This is one of the ideas (google app marketplace integrating deskaway with google docs and mail etc.. ) that will stop us from using deskaway unfortunately if not provided an ETA.

Suggestion: Put into Files tab. In the "Upload a File" pop-up window, there needs to be two buttons: "upload a file" and "attach a google doc". When the "attach a google doc" button is selected, it should open a window showing google docs, or the button should be a g-doc pulldown (like in ManyMoon).

We cannot provide an ETA for the Google App integration, but we do have it planned. Thanks for the suggestions Jnrassi, we will take a look at them when we are working on the integration!

i understand that developing this integration is difficult and you arent open to give an ETA, but at least can we expect something for this year? how about 2011? it doesnt have to be a specific ETA, but a year timeframe will help us with our expectatives, i think this is the only thing that deskaway is missing, we have all our project management process on deskaway and google docs, it will be great to have one single tool, it will be a compelling argument to put more projects on deskaway and to request a bigger account.

I strongly agree. Really a rough plan would help us -the customers- in our planning and decisions.

Thanks for the updates. Yes, our plan is to get this going this year.

I would like to know how would you want to access your Google Docs within DeskAway? Would you want to see a global tab/link that says Google Docs or would you want to match up your project name with a folder name and show only those Docs within the DA project?

We will also look at jnrassi's idea about the files tab.

My opinion is that Google docs should reside in the "files" tab with each document having a Google Icon and a name for the document. I like your idea of associating a G-Doc folder with a project in DA, although I would probably want the ability to associate more than one folder with a project as some folders might be private and some might be public.

1. For files, have the ability to upload a doc to gdocs also
2. For every DA project have the ability to map to multiple folders in gDoc
3. Have a link within your project that opens up your gDoc list

So, if your team member in a DA project does not have any gdocs shared with you (or vice versa), he/she will not see any gdocs in the list.

1 - I've not seen an app in which you can upload a file to Gdocs from the app - this would be great if achievable, then I would only have to upload one time. More common (and this works great for our needs) is the ability to link a gdoc to a project. Torch does this very well, although with the addition of permissions (which is why we have chosen DA) it would be even better.
2 - yes
3 - Yes, and allow you to select from that list to link to a DA project.
Correct - I could limit who has access to each gdoc, or perhaps each gdoc folder within DA.

I have nothing else to say apart from the need to have the ability to create an empty gdoc also from DA and not just upload a document to gdoc.

i think you have made some pretty good points, i agree with most of it, what we will need is that the files tab allows both regular documents and google docs, what i mean is that you should keep files tab as it is right now and add the option to have google docs as files and be able to access them from DA, we have some documents within our projects and our portfolio that many of our users need to update, we collaborate on the same excel or word file many times, right now we are doing this via google docs, because that way we dont have to keep downloading and uploading files.

the main idea is that we will like to have google docs link to DA Projects as files so according to your feedback i will say:

1. if you can achieved this, it will be great, we really could use this
2. yes, map to different folders and/or files.
3. yes, if you can open up a google doc from deskaway without having to enter on a different website where you will have to login again. you will have achieved my original request to use deskaway and google docs as a single system.

This would be really great. Personally I'd see it under docs, not under files, since it's called Google Docs and not Google Files.
Google Docs integration have been achieve by various PM software :
manymoon is one of them (www.manymoon.com) but I switched from Manymoon to Deskaway for a good reason : their interface suck.

I agree with your docs vs files comment; however, now that Google docs allows any file type to be uploaded this could get messy - we may start using G-docs for general file storage in the future. What Box.net does is allows users to launch a G-doc from within the program - this is handy and would fit well in the docs section of Deskaway. On the other hand, we may have PDFs stored in G-Docs that we want to share with with a project team, but without having to upload and store in Deskaway. This is what Torch does extremely well, but Like Manymoon, their interface also sucks.

Update - We integrated with Google Apps last week. If you are using Google Apps you should integrate your Apps account with your existing DeskAway account - will allow you a fabulous single sign-on experience.

See http://www.deskaway.com/blog/2010/08/...
