Question about denture adhesives - am I crazy?

I am into my 3rd week with full dentures and had a question about adhesives. I use adhesive (Poligrip, Fixodent, name it) on upper and lower but my bottoms especially (like everyone else's) come loose easily. I have noticed that the adhesion gets Stronger after an hour or so of fixing my dentures. I mean, when I first put them in, I think "This will never hold past my morning coffee..." But after some time passes, the hold actually get stronger. Does this happen to anyone else? Does the paste actually take time to "set up" almost like real glue? Is this true more of one paste than another? Thanks!

Yes adhesive does take some time until it adheres properly. You should always wait 30-60 minutes before eating or drinking any liquids to make sure the proper adhesion takes place. Place the denture on the lower jaw (mandible) and apply firm pressure for 1-3 minutes when applying. This is what I tell all of my patients to do and it really has helped them. If you have any other question just contact my office and we can give you free tips and pointers. At the end of the day we want to educate patients properly so they can be successful with their dentures. Here is my contact info. (208)454-0311 or via my website I hope this helps you.
