What are the charges for a name change on the booking??

A couple of our friends booked their flights with Easyjet and now it turns out they cannot make it so they offered the tickets to us. We found out that the name changes will cost us £22.50 pp each way but then were told that a difference in fare would be added to the charges (over £200!!!). It's such a shame that now due to some ridiculous charges, we'll waste over £400 as already booked hotel. What could have been a fantastic weekend, turned out to be a nightmare! And... Easyjet will sell those seats anyway or maybe I should say double-sell!

  • Our policy is in-line with most airlines. We do not re-sell any seats on flights as they are still allocated to your friends. Much of the principals around name change fees is to stop people buying up lots of seats and reselling them and this policy ensures that all of our customers can take advantage of our low fares when they are launched.

    We understand that this might not be to the satisfaction to all of our customers but we continuously look for new ways to do this.

    if you friend is not well they could claim through their travel insurance provider.

    • booked a flight to crete with easy jet, 2 adults and 2 children. Due to unforeseen problem with the passport of one of the child, he is unable to go. Want to change the name on the booking so that his cousin can go instead easy jet is asking for more than £5oo pounds for this change. It is cheaper to buy another return ticket (£400 plus)

      I'm sorry to hear that one passenger won't be able to travel as planned.

      The name change fee is both the admin fee (per passenger per flight) and the difference in the price seat, as we treat this as introducing to the booking a completely new person. This person has to cover difference between the original fare paid by the initial passenger and the current fare available at the time the change is made.

      I admit that it is sometimes less expensive to purchase a completely new booking for a new passenger (no Name Change fees), especially if the flight fare was and still is sold at quite a good price.

    If you have mistyped the name of a passenger is amended free off charge, if the name are totally different a name change is applied. If you would like to send the details to paul@easyjet.com, we can look into it.

    I bought 11 seats to fly out on a stag-doo, they were priced at £97 and unfortunately one person cannot make it, I went to change the name on the flight and was told it will cost £243. When I first rang up before booking the flights I mentioned that I was concerned that I may have to change one of the names and didnt want to incur a big fee, I was told that it wouldnt be a problem and that if I rang back before I checked in they would 'just change the name for free'. When I spoke to customer services today they told me that they had no record that I had ever phoned them. When I enquired about a refund they said they can give me £14 for every flight. As I havent had the service yet surely a full refund for the one seat should be possible.

  • Tickets are non-refundable after 24 hours. The £14 refund you were offered is the airport tax which can always be refunded.
