Ebay Mobile is Useless - Give back classic view - NOW!!!!!!

We have been switched to EBay Mobile and it does not work. We want Classic View Back - how are we supposed to get help when there is no one to talk to regarding fixing this - are we supposed to just keep posting on here and hope that someone pays attention? This is POOR Customer Relations.

    We created a new Mobile Web version of eBay (streamlined, easier to use and fits on the screen of your chosen smartphone).

    When someone launches the browser on their iPhone (in this scenario) and types in eBay.com they will be auto directed to mobileweb.ebay.com. They can still go back to the familiar eBay.com page, just scroll to the bottom right-hand corner and tap eBay.com. You will then be directed back to the regular site. You will need to do this every time you launch your browser to access eBay as the redirect will continue.

    Here is an image outlining where you can choose eBay.com to go to the regular eBay site.


    There are many benefits to Mobile Web.

    Mobile Web streamlines eBay for your phone for faster performance. We will continue to work on enhancing Mobile Web to meet more of your buying and selling needs. This is the first launch.

    • Can a squeaky wheel get some grease ?

      I read a post from another member regarding the recent nag messages that are popping up over and over again on iPads stating "Switch to mobile site"

      I like the many others ( and I mean MANY ) do not like the mobile site and am frustrated that the nag message will not go away. It can be cleared by choosing to close it, but upon the next page transition it returns.

      The suggestion the other member made was to keep telling eBay what you think, by using the link at the bottom of any page, labeled "Tell us what you think"

      Others have tried telling eBay what they think by use of forums, however it seems eBay does not understand.

      Maybe, just like their nag message .... they need constant reminders.

      I like the other members will continuously keep making entries in the "Tell us what you think" feedback area, up to and including creating a script to automate the process so my fingers don't get sore.

      Please join in mass feedback on this issue.

    • Hello to all. I thought I had this same Ebay Mobile problem as I never installed the program. I only clicked on the link and for 30 days I kept having my Ebay page redirect to the Mobile Home Page. I was frustrated too. Then I said wait a minute, I haven't installed anything on my Tablet. So I went to Google Play Store & clicked on the Free download for Ebay Mobile. After downloading in 20 seconds & opening the program, I signed in & the Mobile site works great, awesome. So the complaints are technically not 100% valid as people have not really downloaded & installed the Mobile application. I think all they did was click on a link to Mobile & it takes them to the Ebay Mobile Home Page. So Android people, you must actually install the free Ebay Mobile app. Once you do, you will see that it is AWESOME!!! Ebay needs to give more clarity on what to do or get rid of that false click link. :-)

    please post a note to ebay development for their mobile apps; that the new mobile interface is horrible.
    I bought the latest Droid X smartphone (Droid X running Android 2.2.1 system version 2.3.340MB810.Verizon.en.us build #VZW) so I can surf ebay on the road.
    It was great to get full ebay pages for the first month, but now ebay has changed and I get these very small - low quality mobile pages that are horrible.
    The photos are tiny and won't enlarge.
    The photos don't line up and always run away off the page.
    the text is tiny and abbreviated.

    I get my saved searches results emailed to me every morning and they come up in crappy mobile pages. It so sucks. Leave it to ebay management approve the taking of something that works just fine and turn it into crap with their 'improvements'. I have witnessed this asinine approach to 'development' since 1998.

    I got a smartphone specifically so I could see real ebay auction ad pages, and now all I get is crappy mobile pages.

    What is the work around for that?
    AND more importantly, WHY do I have to go searching for it?
    Why isn't the OPT-OUT link right dead center in bold text font on each and every mobile page?

    Weren't real users consulted when this turd was beta-tested? Who did the app team get to beta-test it - the Trunk Monkey?

    One suggestion as a work around. Download the Dolphin browser from the app store. eBay and many other sites don't recognize the Dolphin browser as a mobile system and it lets you work around their dumbed-down mobile versions. eBay is hardly the only site that does this (ESPN, Chick-Fil-A, and more) and having the alternate browser handy as a work around is a great option.

    I agree... my Samsung Epic can view any other website just fine in the normal viewing mode. I do TONS of business through ebay, am a Power Seller, and a Top Rated seller. Is it really so hard to offer a choice for people who aren't just browsing ebay?

  • You can choose to opt-out and go back to the full eBay site view vs. the mobile web version of eBay.com. Just tap the "eBay.com" in the bottom right-hand of your screen and you'll be redirected.
    • Yeah except it reverts everytime and it seems either a cookie is set, or the minimoblie page is cached and keeps showing the crappy minipages... over & over & over.

      It becomes a labor intensive multiple step process to clear cache, delete cookies, and open a 2nd browser window, hold the 2nd window open, create a new window, go back and reopen email program, relocate the ebay results email, and then open the item i wanted to see,

      'Thanks so much for taking something so simple as a one-click link, and converting it into a pain in the ass waste of 4 minutes of my time all the while making me jump through multiple levels of smartphone settings pages - all so i can click a link and open a webpage (ebay auction item) the way I can do it at home on the PC.

      "Hey, lets improve the wheel but putting square corners on it.
      Think of the benefits!
      They can stack better.

      And the ebay Dev. team rejoiced. Their jobs were safe for another QTR.
      Ebay management was please because of the savings in peanut expenses.

      it was only the little people in the real world who were dismayed at the latest in a long line of ebay 'improvements'. It was their little voices crying out in the wilderness saying... :WTF??? a SQUARE WHEEL?"

    Ebay mobile is ridiculously useless.

    You can add new features without removing all the useful ones.

    I would love an ebay option formatted for mobile devices, but no matter how you look at it, ebay mobile is a terrible, terrible design.

    If the solution to your mobile web is to "opt-out" it is a failure, and no amount of marketing can change that.

    It could be the pets.com of the mobile browsing world.

  • My G2 android suddenly is having the same problem. The classic site was working fine until a few days ago. Now when I select an item to bid on (I spent 1300 dollars last week alone) I get redirected back to the mobile site main menue, not even the item. So I've stopped buying alltogether. This is costing me money and I CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION! Aaaaaaaaahhhh!

    Anyone know what happened? Any solutions?

  • I am having the same problem as PUMSOB. I am using a Motorola Xoom. I can search for an item and get the listings, but when I click on a particular item I get redirected to the eBay mobile page, not the details of the item. Once every ten tries I get through. I called tech support and was told how to email my issue, but there I can't send an email because it wants me to list a user I am reporting... Dolphin Browser set to desktop works, but I hate that browser... Hopefully eBay tech can fix this!

    it is insanely stupid to not give customers what they want.

    What they (the customers) want is for you (ebay) to give them what they want - whatever that may be.

    If they want to spend a chunk of $$$ on a smartphone, and if they want to spend a chunk of $$$ each month on bandwidth to DL pages and have a mobile HTML experience, for Christ's sake WTF are your bosses at ebay so stupid as to say;

    "ohh no, we don't want to give them what THEY want - even if they are paying high dollar for it.. Oh no, WE shall decide. And We at ebay have decided to give them a crappy minimobileweb experience. Yes we like that. MMMMMMmmmm yeeah, give them a crappy experience, and force it on them. Make it very difficult to figure out a way around it... Yes, We like that at ebay >insert evil laff< Lets show the minions of little people, both tech savvy. and the blue-hairs both that we are so big that we don't care what they want".

    Mr. Burns & Smithers can certainly learn a trick or two from the folks who run ebay.

    Seems I forget whose name is attached to the razor of: only 30% of people complain out loud, and of that number, only 3 percent actually do anything about it like write in to complain... and of them, only .03 percent comeback to follow up on a complaint... so it seems that from the multiple websites, and the multiple topic threads that there are far more pissed off people out there.

  • LOL...I think ebay wants to earn less fees......they direct you back to 'contact us' and as you know, chasing the wind is impossible, right? RIGHT! So we are stuck with what they want and not want we need. They have forgotten where their money came from in the first place! Are they discouraging business on ebay? I think so.... because if there are less sellers (less fees will be received), there will be less buyers. If there are less buyers, less revenue will be received....must I go on?

    I understand that you want your own choice to be implemented and not the company's preference on the way it should be set up. But you should understand that we are doing this just to make sure your account is secured. Phones may have different security than your computer and we are trying to make sure that we are doing the right thing. We really can't allow some features be viewed from your iphone. I'll just forward your request to our Technical Support Team to have it checked if it's feasible to our environment.

    This problem has been getting worse over the past weeks. All of my work arounds work only temporarily until the servers have a chance to track my session down and hijack it because it comes from a mobile phone. Ebay wants to hurd everyone into their mobile pages so they can bomb you with adds for auctions from their pet sellers. Same reason that the default search sort was set to "Best Match". Like they know what I'm looking for better than I do. Arrogance rampant. Does anyone know the email or twitter of Steve Yankovich. He seems to be the architect of this mobile crap. Maybe we can get his attention.

  • I’m always amazed how ebay sets low standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.
    it's about cost savings. like the story of the airlines that stopped serving 2 olives and only served one olive in the martini's in 1st class.... saved the co $15.000 a year (or some such)

    so here is ebay sending little tiny crappy pictures and low tech pages... tiny little files... instead of BIG PICS and html heavy files... and they use 1/10 of a cent less electricity.... times that by millions of views and they saved their $15,000 a year doing it

    exactly the opposite of what is taught by CO motivation speakers like they employ at Mercedes Benz etc..

    This is why ebay sucks. They have no regard for customer service and what customers want. Only thing that matters is the bottom line TODAY. No one deep down truly cares about how bad service will effect next year's bottom line.

    * the pickle refers to a restaurant dish being served without the sliced dill pickle... not including it would save the co a few cents each time... on the other hand, the good will generated by giving customers what they want, and even better, more than they expect, is worth more to a company than the few cents they save by not giving the pickle on the side

    ebay doesn't get that truth, never has since that b*otch meg whitman assumed power.

I CANNOT PAY FOR ANYTHING IN THIS USELESS MOBILE GARBAGE APP!!!! It says to go to eBay.com to pay through 3rd party checkout but the DAMN LINK DOESN'T WORK!!!!     I am sick of this b s with Ebay. I have called the customer contact center as others have, S.S.D.D. I am tired of trying to communicate with OUTSOURCED CUSTOMER REPS in India,who nothing more than place holders. I can not believe a company would willing choose to drive away business, but Ebay has continued to demonstrate that is their intent whether it is due to band width or egregious programmers who drop in bad code time after time, with no test for viability. I would have been fired on the spot. Gone.

    I do not intend to up my droid phone, I love it. And because I can no longer participate in the market place of Ebay and choose not to find another browser to back door my way in to be able to view,bid,save, and pay for items. I have decided to dump all of my saved searches, created lists and go to other sites that accept my money and my phone with full fuctionality. Ebay,I,too hate you! And, I know you could care less; you have told mobile users so numerous,numerous times.

    Upgraded and now cannot login. Says login invalid. When I go to Safari and access ebay that way then I get in fine. So not a userid nor password issue. Uninstalled and re-installed but same issue. Uninstalled then installed for iphone, was able to login without issue. Tried again wiith ebay for ipad and again failed. Removing all ebay apps, completing open auctions and will not utilize again until the bugs are out! I have encountered an issue with EVERY app upgrade and losing features with some. Enough is enough! Do you people not have testers to review before implementation! If you do then are they falsifying their results because they are doing a crappy job!

    I am having a problem with location setting using ebay mobile app on my iphone5. I am located in the USA and my account is registered in the USA. I've just made 2 new purchases last week from my non-mobile account and I'm waiting for my packages. I qualified for free shipping and shipping rates are correct. However, when using the mobile ebay app, it says I'm in Singapore even though checking the account, it shows me correctly in the USA. Also, tracking the two items I had purchased using the mobile app still says 'Does not ship to Singapore' How weird is that?! When I search for stuff it shows me as in Singapore and there is no option to change it. I've gone into search preferences and it still does not allow me to change my location from Singapore to the USA. In fact, there is no option to change it at all. Again, I repeat my current official registered address is in the USA. Now everything in searches shows up as 'does not ship to SG', LOL! This is a joke! Can someone fix this app please! It is very broken. I can't use it at all because it can't search correctly in the correct region, and it shows the wrong shipping rates. The only thing correct is the currency, its in US dollars despite it saying I'm in Singapore, LOL! I can only use it to track my packages. Pretty useless app!

      I'm not sure if you are checking your profile and search refinement options, vs actual app settings. I attaching a screenshot below of what the app settings screen looks like. If this screen is set to USA and you confirm you are only seeing Singapore as your location in searches then we'll need additional information.
    • As I mentioned above Singapore is at the 'Refine/Location'. And that seems to be controlling the shipping and search function.
