The first 24 hours

So it has been 24 hours since I had extractions and my upper plate put in. I also had a lower partial but I had to take that out because it rubbed against an extraction site. But I haven't had any real pain but some soreness when I touch the swelling areas. I was told to take out the plate and rinse, I was nervous, but it was fine. The biggest problem was getting the goopy stuff off the roof of my mouth, yuk! putting them back it took a little bit to get them adjusted but they're in. They still feel bulky but I am told as the swelling goes down they will fit better.... if they don't I will have my butt back in the office to get them fixed.
I am talking funny but I am trying.
I haven't tried to chew yet because of the partial not being in but I haven't been a bigger eater in years. So healthy smoothies it is for me.
Any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'm a big reader so reading out loud really helped me learn how to talk again. Lol. Also days 3 to 5 were the worst for me and a lot of others on here too due to swelling so b sure to ice ice from even now. Holding ice in mouth between cheeks really helps and feels so good too. Ice on face to. Also salt water rinsed several times a day. I'm so glad ur doing ok and if u need to talk or anything we r here. This site is amazing!!!! So happy for u!!

Thank you Melanie. I've started doing the salt water rinses and used ice yesterday. I have read other people's experience as well and wonder why days 3-5 seem worse than the first two days. Since I have been luckily with no real pain I started taking motrin to help with the swelling. I guess days 3-5 will be what it is, hopefully not too bad (fingers-crossed).

I joked and said I looked like a Dr Seuss character days 3 to 5. Lol. Idk why that's the worst either.

Lol that is how I felt yesterday after the extractions my lips couldn't even close. Were you swollen after too? Did it go down and then come back up?

Oh I see. Mine seems to be less swollen than yesterday. I mean I couldn't even close my mouth but now I can even kind of press my lips together.

Sounds like you've got the Day 2 calm before the storm that I ran into.  I was up, moving and thinking I was good until Day 3 hit and then WHAM!  Couple days of relative misery and it was all downhill from there.

The "slime" was a problem for me too, especially while I was still using milk in my shakes and smoothies.  Switching over to Almond or Soy milk cut down a lot on that.

I read aloud and repeated everything they said on whatever TV show I happened to be watching while I was home recovering.  Seemed to help get me over the hump with the funny talking.  3 months in and I still have the occasional lisp, usually when I'm overtired or talking faster than I should be.
