Im so sorry to keep bothering everyone ive told myself its just time and you all are going through your own problems. But i had an adjustment yestetday and my gums dont hurt the sutures are annoying but considering i had 22 removed at once i feel great. I know in a few weeks im gonna be smiling and trying to help others who are struggling but my top plate feels to thick at the back and they filed it down a very small amount but my teeth feel great in i just cant talk at all with them in and then i start gaging. I dont know what normal is now and ive been persistent in trying to retrain myself to talk but i just cant get past that spot. Is this normal or is it possible that its still to thick has anyone else ever had a problem with just the thickness. I dont know any of yall but ive prayed so much for all of us and this chapter of our lives. Thanks in advance

I’m only 9 days post extraction and not much help to you. My top feels amazing. My bottom is I’ll fitting but the powder keeps it in almost all day. I know someone will give you good advice. The people on this forum are so kind and helpful!

I just hit the 4 week mark 2 days ago and everything changed for me during week 3 and I got my first soft reline. Don't misunderstand, I'm still having some difficulty eating but I have been able to eat some things and that has been a game changer. The most helpful thing for me besides the adjustments and the soft reline has been that I discovered secure adhesive for the lower. It is really an amazing product, I thought the powder was awesome and it worked well until I tried the secure. That's when I personally felt like I could really make this work. Cushion grip works well too but just know that it is not an adhesive..it's more of a temporary soft reline if you can't get in to the dentist ...

Rebecca, as far as the upper goes I had to have mine trimmed back a little during one of my adjustments. My prostidontist was able to trim and thin it out a little and it helped ALOT... just remember a millimeter = a mile when it comes to adjustments.

Oh one last thing another product that has been a huge help is the orajel mouthwash. It works great and helps heal sore spots and also has a slight pain reliever in it as well... Can't recommend it enough.

Thank you so much im only 3 days post extraction and considering i had 22 done I feel incredible as far as pain my gums have reduced in swelling so much however i have several suiters and they were cut long to begin with so they are extremely long now that the swelling is going down. I do understand about the milli= mile in our mouths. Reading your comments and others who have made positive progress does help more than any of you know. I know it's trial and error and hopefully the end result will be worth it. I hope you continue to have positive outcomes in the future.

Are you doing any better? I noticed more room in my mouth over time. I’m 15 days out, and the top plate seems normal now. But around day 1-5 it felt impossible. I think as the swelling in your tongue goes away, it is a big difference

There is a huge mental aspect, that’s for sure. Are you using any adhesive on your pallet? Not sure if you have stitches left or not. Once they are gone, some in the gum line really helps. Unfortunately, feeling loose is gonna be par for the course with immediates. And 6 months is a long time, but you can do it. I have been using fixodent powder on my tops for a while now. I have fixodent paste on the bottom, man those are a pain, and I’m still learning. It’s a big challenge but I’m not giving up.

Well i use powder but the left side of my dentures upper n lower are terribly off. My dentist said it would take alot to fix them. Because i had them done at affordable they wont do a softline till 6wks so i ended up dropping 130 at another office for a softliner.and i dont know what dentures should look like but my dentist said she dont think there right. This has been so hard its affected my mind my marriage my children. Im a home body i don't go anywhere and i dont socialize so that really hasnt been bad i just dont even wanta go to the grocery store now because i live in a small town population like 600 and its just a friendly southern town ppl like to talk and everyone knows ya business. And nor being able to talk with my teeth and lispy without them its just grrrr but heres a pic of my plates

If the dentist doesn’t think they are made properly, then they need to remake them. Or, do you mean you saw another dentist who didn’t feel they were right? Either way, if the make and fit are bad, they should be making you new ones that are what you actually paid for.

You paid for a proper denture, not just an extraction service. If that’s all they want to supply, get your money back and find a new dentist.

I just got my bottom partial fixed, so all these days later I’m lisping. Again. I guess you gotta keep talking until your mouth and tongue start to cooperate

The mental aspect is in my opinion the hardest to overcome but, well, other than learning how to eat again LOL! what's done is done and you have a whole wonderful life ahead! Have a good talk with yourself while thinking of all the bright spots in your life that you do have, children, husband. This will all work itself out but you have to stay positive! Yeah, I know, easier said than done! sending good thoughts your way!

There are good days and bad days. I threw myself a little pity party earlier. Then figured I was wasting my day off. Got up off my butt and decided to enjoy my family. We will all get there eventually.

Charlie i stupidly but not really having a choice went to my dentist for all 22 extractions and if i had done dentures through them it was 3400.00. Sticker shock! So i went through affordable for 1300.00. And on eday my dentist put my immediates in and told me her concerns with the make of my dentures and said i Probably would not be able to wear the bottoms. I went to affordable 3 different times telling them what my dentist said they made minor adjustments and just keep saying there only temporaries. I get so frustrated with that saying because a year is a long temporary period and if they dont fit good how can i get to the next phase of this journey. But thank you all for your words of encouragement it gives me hope that this may get better. Happy Sunday

Happy Sunday. If you can live through the temp dentures, the perms will be a breeze. Soldier on! It was the night of day 14 before I could wear my bottom partial. It’s still weird, but it is much easier to eat while wearing it. I’m not exactly sure, but I think I want something other than an acrylic partial for my permanent. I think we get those mostly because change happens so rapidly in the first 6 months. After it all settles, I may opt for a chrome partial. Less bulky from what I read, but more difficult to adjust. Best to save that for when as many adjustments won’t be needed. I may try and hold out closer to a year for a permanent partial.

My end result is implants. An office about an hour from me offers an all in one dental implant package upper and lower for 4500.00. 4 upper imants 2 lower and the dentures. My baby sister is 5 years younger than me and had implants a year ago and said they were life changing. I didnt even know chrome was an option for us. I hope you get where you wanta be. I know youve probably already been told this before but thank you, you have no idea how much sharing your story has helped me and probably so many others.

I was so afraid of all this. If my story can help anyone feel better, that’s all that matters to me. Reading on this site helps me. Hopefully it can bring a little peace to others in the future.

Charlie, I guess I have what is called a chrome partial on bottom. It is metal and has clasps that hook on to existing teeth. I didn't order it that's just what it was when I went to pick up my dentures before the extractions with oral surgeon. The only aggravating thing is food getting stuck in them. But is is easy to whip them off and rinse out and pop back in. No adhesives needed. I think you will like it.

You are far from alone with the issues you are trying to deal with and find answers for.  You can have the back of the upper slowly trimmed forward to help with the gagging feel.  However, as mentioned when doing this "less can be more".  Meaning very, very small removal of upper pallet material at a time.  It takes very little to make a great improvement.  Another concern can be that if you trim too much you can cross that invisible suction line.  This is the point where you no longer have enough denture contact with the upper pallet of your mount to allow sufficient suction to hold the upper in place without the use of an adhesive.

One little secret that I found that helps with the gagging, is using your left hand, fold your thumb down into the palm of your hand.  Then close your four fingers closed around your thumb like you are making a fist.  I don't know why it works, I don't really care why it works either, but it does!!!  And for some reason this only works with the left hand.  So next time you are feeling that gag reflex being triggered by that back edge of the upper plate, just fold that left thumb into the palm and close your fingers around it.  The take a few deep breathes and relax.
