Hi, I'm new to this site as I just got my dentures yesterday. All of the posts I've read so far are about people who received immediate dentures. That is not my case at all. In fact, my dentist didn't even give me that option, but that's beside the point. I had all of my teeth extracted (surgically) on Sept. 25, 2010 almost a whole year ago and I just received my dentures yesterday (due to insurance reasons). I have full upper and lower dentures. Since I went almost a year without teeth I had to learn to talk and eat without any teeth at all. Now that I have dentures I have to learn how to eat and talk with them. It's been a very difficult process for me, however I have been able to manage this long. What is bothering me the most right now is the amount of pain I'm in. I'm in a ton of pain. My dentures fit perfectly (at the moment) so it's not from them fitting poorly. I think it may be because I'm not use to them yet and I'm not use to having anything on my gums. but I don't know what to do to ease the pain. If I try to chew anything it hurts 10 times worse so I'm trying to avoid that right now. However I was able to eat yogurt this morning not much a pretty good start I think. Does anyboy know a way I can ease the pain I'm in? Right now I can't wait until the next time I can take my dentures out (which will be the next time I eat). I don't want to look forward to taking them out I want to be able to keep them in all day and not have any pain or at least not as uch pain as I'm in right now! Sorry I'm rambling I'm just new to all this! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!! --Elisabeth

An update to my two-year old post:

I'm still wearing my original upper/lower dentures and LOVE them.  I learned of a soft-reline product called DenSureFit (densurefit.com) which is wonderful.  I've relined them two times so far to adjust for gum shrinkage following the original extractions.  I just followed the package instructions and voila!  Also, they're good people to work with, happy to help and inform.

BTW, Poli Grip powder keeps them securely in place. I can now eat anything!
