at least a couple of years.

I don't know if I can mention this, but if I can, I found them on the website StabilDent.com.

Two of my parent's friends were so impressed with how well they worked for my folks, that they ordered a kit for themselves...waiting to hear how they worked for them.

Best of luck to each of you....

Implants do not have a high failure rate.. 95 percent success rate with a qualified dentist. Also theres a wealth of information online and products to keep you dentures in very well..just go look youd be surprised how well they work.the success of your dentures is only as good as your dentist...your dentist should be more than happy to help you if not go to ine that is. Also always go online and check reviews..I was at a jerkey dentist once ...and I told him he was a jerk.. I unclipped the napkin around my neck.... and said..... goodbye

Stable-debt looks interesting , but as with other products to help with lower denture fit, poor folks like myself can't afford it. Maybe one day someone will make something that's affordable to all. :(
