dipity changing event dates?

  • Problem
  • Updated 3 years ago
i entered an event for the year 450. when dipity added the event to my timeline, suddenly it has a year of 449. while its not a major issue as the date is only an approximate anyway it still makes me wonder why this has occurred and so i thought i should let you know that it has occurred.

timeline in question is http://www.dipity.com/user/darthranma...

this problem is contining to appear. 440 has become 439 and 450 has become 449. when i edited the event for the year 349 to add a link to the event, upon saving the event i noticed that the date had again changed, this time the year 348... is this a bug with the ancient dates or is there something else going on?... in order to avoid this problem i have taken to adding an additional date to the year knowing that a year will be subtracted when i save the event. thus, in order to reach year 350 i enter it as year 351. its kind of silly, but it works.

I've noticed this same problem every time I edit my posts the year goes back a year. This is extremely annoying. I'm working on a time line for class and obviously I would be docked points for inaccurate dates.

This problem only occurs with dates before and including 1582. 1583 remains the same, but 1582 becomes 1581 and so on.

It seems for me to be 9 days out in 1485- I want to make a Tudor timeline and I have to enter 22nd August 1485 as 31st August 1485 for the correct (former) date to display!

This is still happening to me too as of today (Sept 11, 2008). Dates prior to 111 cannot be entered at all (110 changes to 2010, and so forth). Years from 111-300 work fine. Entering 301-1582 results in 1 being subtracted. And 1583 to the present all seem to be fine.

This is happening to me with more recent dates in my personal chronology. A date range of May 12-16, 2008 was changed to May 13. The descriptive date Summer 2008 was changed to Nov. 1, 2007.

I have a similar problem to yours. The dates in the rss I send to the timeline are differents than the dates the timeline shows. At first I thought there were two equals posts with different dates on my blog but It wasn't.
I don't understand why it happens.
Someone could help me?
Thank you very much

This is still an issue! Was just putting in some dates and they all changed around by at least a week. A couple of them have changed by years. This is obviously still an issue, would be great if there were some Dipity staff around to help...

Hey Georgia,

This bug just returned in the last few days. We're looking into it today. Did your events revert to 1969 by any chance?

Could you send me a link to your timeline. THe more instances we can look at the easier it will be to figure out the problem!

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,
None of them returned to 1969... just that every date differed by a few days. When you're doing birthdays and things it's not the easiest - good to know that someone's looking into it, though!
I did set a date for 1998 and it kept changing to 2998 if that's any use.
Timeline is http://www.dipity.com/georgiacbsmith/...
Thanks

Dates are still changing when you enter them in. I added an event in 1804, and it revered to 1969 several times. I also added a date in 105 AD and it posted as 2005 AD. I assigned my class Dipity Timelines and they are all writing me, experiencing this same problem, frustrated. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

Hey Guys,

This is a known problem at this point and we are working on a fix. For the time being, I would suggest entering specific dates, i.e. October 24, 1804, instead of just the year 1804. That should keep the event in place. I know it's not an ideal solution but its the best we can do for now.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

This does not keep it from reverting to 1969 either. It will simply go to i.e. October 24, 1969 if I had entered October 24, 1524

Really wanted to use Dipity but the dates keep jumping around for me too. And I can't use the prescribed fix as I'm working on a project that uses years only--the exact dates are not feasible to pin down. I've experienced the 1969 problem frequently and just can't rely on the service given its instability.

I have specific dates entered for every item on the timeline and ALL of them visibly jump to Dec. 31, 1969 after loading. This is what we call "not ready for prime time." A shame. It seemed like such a promising service at first but now I'll be looking for anything else to replace it.

Seriously??? No response from Dipity after all of these people are telling you that you have a major issue? Looks like Tiki Toki is going to get more business. That's sad...and not good business.

My events are changing to 1969. I can go in and edit them, but they AGAIN revert to 1969. Please help! I talked my family-history client into Dipity, and the client is perturbed, thus I am anxious to get this fixed.
