Could it be possible to edit the track of a workout on the map?

The tracked route of my workout seems to be wrong, how can I edit it?

  • At the moment we don't have a feature to edit the workout map. But there is a workaround as you can edit a route, so you can save a workout as a route and edit the route. See how to do it below.

    1) Access the workout in question and click 'To Route' on the right-hand side
    of the map.
    2) Name the route and click 'Save' (thus you mark it as a route). We
recommend to save it as 'Private' so it is easier to find later on.
    3) Click 'Edit' underneath the map (make sure you are on the Route, not the Workout).
    4) Adjust the track points using the instructions on the right-hand side and click 'Save'.
    5) Access 'Workouts' then 'New Workout' and choose 'Select route for new workout'
    6) Select the route you just corrected and click 'Next' on the right-hand side.
    7) Enter the title (optional), start time and duration and click 'Save'.

    • I think the only good way is to export to kml or other, edit that kml (or other) either with a track editor (you can actually do it in google maps ;-) ), or a simple text editor. The most common problems I have with tracks is the start and end. And in the current situation, the existing workouts with GPS errors which are included in the stats (speeds like 2200km/h for biking, no existing bike would be able to withstand the air pressure...)
    • I did it with GPX Editor: (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpxed...)
      1. Export the workout in GPX FOrmat.
      2. Open with GPX Editor.
      3. Edit the workout and Save the file.
      4. Import the workout in ENDOMONDO.

Edition process is not as easy as I expected, but with some patience you can do it.

Hi, can tracked workouts be edited on the map? i ask this question as after my cycle commute, i forgot to end the workout on my iphone and jumped into my van and drove a further 40km, tracking all the way. i wanted to edit the route to show just my cycle commute. I rate endomondo highly over other tracking apps but the ability to edit the route or add sections that may be missed due to battery failiure on the tracking device, would put it out of reach of all the other apps.

    Cheers

So effectively you need to save the track you want to modify to 'ROUTES' then edit as a 'ROUTE' then create a new workout then find the route you've edited earlier, re-enter all the details, not forgetting to delete the original workout... why make it simple hey !?

@bglerant - you are right that this is not the most simple solution. But this is a workaround solution, as is already possible to edit routes and not workouts, until we have time to make the features so you can edit the workout route directly on the workout.

@Dale - everything should be working. When you click To Route you should get a pop-up box which lets you specify the sport and route type. But you need to make sure the workout has some track points we can save as a route - e.g. you cannot do it for sports that have not been tracked.

I had the same problem and I simply created a new workout by drawing the route I had taken. My route was in the city so it was pretty easy to draw since it was all straight lines, but it might be more difficult to draw the route entirely depending on your ride. Then I copied the start time and running time from my original workout to the new one, and deleted the one with the wrong route.

Not also the best approach, but it's another way to do it if you can't make it work by saving it to a route.

I am having sort of the same problem. I prefer watching my workouts in Endo instead of Garmin because of your good graphics and motivating statistics :)

I do some triathlons and have some trouble using my Garmin watch correctly for multisport because it is difficult to do the split times in practise. So I upload a total route with all split times and heart rates and a wrong sport. I use the same workout as basis for three workouts and correct the sport, the distance and the duration for each workout. I end up with almost correct workouts for swimming, cycling and running but my personal bests go crazy.

As motorvogel says you can keep it as one route and correct the last part of the route on a workout. This means that I could shorten the route for my swimming workout but not for the others.

It would be so nice if I could edit the total workout and split it up in sports by marking the start and end points of different disciplines. We want to keep not just the routes but all the split times and heart rates. It is not as satisfying just entering the routes manually.

This is relevant for triathletes but also for other multisports.
When do you thing this feature will be possible?

@motovogel and Vibeke, you can move around on the points when in edit mode (just click and grab the dots), but you can only add new points or delete points at the end of the route.
Vibeke - for triathlon I will recommend making three workouts and tracking it as three different sports, as we cannot handle multiple sports in one workout, sorry.

  • Thanks for your answer, Ture, but this is not a solution if you want to keep the lap times and the heart rates during the workout. If I use the original route as basis for three different workouts, as I said I can correct the sport, the time and the the distance. This makes the average speed and the calories correct but leaves i.e. the max, speed and eventually spoils your personal rekords.

  • I’m undecided
I've had good results by exporting a .tcx file that I then upload to another site to edit the route. As I've been testing several different applications/web sites lately to see what will work best for me, I've found that each has strengths and weaknesses. Editing of workouts and routes is a strength on MapMyRide.com but I much prefer the stats here on EM. It seems that until I find one that does it all (or get tired of looking), I will probably use whatever app is stable on my phone (MMR's app always locks up my phone mid-ride) and export/import to the others as needed.

the steps you are teaching us are way to heavy and it should be unnecessary!

    arent u agree?

    As others.... frustrated! :(
The GPS dropped out for part of a marathon I did yesterday - so I've just got a straight line connecting where it dropped out to where it came back. Says I only did 25 miles!
Being able to edit the workout would be a hugely useful addition, and the workaround of saving it as a route to edit just doesn't work in this situation because you can't tweak the middle of the route - I'll have to start over :(

Although I have stopped using Endomondo some time ago, I keep receiving updates for the posts on this thread.
For me, the 'delayed start' feature (can't exactly remember what it's called) was a 'must have' and I was thinking of paying some hard earned cash for the 'full' version. That was until I realised the messing about involved for the routes editing,
As it is, judging by the lack of interest, it's obvious that the guys at Endomondo are happy to cash-in but unwilling to 'pull their finger out'... never mind !
My first application of this type was Runkeeper and guess what... it's the one I'm still using (there are others !). It's not perfect and the route editing is sometimes a bit sluggish depending on what browser your use but it does the job... and in a straightforward way !

  • It's a bit hard to say that the Endo guys are cashing in and not responding to users, as they have already implemented the most requested feature on this forum. But I take your point in other ways.

RunKeeper is one of the best, so is Endo, so is Garmin Connect, so is Sports Tracker, so are the MapMy group. But they all have strengths and weaknesses and you have to choose the one that suits you best. If routes and editing them is a key feature for you, you'd not choose Endo, I accept that. But there are other features that I think are better than RK.

I started with Sports Tracker, changed to Endo, tried RK, GC, SportsTrackLive, and others, and came back to Endo - just like you with RK.

    Cheers, Alan.

  • I think we need the possibility to cut an uploaded workout into shorter workouts. Once the workout has been cut, the shorter workouts can be changed from for instance cycling to walking or just delete the part that endomondo was still running when driving back in the car. I think it would be possible for endomondo to sugest the places for those cuts. Also, it would be possible to cut the triathlon workout in at the change.

My skating workout was captured perfectly on my Android phone, but the first half is missing in the uploaded file on the web site. Discussion above helps modify tracked points; I need to ADD untracked (or not uploaded) points. A re-upload would solve this problem. At least total distance and burned calories are correct.

This "work around" suggested 7 months ago worked but it took me 10min to figure it out. It would be a lot easier if Endomondo could just fix the programming to allow users to modify the existing workout by being able to drag the route lines where the GPS failed. It would be a lot more efficient than this whole rigermarole suggested above. Why did I purchase a product that is supposed to track my progress when I could have gone to any free site (gmap-pedometer.com is one) and drawn my own route anyway? My GPS on my BB had me starting my run 10km away from where I actually was. I understand that the GPS issue is the issue of the phone but it doesn't seem like much is occuring at Endomondo to create a better solution to this technological issue. HELP!

Today I used Endomondo for the first time and during my run Endomondo must have lost the GPS signal so a part of my trackes route is wrong.

Because of the features Endomondo is offering I was thinking about buying the Pro version, but if this workaround is still the final solution (after 7 months!!!), I will definitely not spend any money when such a basic function is missing. I mean, editing a track is already possible, so it cannot be so difficult to transfer this function to the finished workouts.

I think the problem is that Endomondo uses the workout information to determine accomplishments towards prizes. If you let people edit their results then inevitably some will use this tool to cheat.
Personally, I couldn't care less about the challenges and prizes. I just want a tool to track my rides. I'm currently evaluating other apps that might handle this situation better.

This feature is very much needed and perhaps 1 out of 100 use it for challenges and prizes, the rest of us don't care about these things, we just need to be able to correct our workouts when the GPS fails.

My GPS is not always on, so it takes a while for it to find the satelittes, which means that it won't start registering my workout for the first e.g. 500 yards, so I will almost always need to edit the workout.

I will also need to look for an alternative.

This is a major letdown... I was using runkeeper and one of the best features was the ability to edit the map... this is good because sometimes the GPS tracks some irregular routes and if we don't have a way to correct them the workout results aren't the best ones...

Regarding Endomondo used for logging challenges: How on earth can it be better that your 50 km drive by car is included in your workout, and it's not possible to remove it? It would be quite easy classify changes and have rules on what counts and what not. I would think that reducing your distance is infavourable regarding challenges, so you should be allowed. A friend of mine had a hike on sunday. In his log he ended up in the middle of the North Sea. According to Endomondo he hiked 496.68 km in two hours and 26 minutes (203.7 km/h). And Endomondo thinks this is how it should be?

I started a competition with some friends to motivate us to keep our running ambitions up. Yesterday i started a workout and chose the "beat your own time"-feature or whatever it is called.

During the run i decided to run a little bit longer, to get myself into a better position in the competition *hrrrhrrr*.

Unfortunately I didnt realize, that Endomondo really forces the track I tried to beat.
So it actually takes the running time, the gps signals and all the stuff around and says "you ran 5,4km, not 6,5km... I was pretty sad, as the effort I put into the workout was not "rewarded" the I wanted to see it.

I just used this workaround to correct the route, but all the values, like kmh and averages are gone, of course.

So pls add the "Edit Workout" function!

But I dont want to be the one who is just complaining! Great App, really helps me keeping it up!

    Best Regards
    Alexander

    I have one problem.
2 days ago I have run the halfmaraton in Poznan with Endomondo,

    Can I edit this track?

    • The quick answer would be: no, you can't. Well, not directly on Endomondo.
A more articulated one: if you don't mind losing your timings (and I think you do), you can convert your run in a route, edit it, and then reimport it as a workout. Or, you can track down the timestamp of your arrival, export the workout as a GPX file, open it with a texteditor (such as Notepad on Windows or Textedit on OS X), find the tag corresponding to the time and place of your arrival, and delete all the following positions.
Or, finally, you might just create an account on Runkeeper, export the GPX, import it there, use their edit feature (because you know, THEY have one), export it and re-import it on Endomondo.

    Edit map would be nice.

It happens to me more often than I care to admit that I forget to hit "stop" on my blackberry after a long run or ride, and get an extra 6 hours of dead time, or a lovely car trip included in the workout.

To date I've just been deleting the workout so it doesn't mess up my stats/personal bests. The ability to easily edit the workout data to fix this would be nice.

I don't care about the prizes. I'm not going to win them. I bet 90% of users don't either. I love endomondo to track my routes, chart my progress/statistics (pro!) and keep me motivated. It rocks!

People, let me state it again one last time: workouts *can* be edited in a very simple way: you export them as GPX files and you manually edit them (they are ASCII files, you can do that with any text editor, or, JUST AS AN EXAMPLE FOR ENDO GUYS, you can import them in RunKeeper and manually move your waypoints, then re-export and re-import in endomondo).

There is no way for Endomondo to catch you if you do that (unless they stop considering all imported workouts for their prizes and stuff, and I wouldn't mind if they'do that, I don't care about their prizes either), so if the reason why they don't come out with a simple, WYSIWYG, RunKeeper-like, way to do it, is that "cheating prevention" thing, well, in my humble opinion that is just plain stupid.

  • Thanks for this. I'd prefer it if the app hadn't cut out without me realising it but this is certainly a good compromise.

Yeah, I run in the city which makes for some glitchy GPS data when I get into the "urban canyons" and would really like the ability to adjust a map in a work and keep the split times and such without the manual route>new workout workaround.

this my first test to see if I want to switch from Map My Run and this is problematic for me.

Any chance this is something you're working on?

This is a nice application to edit your incorrect workout. Takes 2min to download the application, export workout, edit section of workout and re-import into Endomondo.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpxed...

It's open source software, so is free to use.

Hi, yesterday I tracked my way home, it was in history with higher length with better avg speed and today, the route is shortened for about and 1km with lover avg speed, even in phone the history changed and is same as on the web. How can this happen? Phone was stopped later before entering pub, everything was looking good, uploaded using public wifi and now cutted off? Some automatic corrections or what?

Please implement edit feature for routes!!!!!!!!
It is disaster, when you loose GPS signal during the run. Even if you follow Endomondo approach you are loosing lap times!!!! I hate that!!!!
I started to think about leaving Endomondo.

@Continiven you can export your workout as an tcx-file and open it with the software from "Sporttracks 3".
There you can edit the workout without loosing the heartrate-data usw.
After editing you have to import it in endomondo and everything is right :-)
The first times it takes a little bit, but with more experience you'll do it faster

Hi, it would be a great feature, to edit and fix wrong GPS points.

    What features could be good:

    - Simply point and delete some individual wrong points.
    - Allow to displace (with mouse) some points to their "theorically" correct location, keeping their TIME and HEART measure intact. (Thus fixing the local speed spike).

    Really nice features:

    - have a feature to Snap the points to the road.
    - Draw a thick line, and make the points snap inside this line. (Moving orthogonally to inside the line).

    Thank you.

and congratulations for this really nice program.
