Thanks to those who have helped....

I found this board about a week after having my extractions and immediate dentures and after a week or so of monitoring the board created an account and started offering my help. At the same time, reading about the experiences of others has been very helpful for me.

Unfortunately, I am concerned about some of the activity on this board and feel that its best for me to step away for at least awhile. I will stop in occasionally, but not on a daily basis like I have for since I joined in early January.

Please everyone use caution when choosing your adhesives and other compounds. Research the products you are going to use, and don't blindly trust anyone! Be cautious about clicking on links provided in posts. Any internet security expert (which I am not) will tell you to NOT click on links in boards, social media and emails. Rather than clicking on links, search for the product you are looking for yourself.

So -- thanks to everyone who has posted their ideas and experiences and made me realize that I am not alone, and to everyone who I have posted advice to, best of luck to all of you. I'll drop by in sometime to see how everyone is doing.

Thanks

Gina, I would love to keep in touch with you outside of here! I understand exactly what you mean about needing to step away for awhile. I am planning to do the same.

Please let me know when you will be on here, if you'd like to keep in touch and I will post my email address for you.

Best of luck! Thanks for all of your help!

Hi Alicia -- I saw your post earlier this week. A few hours after I created this post I opted to close my account and didn't have time to re-sign back up during the week. I would like to keep in touch. It's too bad this board didn't have internal messaging. I will be on off and on and I might create a dummy email address to post so that you can email me and then just close it after I give you my real email.

Work is crazy right now so I won't be on much. My daughter and I both have dental appointments on Monday (she is getting fillings and I will be seeing if a soft reline is in order) and I was hoping to take the day off, but after meeting a particularly challenging deadline last week, we have been given an even more challenging deadline for the end of the month. Never fails. Anyway, I am on unlimited overtime until further notice so my weeks are a blur. Oh and yest my "new" user name is Gina2 because I couldn't use my other email address and reactivate my account. If you decide to leave the board let me know and I'll get the dummy email posted so you can contact me if you want. Thanks!

I am just joining and must say that the two of you will be greatly missed. I've gained so much from both of your profiles. Thanks so much for sharing your stories and ideas for helping. I have just received my soft reline and credit your profiles and the wonderful members that posted with helping me get through that first two weeks of emotional and physical ups and downs. You ladies rock!

Thanks Jennifer, but I'm not leaving, just Gina taking a break. Which I may do myself pretty soon! But I'm glad to know that I've helpful to you! It's always nice to hear!

It's not always easy to dig through all the emails to find anything specific so I hope I can always find yours!

Too sweet! I am sure I will take you up on that. I am about try some adhesives for my bottoms...the tops seem to stay decently with suction. Some say powder. I already have a little tube of Fixodent plus. Once I got through figuring the best way to get it off of my gums it wasn't tooooooo bad. I hear that you kind of have to try different things until you find what works best for you...I just hate to spend the money to "experiment" :(

It's too bad some companies do not provide new denture wearers like us free samples so we could experiment and find out what works for us. The dentist could provide this after a procedure.

That would've been nice for the dentists to give u a lil take home box. I got a denture bath but don't really use it. I got a better one at Walmart for 2.00. And I love it.

1. I try to post my email address only long enough for the person that I want to have it gets it, as there are several people that I don't want to hear from in my email. Unfortunately, I fell asleep. But I thank you for the tip.

2. I have been told, the same thing as Gina from my family and close friends that work in IT, and I will not click on links from people I don't know. Of course these same people would smack me upside the head for listing my email in here as well.

3. Lizzy, I did the same thing. I bought a bath that has a basket in it. I prefer it to see weird ones from the dentist.

4. Tim, if you have any suggestions as to how I can remove my email that doesn't require clicking on a link, I would appreciate it very much.

@Alicia
It is still listed above. You need to be more careful about the spambots.
The Kenbot already has it. LOL

Jennifer Joyner, you hit the nail on the head. Most people eventually try every type of adhesive to see what they personally prefer. We're sorry t hear you had any issues removing the adhesive you are trying from your gums. Here are the tips we offer to our Fixodent users that we have had great feedback on.

Rinse your mouth with hot water (only as hot as is comfortable) and gently brush your gums with a soft-bristled toothbrush and regular toothpaste. Alternatively try to gently rub away the remaining adhesive with a damp cloth or gauze and a small amount of cooking oil.

You can also rinse your mouth with a mouthwash. We don't recommend picking the residue because it could irritate your mouth and gums. You may also want to
experiment to see what amount of product is best for you to see if you are able to use less without sacrificing the hold. Please let us know how that works. Thanks!

Jennifer -- thanks for the kind words. My reason for joining this board to begin with (I am Gina, but closed my account out of frustration) was to help people, but I kept getting drawn into these side battles that I really don't want a part of. I will stop in occasionally, to post when I think I can be helpful. Thanks

Gina, thank you for that reminder, i usually just click on website, but will be more cautious now.  I am new to this website (waited for weeks to get onto a different one and finally gave up) and also new to anything "denture -related."  My procedure (at least dr. appt.) is February 23.  I'm so worried because I am going to be separated from a part of myself, and replaced with plastic and metal.  People have tried making light of it, but its personally very difficult. Anyway good luck to you.

Hi Lori...I totally identify with your feelings. I had 20 teeth extracted and dentures immediately put in on Feb 28. To put it bluntly I was "trippin" LOL. I honestly cried every day for about a week. Allow yourself that luxury because it is a psychological AND physical adjustment. However DON'T STAY THERE. Family and friends are wonderful and provide a lot of love and support. I just turned 47 and thought OMG I am old and ugly now.....um NOT! But that is just where you go mentally during this process. I now have my soft reline and the fit issues I was having are much better. You will not be able to eat anything but pudding, mashed potatoes and the like for a while, and that is necessary and ok. I am just now able to do a little light weight chewing and it is like the gates of Heaven have opened LOL. If you haven't noticed yet you also HAVE to gain a sense of humor about this adjustment. If you are like I was your daily dental health is painful, worrisome and increasingly dangerous for your over-all health. The step you are taking is a step toward a healthier, happier you. Oh and THIS is the place to find great answers and great inspiration along your journey. I'm so glad I found this forum!! Good luck to you, and keep us all posted.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for those inspirational words.  I think reading other people's denture problems is what bothers me, but its okay, has to be done.  I'll survive!  Will definitely be in touch after the procedure - whatever that will be.  Will need lots of advice after that.  Glad to know someone is out there.

You will be fine Lori. I wish I had found this site before I had my procedures. I have found so much useful information here. After a while, my husband got tired of listening to me complain and stress about my dentures. I keep telling him and my daughter to take care of their teeth or they might be in my shoes. But sometimes you can take care of your teeth and still lose them due to medications you must take, bone loss and many other things. Keep reading this site Lori and good luck.

Great comment Sara. I felt like I was talking about it (complaining LOL) all of the time too. It is super uncomfortable though. Folks who have not gone through it don't understand the need to vent, and you can tell by their weary tone and sighs that they have had just about enough of you hahaha!. This site helps that feeling so much :)

I feel that way about my entire life. I have so many health problems that, I'm sure, my family was already tired of hearing about it. Then add on the teeth and I know that they are tired of it - but as I've told them numerous times - not nearly as tired of it as I am! Lol

Thanks Rosie! This is Gina (now Gina2). I closed my account in frustration, but I am back. Security is high on my mind now because of a project I am working on at work. I am building out web content for the division of our company that handles cybercrime and internet security. So although I am not an expert on the topic myself, seeing the content and the tips from the FBI and other agencies on a regular basis has kept the topic on my mind. I would say most links, if not all, provided on this site are probably safe, but everyone should be aware and should be cautious, because it only takes one malicious link to cause a lot of damage. Thanks!

I've not been on as much lately. Been "lurking" though.

Go for it! Humor is always appreciated, by me anyway.
