Still can't eat

It's been 9 months since having my teeth pulled and immediate dentutes put in. Top and bottom Been 3 months since getting my permanent ones and I still can't eat. Thanksgiving came and went and couldn't chew the turkey. Now Christmas has come and gone and wasn't able to chew the ham. I live ham! Made Christmas cookies but couldn't eat them I am so fed up, Frustrated and just fed up with it all. I've been to the dentist a few times. So far nothing has helped. I think the dentures are made wrong. Could this be why I can't bite into anything or chew anything? Will they make me a new pair or do I just have to settle and live on pasta ,soup and eggs the rest of my life. I don't know what else to do. Last time I went they did something, not sure what but it didn't help. The dentist suggested implants. Well that's out of the question cuz I'm unemployed. Even if I did work I couldn't afford them. And I feel like it wouldn't make a difference. I need to get back to the dentist and make them do something. Just don't know what else they can do. It's not that they are real loose or anything. I just can't chew food with them. Is it me or is it the dentures? I think it's the dentures. I've tried to eat things. I can't even bite into a piece of toast or a cookie. I went to aspen dental. Does anyone know if they're make me a new pair or what? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions what I can or should do? I'm hungry! I want a burger! I want pizza! I want real food! It's really getting to me. My daughter and I'd be out shopping and can't just go anywhere to eat. Got to go somewhere that serves pasta or eggs. I can't continue to live like this! What can I do? Please help me!

I'm sorry you are still having issues after 9 months. That must be really frustrating.

How do you chew? One thing my dentist told me that was really useful is that dentures are designed to chew using an up and down motion. Your original teeth are designed to chew in a side to side motion. As long as I remember to chew up and down I can eat most foods. If I forget and try to chew like I used to I start gagging.

It has been nine months for me as well, and I still can't eat. i couldn't afford permanents. I eat just soft stuff in public but at hone I have to take them out to eat and that is NOT a pretty sight. I did happen to speak to someone that seem to know his stuff, and he feels they are not either properly trained or just doing them wrong. Unfortunatly, he was here visiting in Florida from another state. But suggested I put my foot down and tell them ,with all the money I paid, that they should work with them until they get it right. But they want 500.00 more to do that...This doctor was so nice too. Anyhow If they can't do it right, I may have to go to another doc..they told me that it may take awhile but they will feel as my own. I will try to be resoeanable and take from there. Also, they will not let me discuss this issue with dentist. Hmmm.... Hope goes well for you. Let me know how turns out. Theresa

It's been 2 months for me. First they told me I had dissolvable stitches which would be gone in 7 to 10 days. 30 days later I still had them..find out they oops? Didnt use dissolvable ones
Have had them adjusted 3 times now have also explained I cant eat that it's very painful for any pressure on my gums. They've done nothing. The dentist has never come to look..no follow up done to ensure my gums healed properly. Went Friday and they adjusted the wrong side. Smh. Have an ulcer on my gum...all they said was "its normal and should go away in about 2 weeks," when I started it had been there for about a month they said use orajel when you eat...uhhh.. I want food. I work 10 to 12 hours a day the amount of time it takes me to eat...actually swallow food takes about an hour. When I try to chew the food gets no smaller so I end up, after about 15 minutes just swallowing it. This cant be normal. I'm at the end of my rope and dont get why they act as though everything is normal and I'm just being a pain.

Give it a chance I also take them out to eat.  When I am home I never wear them.  No easy answer.  If you can get implants  it makes a difference.  Think about it.

It has only been one month for me and I still have my temps.  They are getting bigger and looser by the day..have appointment next week to readjust.  I am STARVING!!  I have only been able to eat very soft foods.  No cookies or candy for me..not even cake!  I know it is early on, but I also went to Apen Dental and they have guaranteed they will eventually fit normally and I shouldn't have any issues once I get my perms.  I am trying to be patient, but I have lost about 10lbs and I am a very small framed, thin person so I don't need to lose anymore.  I have a long way to go it sounds like...BUT trying to remain positive.  It has definitely been life changing so far and I can't wait to get my perms that will hopefully fit a lot better than these darn temps.  Best of luck, Mary.  Hope it gets better for you soon.

Went back to the dentist today for a realign.  Much, much better!!!  I actually ate a sloppy joe tonight and it was delish!  I was determined to have them fix the issues and was there for almost 2 hours trying them in, having them fixed, and retrying until it was a great fit.  I, now, feel like I'm seeing the end in sight.  Cannot wait for my perms!!!

I also have spent a lot of money everytime I pulled a tooth another denture.  I have the denture where you cant add a tooth cause I didn't llike the silver showing on my partial.  Now full bottom hate them.

my bottoms come out and float around when I try to eat.  I have to find some kind of a fix to secure them better.  I think I use too much adhesive but it's the only way to keep them from slipping.

I have those. They don't work. I even spoke to a rep, she told me exactly how to use it. Honestly I have every single product that is made for dentures.
I will let you know how my appointment with oral surgeon goes.
Thank you for helping

Yes. I don't want to freak you out. We have only had one person so far with a similar issue and they have that and we didn't even realize. So when she came for her...I think 4th Reline she decided she's going to bring it up to her specialist.

Oh no you don't freak me out.. not at all.. Thank you .
I wouldn't doubt something weird is going on with me. I had bladder mesh, I rejected it, suffered for 4 years, it caused multiple problems for me, I have developed alot of autoimmune issues since the implant, Rheumatoud arthritis, fibromyalgia, hypothyroid , many many uti's, which resulted in long term use of antibiotics. I'm just a wreck..to young to have so many problems. but. I am mesh free.. it caused a lot of damage, I'm still recovering from that surgery. It was very complicated..
I'm due for labs in 2weeks.
Thank you again. :)

I don't understand the problem you all have been having.  I went to Aspen Dental and other than not getting my temp plates for a month due to the fact I only had 16 teeth left to take out.  But once I got my teeth it took me only two weeks to eat.  I wasn't going to let anything stop me from eating the foods I love to eat.  I have had corn on the cob and instead of eating it like I used too I had to change and only eat two rows instead of four.  When I eat steak I cut it into small bites.  Now I do have problems eating white bread and dumplings as it stick to my dentures.  Now I use the powder to secure my top plate and polident for my bottoms.  The bottoms do come loose from time to time and I just have to re apply and I am all good.  I get my final set this Friday and I can't wait.  I wish I had an answer for everyone's problems.  All I can say is do the best you can and don't let anything stop you.  Going out for Ribs tonight as it is my 60th birthday.  Good luck all

For me my lower jaw goes a bit to the left, so I am going to have to have some special thing a ma-gig done. %00.00 more. And I hope not more than that. Everyones mouth is different I guess...but I don't scare young children anymore when I smile.

I'm not a dentist but I think if your jaw goes left, so should your denture! Isn't that why they do impressions?

Theresa I agree with Ken.  Maybe the denture was not made correctly.  Sometimes you need to go back several times for an adjustment.
