Soft liner chemical taste

I got a reline on my temporary upper two days ago and the chemical taste is so bad that I cannot keep it in my mouth. I’ve soaked it, rinsed with mouthwash, etc and nothing is lessening this terrible taste. Is this normal? What can I do to get rid of it? Why on earth would a company make something that has to stay in someone’s mouth taste like a harsh cleanser?!? This process is just too aggravating sometimes.

They make dental supplies taste bad as to not promote salivation, I asked my Dentist the same thing last week when I had a hard reline done. It was done with acrylic the same stuff used for fake nails. it burned something awful. The awful taste took a few days to go away.

Yes!  I just had my first soft liner done and it tasted like I was eating paint thinner or something for about two days.  It's finally starting to go away.  Nasty tasting but they do fit more comfortably.

It's definitely more comfy.  Just expect it to not taste that great for a few days.  I think I have one more soft liner to go.

I'm assuming it's the same as a soft liner.  If so, they mix together some sort of concoction that goes on the denture and hardens.  It conforms to your gums and makes the denture more secure with a closer fit to match your gums perfectly.  Also makes the denture more comfortable.  The chemical taste does wear off after a few days but I can only liken it to eating paint thinner or something of that chemical strength.  Not that I have ever ate paint thinner but it has a very strong chemical smell and taste.  I left mine soaking for a few days after I had it done because I couldn't stand it.

Just got my soft reline today and I hate it. The smell and taste is like eating acrylic from the nail salon. This is just miserable. I just wanted some relief from the sore spots and a better fit, but I don't know that it was even worth it. I'm only 1 week post extractions so it's just hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.

I completely understand. The taste does go away. I soaked mine about two days in the cleaning tray with the tabs before it got tolerable. It does make them so much more comfortable though. Just give it a little time and it will be a distant memory. I think I got my soft liner around 3 weeks after extraction. I'm currently a week out from lower extraction surgery so I'm starting over again. The stitches are annoying me so much. Can't keep my tongue from messing with them and it's making it more sore than it needs to be. I lack self control.

I feel like I;m swallowing nail polish remover,, every time i swallow. I had to remove mine for a few hours (I'm on day two for liner) . Why so toxic tasting SMOG with todays technology, cant this be done without such an awful taste!,  I am brand new to this with my temps in, and WOW  I feel like i have a 1/2 inch of plastic stuck to the top of my mouth? has anyone else had this? or do i  have a really cheap set of temps? I would think they'd be a lot thinner ?

I completely agree. The taste was awful and it was making me drool like crazy! It took a few days of soaking in water and alcohol free mouth wash for that taste to go away. And I think that the temporaries are thicker/larger than permanents. The more your gums shrink and the more adjustments you get, they start to look better. In the beginning, I was not even able to lick my lips with them in. Now the tops look normal at first glance, and the bottoms still make me look like I have gauze or something in my lower lip, but I am hoping that they will start to look more normal in time like the uppers. I really do hope that the permanents are a lot thinner for all our sakes!
