"For a person with a weight of 75 kg taking a walk of 5 km, the formula looks like this:
Calorie consumption in kcal = 0.8 kcal * 75 kg * 5 km
Calorie consumption = 300 kcal "

Then why does my 5 km walking workout show ca 800 kcal?
Ok actually i automatically counted my steps and got a result of 7800 steps. My one step is ca 0.7 m long, so the distance is ca 5,5 km.
It can't be much more than 300 kcal (since i'm about the same weight as the person in your example).

Why is my endomondo workout information lying to me?

• Although calculation seems to have improved in some areas, I still have problems with the hiking.., I hike a fair bit, and there are certain local routes I know very well. I wonder why that when I do the same track, the same distance but in different times why the variation in calories burned is so large? When I go the same distance, same route but faster I would assume I used more calories, but the hiking mode actually reduces the calories burned when I am in fact putting more effort in to the same distance. I would think that the amount burned would at least be the same, instead of significantly less...???

• I’m mega fucking frustrated
Just add the goddamn possibility of changing the calories and all will be well. I dont thing endo can predict how many calories i will burn. I have a very expensive sporttester for that. Make the change!!!!!!!!

• I just joined Endomondo a couple of weeks ago for the National Bike Challenge and was wondering if the only way the calories burned is updated to a profile is through a smart phone app. I don't have a smart phone and just enter my rides/miles by good old-fashiioned laptop. That seems to be the only info I can manually enter for workouts. My calories burned on my profile is always zero. I only care because some challenges seem calorie based and I don't want to waste my time entering them if I can't show calories burned without a smart phone app. None of the previous comments seem to address this issue.
• Hi Lyd, you must fill out, your weight to your profile, and then the calories will be calculated. The new workout will be calculated automatically, and for the old you must click, edit, change sport, they will be calculated and then return the correct sport. Had the same problem :)
• Yep, for some reason mine doesn't calculate even though I entered my height and weight when I signed up. It calculated my BMI for me. No big deal really. Thanks for the help though Ondrej.

• The calorie calculation is pretty high.

Just did the Copenhagen Marathon last weekend, by mistake i did not remove the 'update calorie' check when editing the distance.

The endomondo calculation of calories, was 4500 Kcal, my Garmin 405CX puls watch, calculated 3138 kcal.

That sure is a BIG difference.

p.s. save the default selection of the checkbox in a cookie, or better on our profile, annoying have to deselect it every time.

Come on Endoemployees, what are you doing? Over 1000 kcal for 1h 15m at the gym? Yeah sure, I would like to beat Ferdinand as much as the next guy, but this is just ridiculous. Make it easy for yourselves, take your formula and add a /3 at the end, then it's atleast somewhat related to the real world.

• I’m burning too much calories
Whilst I burned approximateý 600 calories for 24 km (bike transport) since the last 2 years, Í am burning now beteween 1000 and 1200 calories. 600 is realistic but 1000 is quite too much. I hope that the endomondo team is going to correct this.

My calorie burn on my daily bike commute (22,4km) went from 850 to 500. Sounds pretty accurate to me, i like it! Thank you!

• Since the last update on my droid my calorie expenditure has doubled for the same route/time

http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/612... - June 5th - 706 calories

http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/651... - today - 1202 calories

I have updated my weight in endomondo but I have lost a few kg which should (I thought) lower the total

• Want to thank the Endomondo team for improving the calorie-calculation formula on the website. Two questions:
1. Has the new formula been implemented yet on mobiles?
2. Does the new formula take heart rate into account?
Thanks!
