Are you going to make a ComicCon app for Android running phones soon?

I have an HTC EVO phone from Sprint. I have the Android app downloading system. Is there or will there be a Droid compatible Official Comic Con app in the hopefully NEAR future?

That's no answer. Is it being worked on or not? Or do any of you care?

A bit of information I found on developing for both devices.

"However, there are cross-platform frameworks that allow you to code once and deploy your app in more than one platform. The most popular are based on HTML/CSS/JavaScript and one of them is PhoneGap.

You can also develop for iOS and Android with Adobe technologies such as Adobe AIR (this was forbidden by Apple until recently).

And there are online services (such as Mobile Roadie) that allow you to generate cross-platform apps using a content management system.

That said, I strongly recommend to:

Learn Android and Java development if you want to specialize in mobile development.
Take advantage of the strengths of each platform when working on an iOS/Android project, instead of creating something that uses only what's common to both."

It's been a year since you were asked about an Android version of your Comic Con app... and STILL no answer? Seriously? Android devices are outselling iOS devices now. If you don't want to develop an Android specific version... or at the very least, port your iOS app to Android... I think it might be time for Comic Con International to look for a different developer.

What say you, Elemental Bits? We are now less than 4 months from Comic Con... Are you going to have anything for us before SDCC 2012, or will someone need to create a homebrew, do it yourself version of your iOS app for you?

I'm very happy to tell you Android version of the app is already in development and we plan for it to be available ahead of Comic-Con 2012.

Great. CC'12 is AFTER WC'12. Could you have it done BEFORE the con loop starts again?

Glad to hear this. Having an app for this years convention will make a world of difference. I had attempted to make a basic android app for me and my friends last year, but wasn't finished in time for the convention.

One feature request would be to include google map access into the app. If we can get a floorplan for the convention center submitted to google we would open up a strong feature.

Just imagine being able to pull up your event schedule within the app. Clicking on the event gives an option to pull up that location within google maps floorplan for the convention center.

We are now just about a month from Comic Con, and still no word on the Android app. Any idea of when we might expect it... or is it not going to be ready in time?

It's been another week... can we PLEASE get an update from you on when we can expect the Comic Con App for Android?

You are on the clock... literally:

...and ANOTHER week passes, with still no word about your Android app! You do realize that Comic Con starts 3 weeks from today... right? Are you hoping people just kind of forget that you said it would be available BEFORE the San Diego Comic Con?

We are not asking for any special features above and beyond what the iOS app has. If you are incapable of porting the Apple app to Android, I'm sure a quick web search can yield someone who could port your iOS app to Android for you. It is ridiculous that it has been a YEAR AND A HALF since you were first asked about an Android version of the Comic Con app, and you STILL don't have one!

Your lack of responsiveness and lack of updates is not helping things either. If you are unable to deliver this app prior to the SDCC as you promised, I promise you that I absolutely will be at the Comic Con feedback panel on Sunday, and will be recommending that they look for a new developer for their official app. Hopefully a developer who is a bit more interested in actually DEVELOPING an app.

Whoa, understand that this is frustrating but, I am looking at the comic con site and there is no and I mean no updates up yet. If you look at the Apple app, it is the same app from last year, nothing new. I understand that they are keeping quite but, if they don't come out with an app then someone will the following year. Who knows maybe SDCC is stating to keep it to apple IOS, would be strange to do such a thing but, here we are 3 weeks out and no information on what to expect save some small leaks on a few panels.

Thanks to everyone who has been patient. As mentioned before the Android app is in development and expected to be available for Comic-Con this year. There will also be an updated iPhone app. We're super busy prepping everything, so we sometimes miss what's going on here. Once the apps ship, we check here frequently to make sure it's working fine for everyone.

We would very much love to provide the app to you now, but we don't control when information about Comic-Con is released - we're just the app developer. Anyone who has been using the iPhone app for the last few years will know that we're usually only able to provide the app about 1-2 weeks out from the event. Even if the app were shipped today it would be empty as we've not yet been given the content.

Comic-Con is a non-profit volunteer organization which is one of the things we at Elemental Bits love about it. We're fans of the Con and have been attending for over 20 years. We're fans of the attendees too, which is why we developed the app in the first place. We love that you wan't it ASAP and we'll get it to you as soon as we can.

Thanks so much for caring...

Well... Comic Con 2012 is now less than 2 DAYS away. Is there any chance the Android app will see the light of day before it all starts... or are Android users once again SOL this year?

Sorry we couldn't post earlier, but we couldn't say anything about the new app until it was released. The Official Comic-Con App has been completely re-designed and I think you'll find it worth the download.
