Unable to get my immediate dentures back in

4/11/18 I had 28 extractions done and immediate dentures put in, the bottoms were perfect and the tops fit but the teeth in them were too big, my dentist has offered to make me a new top set for free but during the waiting period I am stuck with these, when i went to my check up appointment 4/12/18 he told me to take the dentures out before bed and I am still unable to put them back in, I did manage to get the bottoms in for a couple of hours before I had to remove them again due to the pain but the uppers will not go at all, I am worried about the fit after not wearing them during these first few days of healing, any suggestions? Is it okay to leave them  out until I can see my dentist again on Monday? Will not wearing them for 4 days or more make it to where they wont fit at all? I have sores all over my top and bottom gums and i think that is why the dentures will not go in, the pain is unbelievable and I swore before the procedure I would not be seen without any teeth but now i realize I would rather not wear them then feel that pain. I have been doing multiple salt water rinses through out the day, taking my antibiotics and pain pills when needed though I have found i really do not need the pain meds as often as I thought I would. Thank you for any advice.

Jennifer,
I am so sorry you are dealing with this all! It's hard enough recovering from the extractions and surgery itself then to deal with denture sores on top of that! I am praying for you! As far as the Dentures go, I was told by my surgeon to make sure to only take them out at night after 24 hours after surgery. The gums do need healing time which the dentures help protect while they are healing as well as development of dry sockets and whatnot. Have you checked to see if you have dry sockets? These can be extremely painful and hurt with or without your dentures in place. I would go back today if they are open and have them check your Dentures against your molds to ensure they are accurate. At first it is very difficult to keep them in but it does get a bit easier over time. I am only on day 5 myself and had one adjustment and can tell big difference and plan on going back Monday for a top adjustment bc I can't talk where the middle Arch is too thick. But besides the sore that rubbed from day 1 on my bottom from the denture I have little to no pain from keeping them in place. Try a few hours or one hour at a time even and see if that helps. Keep the warm salt water rinses and no smoking or drinking much but water if your denture is not in place please. Hope you get better fast! Look forward to the beautiful smile to come sooner than you think.

Thank you so much for your reply, I have had a dry socket in the past and I am pretty positive i do not have that problem this time, but gums are super sore and have sores ( whitish ) spots across the tops and bottom that do not seem to be going away, they are in certain spots where the dentures sit and cause some major pain, I have read here about a product called Benzodent that i thought about going to purchase today and giving a try to get these dentures back in but if that doesnt work it looks like I may have to wait until I see my dentist on Monday, my gums and extraction sites seem to be healing nicely but I do have some major cheek swelling up to my eye almost, possible infection I am not sure I just really want this to work, its the end of the school year I am 34 mom of 8 and have many social events coming up, I have started not to cry every day like I was, I just want to be able to put them in at this point.

I am so sorry! Hopefully they can help Monday to get some better results for you! We really should not be in so much pain if they can do something about it. You know? I will be thinking of you

Hello Jennifer, I'm on day 7 and had pretty much the same thing happen to me. I have so many ulcers/sores on lower gums that the dentist told me they had to be left out to heal. I have an appt fri (its Wednesday) and pray they will fit/i can get them in and wear throughout the day. They have been out right at 48 hrs as i write this and i only have a couple white spots on gums but their getting better/healing. I have to return to work tomorrow and I'm so depressed and an emotional mess. I am so curious as to what happened when you went back to the dentist. Did they fit? I hope everything worked out for you and thank you for sharing you're story. Because of you and the other ppl on this site i still have hope. Would love to hear from you. Thank you and best of luck
