The importance of Mock Drafting

In this first article I simply want to stress the importance of Mock Drafting!! Do not overlook just how valuable an asset this can become Draft Day. In fact, I believe that Mock Drafts are one of the best ways to prepare for any draft and I would never even consider jumping into a Money League without having done several first.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with the old board game perfection? It had like 20 pieces of various shapes and sizes and a board you inserted them into. Now the obvious object of the game was to insert all the correct pieces in the right place before the time expired. (Sound Familiar?) Now, the first time you tried this you did not do well because you were NOT familiar with the board or pieces and how they fit.  Each time after though, as you become more familiar with the Pieces and board, your scores dramatically improved.

Drafts are no different! Mock Drafts suit the same purpose!!
Not only do they get you used to the Draft room and site, but most importantly, they get you used to where players will go on said site so you know exactly who to target and where. This allows you to get the most value out of every pick.

Never walk blindly into a draft room!! ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS MONEY ON THE LINE!! If you want to play with the big boys you need to do your homework and put in the time, just like they do!! I do not care if you had a list prior to draft of exactly where every player will finish at years end, you still have to know where to take these guys and who will be going where in order to put the right combination together to win. The ONLY way to do that is by Mock Draft after Mock Draft!

You cannot trust ADPs. Every site is different and so are player values. There could be a full 2 rounds difference from one site to another, and you need to know who those players are in order to make the picks pay.

This pertains to the Daily Sites as well. Just don't jump into a $20 Snake your first Draft of the week. Do at least one cheap contest to test the player values that week.

When it comes to Drafting always think Boy Scout Motto!! "Always be prepared!"

Apps are a great tool and will dramatically improve your drafts!

If you have purchased one of our many packages which include ESPN integration, you will be able to import and Live Sync with ESPN's Mock Draft rooms. This an invaluable asset when getting ready for your drafts. You can just sit back and allow the APP to update the picks as they are selected in the draft room. This allows you to prepare and test the various settings and draft slots learning the ins and outs of what is happening so you are not caught off guard come draft day.

If ESPN was not included in your current package, I highly recommend that you purchase the upgrade. It is only $5 and will help you tremendously. http://draftanalyzer.com/Buy

As I mentioned earlier, all sites are different. The ADP's, the Draft rooms, where players go, scoring, rosters, etc.

When using an APP, little changes for you. This ensures that you are never caught off guard by out of place players or various roster types because the APP will not allow it. The APP remains the same no matter what site. Nothing changes for you.

Please do not wait until the last minute to open and set up your APP!

To all you players that use software to assist you, please do not be the guy that waits until 10 minutes before his draft starts to even open it. If you spent the money on it at least put in some time to learn how to properly use it properly. Don't think you are going to spend $50 on a program, open it, and 10 minutes later it is going to win you thousands. You need to spend the time and learn how to manipulate the data to produce the best results! Again, the only way to do that is through Mock, after Mock, after Mock. Learn the ins and outs of the app. By the time you enter your actual draft room you should pretty much know about 80% of the roster you will get or target and where to do so. You should have a general idea of the various rosters produced in the various slots of the draft. Nothing should come as a surprise because you have done the work and planned well.

Finish the full mock!

It is true that you need to nail your first picks but no one can nail them all. That is where drafting depth comes into play.

I am a firm believer that depth is what wins leagues. All teams will suffer injury or busts. It is those who have drafted solid that will see the playoffs. You need to know where your late and mid round targets are going to assure you roster them. Far too many leave drafts after the first few rounds. There is no point then. If you do not know who is going in the first 3 you need to study far more. It is rounds 5 to 10 that will win your leagues.
