Just got new bottom dentures 5 days ago, went to the dentist day after I got them she made some adjustments. They hurt so bad I can't stand it. There are hard to take out and put back in. I took them out they hurt so bad. I see my dentist in 4 days. Will it hurt to leave them out? Also should they be in water while not in?

Hi Charlene!

Thanks for joining our forum, and congratulations on your new smile! I am sorry to hear that you have so many sore spots from your dentures. These are common for people new to dentures (though we know that doesn't make them hurt any less)! Typically, denture adjustments will relieve sore spots, so it's a good idea to see your dentist as soon as you can. Until then, try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water (and use any over-the-counter product recommended by your dentist).

To make your dentures easier to take out, be sure to rinse with warm water before you take them out. When you do not have the dentures in, it is good to keep them in water so they don't dry out.

Please let us know if you have any more questions! I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure your new smile is gorgeous!

canker sores caused by dentures won't heal if continued rubbing by denture.  must go without the dentures for several days.  no dentist told me that continued rubbing was reason for no healing.
